More and more shoppers conduct extensive research before they make a purchase. The reasons are plentiful, everything from wanting to purchase from brands that have similar values to their own to simply wanting to get the best deal. But the fact remains that consumers are more conscious of where they spend their money these days. 

In fact, according to a study by Google , 53% of shoppers say they always do research before they buy to ensure they are making the best possible choice . 

When potential customers are doing that research a case study video can really help your, well, case ! 

Case study videos help to increase trust and can ultimately result in more sales for your business. 

So, let’s take a look at how to make a case study video in 10 steps.

A case study video is a video that focuses on real customer success stories as a way to demonstrate the value of a company’s products or services.

This is especially important when it comes to customers from younger generations. An American study from Morning Consult found that 42% of Gen Z and 30% of millennials do not trust the average American company and instead stated “ they have to earn my trust ”. 

One of the biggest benefits of creating a case study video is that it adds a level of authenticity and credibility to your brand which can increase trust among leads and help convert them into new customers.

“ People buy from people ” might be an old saying but it seems more and more relevant as we move into an era where consumers are growing tired of faceless corporations and turning to influencers that they know and trust instead.

Creating videos, especially case study videos that aren’t overly salesly, can really help you to relate to your customers and build a stronger bond that could encourage them to spend more, stay loyal, and give you positive word of mouth marketing.

Case study videos basically showcase how amazing your brand, product, or service is by proving the benefits that you’ve given to one of your happiest customers. This is a great tool for boosting sales because it gives viewers someone to identify with and makes them think “ huh, if that happened for them then maybe it can happen for me. ”

First you need to define a goal for your video. Think about what you’d like the outcome to be. Of course, the answer is probably in the realm of “increase sales” because that’s the main goal for any business, but try and drill down deeper before you get started. 

For example, consider if there is a specific hurdle you’re trying to overcome. Ask yourself what is the biggest barrier to purchase that your product or service has – perhaps it’s that people struggle to see the value upfront or maybe think your product is okay but not a necessity for them – whatever the issues may be, try to use your case study video to eliminate those doubts. 

2. Identify your target audience

In addition to identifying a goal for the video you need to identify your target audience, and keep them in mind during the early stages of development.

For example, think about the following: What motivates your target audience? What’s important to them? What do they want to know? 

By keeping the answers to these questions in mind you’ll be able to craft your video to speak directly to your target audience and increase your chances of success. 

3. Choose the right customer

This one’s important! You need to decide which one of your customers would be a perfect fit for your case study video. 

This doesn’t necessarily mean picking your happiest, most complimentary customer. Now that you have your goal and target audience in mind you need to select a customer whose journey best fits the narrative that you’re looking to create. 

Approach your customer politely with an email or a friendly chat and ask if they’d like to be in your video. And remember to make it easy for them to say yes! Let them choose a time that’s convenient, offer to cover travel expenses (if required), and to really sweeten the deal you could always give them a discount code or free gift for being such a great customer.

4. Write a script

Your script will be the roadmap for your video. Of course, you don’t have to write everything down word-for-word – that’s certainly not what case study videos are about. Case study videos should be natural and authentic, giving customers time to speak about their experience in their own words. 

However, it’s still important to have a script that will act as a rough plan to help you guide the day of shooting and create the bare bones of a narrative for your video. 

For example, you’ll probably want the customer to start by outlining their problem before they found your company. Then explain how your company helped them, and finally round off with some key benefits. 

5. Add stats where possible

When talking about the benefits that your company has brought to the case study customer, stats and figures always help. 

This is especially important if you’re in the B2B space. Solid figures that show a clear benefit will make it easier for buyers to present your case study video to their employer and say “ we need this .”

You may find that your customer has done this research themselves already – as they may have wanted to calculate the benefit. If not, it could be a good idea to invest in some research yourself as tangible figures that prove the benefit of your product or service can really elevate the video and improve your credibility with viewers. 

6. Find the perfect location

The setting of your video can make such a difference to the viewer experience, so it’s important to find the perfect place. This could be your office, your customer’s place, or a neutral location. 

The location needs to tick two boxes – it needs to match the look and feel that you want to portray in your video and it needs to be convenient for everyone to get to. 

Most great testimonial videos will usually have a couple of establishing shots in there to really set the scene, so you shouldn’t underestimate the power of a great setting. 

7. Create a shot list

When you’ve decided on a location and you have a solid script , you can start to create a shot list.

A shot list is a document that maps out each scene that you want to see in your video. Here’s a quick and rough example: 

  • Establishing shot of the building
  • B-roll of the team eating lunch together
  • To-camera interview with X person

A shot list is important because it will help your day of shooting go more efficiently. And it’s especially important if you aren’t going to be there and you’re handing over the responsibility to an external film crew.  

A shot list will make sure you get all of the shots you need for your video without forgetting anything. No one wants to forget an important shot and have to rebook the space and rearrange a date for everyone to meet again – that’s a lot of wasted time and money. 

8. Shoot your video!

The next step is of course to shoot your video! Set your cameras up, grab your script and your shot list and make sure you get everything you need. 

It’s also worth double-checking that you have everything you want on film before you leave. 

A top tip for this step of creating a case study video is to make sure your customer feels comfortable . 

The reality is, most people don’t feel comfortable having a camera pointed at them. You can help make things easier in simple ways, such as getting everything set up before they arrive. So all they have to do is sit or stand on their mark. 

Another way to make your customer feel comfortable is to break the ice first. Hit record and then talk about some normal things to calm their nerves. Maybe give them a couple of tries at introducing themselves. 

Patience is key here – if you give your customer the time they need to feel comfortable then your case study video is going to look 10x better! 

9. Edit your video

After the shoot comes the edit. If you’re new to the world of video you may be surprised at just how much of a difference editing can make. 

A great edit that cuts between different camera angles and shots, includes a fitting soundtrack, and maybe even some title slides or animations that help to emphasise certain points will really elevate your video. 

The main aim here is to edit your video in a way that will increase viewer engagement. You can work with a video company to help you create a professional edit or you could have a go at editing yourself!

Make sure you post your video in as many places as possible: Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube. The more places you post, the more views you’re likely to get.

1. wyzowl – uberflip.

We made this case study video with our great friends at Uberflip after we worked with them to create some marketing videos for their company. 

This is a relatively simple case study video that features different shots cut together while Randy (one of Uberflip’s co-founders) talks naturally about his experience with Wyzowl. 

We thought we’d include it on this list as it goes to show you don’t need lots of bells and whistles to create an authentic and engaging case study video. 

2. Google Ads – Chuckling Goat

It might be a bold statement but we’re going to say it anyway: this case study video is perfect! 

It has all of the ingredients you need to create an amazing video, from the gorgeous establishing shots at the start that drop the viewer into the world of Chuckling Goat to the light-hearted joke at the end. 

Instead of making Google Ads the focus, this video allows Chuckling Goat to tell their story before weaving Google Ads into the narrative naturally. 

The animated graphic that accompanies the growth Google Ads facilitated for the company is a great touch!  

3. Zoom – Customer Stories

Zoom showed with this fun, quickfire video that you don’t need to focus on just one customer to make a great case study video. Instead, they decided to include multiple customers. 

The result is a really cool and varied collection of benefits that Zoom has brought to different customers. 

Another nice touch is that all of the customers appear to have recorded their portion of the video using Zoom!  

4. Wyzowl – Oxford University Press

This is another case study video we created, this time with Oxford University Press. With this video, we added dynamic title screens and name cards to make the content more engaging and also easier for viewers to skip through if they want an answer to a specific question.

It’s also great that the animated video we made for Oxford University Press is featured in the case study video, along with the results that were achieved. 

5. Samsung – Superdry

This case study video is for Samsung Display Solutions so it has to look great – and it does! The opening timelapse of Norway is crystal clear and really sets the scene. 

As we get into the meat of the video, it’s great to hear what the Superdry staff have to say about the Samsung screens while we (as the viewers) get to see them in action.

6. Hubspot – Avison Young

One of the best things about this video isn’t part of the video at all. It’s in the title:

Including the impressive results of Avison Young’s partnership with HubSpot in the title encourages viewers not just to click on the video but to keep watching in order to find out how that happened. 

In addition to that, this video does a great job of laying out the customer’s initial problem before introducing HubSpot as the perfect solution.

7. Claranet – Pets at Home

This case study video, while long, manages to keep viewer attention with help from a heartwarming soundtrack and clips of various cute animals. 

The video also uses animation to emphasise the role that Claranet has played in helping Pets at Home to grow.

As you plan out your video, keep the following four stages in mind:

  • Character introduction: The central “character” of your video should be the customer whose testimonial you are featuring. Make sure they are engaging and can tell a story that will resonate with your audience. While you may also include other people in your video, there should still be one central character who is the focus.
  • Establish conflict: Your video needs to present a conflict that your business helped your customer overcome. This conflict will be the main pain point that brought your customer to your business, the problem they were looking to solve.
  • Explain the solution: The solution shows your viewers how your product or service helped solve your customer’s problem. Even though the narrative of your customer’s story should be central to your video, backing up the things they’re saying with data and statistics makes the video more compelling.
  • Provide a resolution: Once you’ve shown how you solved your customer’s problem, you need to provide a way for the viewer to take action of their own. Whether you want them to book a consultation call, fill out a form, or purchase a product, make sure your video ends with a clear call-to-action and set of next steps.

Gather Background Interviews

Now that you have the video’s arc planned out, you want to shoot a series of test background interviews with your customer.

These videos will give you a better idea of the responses you’ll get on camera when you’re actually shooting the video and can help you better define your video’s script. Additionally, these videos are a way to help familiarize your customer with the questions you’ll be asking and how they can answer those questions in a way that’s camera-friendly.

Whenever possible, conduct these background interviews in-person or over video conferencing software to get your subject used to answering questions for a camera.

  • Who are your customers?
  • Where are you located, and how long have you been in business?

The authenticity of case study videos makes it highly effective in persuading people to buy your product or service. It helps in marketing your brand to all viewers online.

An effective case study video will have the following:

  • Camera interviews of customers
  • Tells a story how a business solve a customer's problem
  • Gives statistical data to back up the customer's testimonial video
  • More emphasis on the benefits rather than the features

Careful marketing and video strategy, that are two main elements in creating a high-converting case study video. Let’s walk you through the 10 easy steps of making case study videos.

1. Put your self as the prospect customer

Create a detailed video marketing plan on how to create your videos. You have to put yourself in the shoe of your target audience . Know the things that would interest them. Know their pain points and find a way that your business can offer a solution for them.

2. List down the important questions

Write down the problems your target audience is having right now. Ask yourself how your business can make your potential customers’ life more convenient. If you can translate that into a case study video, that would be great!

3. Select the right customer

Once you’re done finalizing your video contents and scripts. The next essential step is to pick the right target market. One that would fit the message of your video testimonial.

After knowing your target audience, you need to be clear on what you want them to do at the last part of your videos. Your call-to-action must be clear and straightforward, otherwise, you’ll lose them, and effort is wasted.

4. Develop the story arc

Video contents must be effective in conveying a story. That said, your story arc must be defined properly. It must clearly lay out the details of your narrative video contents.

Doing an initial interview with your customer is a must to ensure your story telling will be smooth and cohesive. Ask questions that’ll help you know your customer and that would them prepare on the flow of questions during the final interview.

A good case study helps prospective buyers see their own potential in your customers’ success through real stories about how problems were solved or ideas were brought to life using your products or services.

Yet most case studies only scratch the surface of what happened instead of exploring how , holding them back from being valuable assets that simultaneously teach, inspire, and sell.

Concrete results like “5x more sales generated” or “40% less time spent” look nice on paper, but no one’s buying those without the story and proof to back it up.

After producing case studies for a variety of companies over the years, what’s made the biggest difference for me is developing a case study production process with all the right steps and tech in place.

What makes a compelling case study?

A case study should feel like a win to everyone invested in their creation:

  • Positive press for the customer you’re featuring
  • Demand generation content your marketing team can promote through ads, email, etc.
  • Conversation starters your sales reps can use to warm up cold leads
  • Inspiring stories your prospective customers can relate to

Case studies go a long way in B2B marketing, where trust is earned gradually over a longer buying process that involves multiple decision makers.

  • Finding the right customers to feature and stories to tell
  • Incorporating video to make it more engaging
  • Avoiding sensitive info or competitive intel without sacrificing value
  • Navigating multiple levels of approval before publishing
  • Distributing the case study once it's published

Luckily, these challenges can be overcome with the right process in place.

How to produce case studies: A step-by-step framework

1. find happy customers to feature.

Naturally, the first thing you’ll need to start producing customer stories is willing customers with stories worth sharing.

Some great sources for potential case-study candidates can include: 

  • Customer databases like Salesforce or HubSpot where all your customers are listed out with details like contact info, industry, company size, sign up date, and more
  • Nominations from customer success reps, who likely have the most context on who your happiest customers are and potential angles you can explore
  • Discounts and other incentives introduced by sales reps when a new customer signs on in exchange for participation in a case study

I recommend tracking your case study candidates in a spreadsheet that includes the following fields:

2. Schedule interviews

When you reach out to customers for an interview, remember that they’re already paying to use your products or services on top of making time for you in their busy schedules.

While some customers might be excited about the chance to be featured, others might appreciate a tangible incentive that can range from:

  • Exposure to your email list and social media followers if there’s an overlap in target audiences between your brand and the customer’s
  • An Amazon gift card
  • A donation to the charity of the customer’s choice
  • A discount or credit for your product or service

When you reach out, try to send the request from someone the customer already knows and trusts, like a coworker or the customer success manager assigned to their account.

I recommend using a scheduling tool like Calendly or Cal.com to avoid back-and-forth emails to find a time that works for both of you. For the meeting location, you can include a link to a Zoom call, Descript Rooms , or wherever you plan to host the interview. 

You can adapt the following email template to reach out to customers for an interview:

Subject: [Your Company] would love to feature your success story! Hi [Customer's Name] , I hope you’re doing well. My name is [Your Name] , and I’m [Your Position] at [Your Company] . I’m reaching out because we’ve been incredibly impressed with how you’ve been using our [product/service] to achieve [specific result or success] . We believe your story could inspire others and demonstrate the real-world benefits of our [product/service] . We would love to feature your experience in a case study on our website and marketing materials. Would you be open to a 30-minute interview to discuss your journey and the impact [product/service] has had on your business? As a token of our appreciation, we’d be happy to [incentive] , and of course, we will share the final case study with you for approval before it goes live. If you’re interested, let me know your availability or you can pick a time that works for you here: [scheduling link] .  Thanks for considering this, and we look forward to the possibility of showcasing your success! [Your Full Name, Position at Company]

3. Prepare your case study interview questions

Once you’ve scheduled your customer interview, it’s often a good practice to send over an interview outline in advance so they can prepare answers if needed.

Case study interviews typically last 45 minutes, so you don’t want them to waste time hunting for numbers or examples on the spot.

Here are some good questions to keep in mind:

  • Briefly describe your company and your role within it.
  • What was the biggest challenge you were facing as a [job title]? What was the impact of it on the business at large?  
  • What solutions did you try before discovering our product/service and why did you ultimately choose us?
  • How has our product/service addressed these challenges, changed your day-to-day work, or affected the overall business?
  • Can you share any measurable results or wins since implementing our product/service?
  • What are your favorite features of our product/service?
  • Have you received any feedback from your team or customers about our product/service?

“Who would you recommend our product/service to without any hesitation?” is a personal favorite of mine. It almost always gets an insightful and honest answer that doubles as a relatable testimonial.

During the actual interview, you don’t need to stick to the script. Sometimes the conversation reveals a better story than the one you went in expecting to tell. Let your curiosity take the lead and ask those unscripted follow-up questions to see where they take you.

In his book Stop Asking Questions , Andrew Warner, host of the popular business podcast Mixergy, says,  “The best interviews are conversations, not interrogations.”

Warner recommends getting aligned on the “Why” for both sides before you hit record—sharing what you hope to get out of the interview and also asking what your guest hopes to get out of it as well.

Sometimes your guests want to celebrate a recent win they’re proud of, promote an upcoming launch, or tell a specific story about their brand. If you can accommodate them, they’re more likely to get excited about the interview.

4. Record the interview using multitrack recording

While in-person customer interviews allow for higher quality video content, they can quickly introduce costs and complexity—especially when you can still create engaging videos from remote recordings with a bit of planning.

But even with remote interviews, a lot can go wrong depending on how you record them. 

In one of my first case study interviews, my recording software failed to capture my guest’s side of the conversation. With no audio or transcript, I had to go off my memory and notes (and a bit of lip reading) to salvage it.

But choosing the right recording method isn’t just about peace of mind—it's also about quality and flexibility.

I recommend using multitrack remote recording software like Descript that captures separate audio, video, and screen-sharing tracks locally for you and each of your guests.

Doing so, you can:

  • Guarantee the highest quality audio and video capture
  • Ensure local backup on the off-chance something goes wrong, like you lose your internet connection during the interview. 
  • Record multiple guests simultaneously while making it easier to manage cross-talk and interruptions during editing
  • Generate transcripts and label speaker with greater accuracy
  • Edit with more control, adjusting volume levels or removing background noise for individual speaker tracks

The biggest benefit: Repurposing the interview into other formats with more flexibility, speed, and polish (more on that later).

4. Generate a transcript to annotate

With your interview recorded, the next thing you’ll want to do is transcribe it to make it easier to sift through the interview to find your story.

These days, you don’t need to waste time or money on manual transcription services or suffer through DIY transcription. You can get an accurate transcript, including time codes and speaker labels, almost instantly using AI. 

If you use Descript for transcription like I do, your transcript will be synced to your audio and video file during playback and editing.

There are several benefits to this, like:

  • Leaving highlights and comments on the transcript as you go over the interview recording to make notes
  • Instantly removing filler words and repetition from the transcript and video at once
  • Using AI to find the best moments in the interview, generate a summary, even brainstorm headlines all within the transcript
  • Highlighting excerpts within the transcript to turn into clips

5. Draft your case study article

Now it's time to turn your 45-minute customer interview into a cohesive story designed for both busy skimmers and curious readers.

Most case study articles follow a similar structure:

  • TL;DR. Hook readers with a summary of success metrics and/or a compelling quote upfront.
  • Background. Quickly introduce the main characters and any essential company context.
  • Challenge. Frame the biggest problems facing the customer and identify their goals. Establish why the status quo wasn’t working and how other solutions fell short. 
  • Solution. Walk through the process of solving the problem using your product/service. Include specific tips, features used, and examples.
  • Results. Summarize the most significant outcomes from using your product. This can include both hard numbers as well as qualitative feedback.

It’s worth creating a custom page template just for customer stories, like in this example from Superside , so you can surface the bottom line up-front for busy prospects.

With a transcript of your interview and a multitrack recording, writing your case study becomes a lot easier since you can now:

  • Generate a rough draft or specific sections from the transcript with AI.
  • Turn examples or visuals your customers screenshared during the interview into screenshots or GIFs you can embed into the article.
  • Brainstorm supporting copy like headlines, meta descriptions, and more.

6. Incorporate video and other visual elements

If you captured your customer interview as a multitrack recording, you’ll have an easier time editing it into polished visual content, such as:

  • Long-form video of an edited version of the interview
  • Screenshots and GIFs illustrating how the customer uses your product 
  • Short clips sharing your customer’s expertise or endorsement, with landscape, square, or portrait variations for different channels and placements 
  • Video testimonials you can run as ads or embed on your website
  • Highlight reels that showcase multiple customer testimonials

Voice-only audiogram video can be a great way to accommodate customers who may not be comfortable on camera. 

You can create these videos in Descript from start to finish or quickly produce a rough cut you can hand off to a professional video editor. 

There are plenty of creative ways to use video to tell customer stories besides the standard talking head format, like combining animated text with screen sharing to showcase a specific feature.

6. Ask for feedback and get approval to publish

Unlock most articles on your blog, you’ll need explicit permission from the customer before you can publish.

Depending on the company’s size and industry that might include approval from its legal team or senior leadership to make sure the brand is reflected well and no sensitive information is shared.

Generally, larger enterprises or public corporations will have more layers of approval to navigate than small businesses and private companies.

To be mindful of the customer’s time and avoid unnecessary back and forth:

  • Leave comments on specific sections in the draft where you’d like their input
  • Be upfront about exactly how you plan to use the interview early on in the process—you don’t want to waste time creating video ads if the customer isn’t comfortable with it
  • Avoid details that may damage the brand reputation or give away sensitive info
  • Don’t be afraid to lightly edit quotes to keep them coherent
  • Invite the customer to suggest changes and make comments directly in the draft

7. Publish and promote your case study

Once you’ve secured permission and finally published your case study, you might be inclined to move on to the next one in your pipeline. But you’re not done with it yet. 

What’s the point of a shiny new case study if no one sees it?

Here’s how you can help your new case study get in front of the right people:

  • Send a link to the customer you interviewed in case they want to share it with their personal network
  • Let your sales team know that a new case study is up, and add it to a sales enablement library to arm sales reps if you have one
  • Share any video clips with your audience on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc. Make sure to include a link to the full case study in the caption.
  • Embed video clips with a link to the full case study on relevant pages on your website or blog.
  • Design carousel posts that summarize the customer story, which can include a mix of images and videos depending on the platform.  

Since case studies are often shared through direct messages and social media feeds, I recommend optimizing the Open Graph image and text (i.e. the preview that renders when a link is shared) to sell the story before the click.

The final product is only as good as your process

Case studies can be one of the most powerful forms of social proof in your B2B marketing mix—but only when they prioritize telling a good story that teaches and inspires just as well as it sells.

It starts with an intentional process, from sourcing customers to recording interviews to creating content, that doesn’t just make case studies easier to produce; it makes them more interesting to consume.

Case Study: Video Interpreting Reduces Cancellations, Improves Experience at Hospitals

Innovative technology that allows for 240 languages to be interpreted at the touch of a button is improving patient experience and reducing appointment cancellations at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton.

The healthcare network has added the LanguageLine app to wireless devices across its hospitals. The app allows for one-touch, on-demand access to professional interpreters in more than 240 languages, including American Sign Language and British Sign Language. Interpretation is available in video and audio-only formats. 

Despite in-person interpretation already being in place at the hospital sites, unavoidable delays for both patients and interpreters led to an increase in appointment cancellations. This prompted the Estates and Facilities team, led by Nicola Wigley, to explore new ways to offer patient-centered language and interpretation services.

As Wigley explains, the LanguageLine app provides a timely and efficient option for colleagues to use when seeing patients who do not speak English as their first language.

"We are a busy hospital, and people can often get delayed, whether that’s the interpreter or the patients,” Wigley said. “When that happens, sometimes the appointment cannot go ahead, which is really frustrating for our patients and impacts our waiting lists and patient satisfaction.

"Using this technology allows us to be responsive without having to reschedule an appointment if there is no interpreter available. By utilizing this new equipment, we can ensure we continue to deliver care to patients who speak a different language, particularly when they come through our emergency room."

A ‘Phenomenal’ Response

The rollout began with a trial in the emergency, prenatal, and endoscopy departments, and the response was “phenomenal,” Wigley said, with positive feedback from both patients and staff about the difference it made to patient experience and running services more efficiently. This success led to the order of more than 20 additional machines for use across the healthcare network.

Wigley added: "We chose to trial the machines in the Prenatal and Endoscopy outpatient areas after studying data that suggested these departments had a heavy use of interpretation services and a high number of canceled appointments.

"It means that if an interpreter has been booked for a patient and they are unable to get here, the patient is still able to have the appointment and get all of the information they need using the readily available interpreter. If a department has one of the machines, they can choose to use it instead of booking an interpreter to avoid any cancellations.

"Even very early results show that the number of canceled appointments has been reduced."

Wigley emphasized that implementing this technology allows for equity and equality for all patients who come through the doors of the hospitals within the healthcare network.

"We know that for some people, it can be scary going to the hospital,” Wigley said. “This is one of the ways to break that barrier and comfort anxious patients who might normally find it difficult to attend appointments because of a language barrier.

"The reason it has been successful and staff love it is because it is so easy to use. It is secure and is already very popular with patients, staff, and visitors.

"It's such a helpful tool. We think this technology will make a huge difference for those who require interpretation and give much-needed confidence when breaking down language barriers while visiting our hospitals."

Azure signups are extremely low funnel conversion events, typically occurring on desktop devices and involving higherpriced purchases that are primarily made by business leaders. Carat needed a way to prospect new users most closely matching Azure’s first-party retargeting audiences across multiple global markets. They chose to run a direct campaign using Modeled Audiences in Microsoft Invest to help them target the right people and expand their reach among audiences similar to their first party audiences.

The solution

Carat set up multiple Line Items in Invest that each targeted a Modeled Audience in tandem with a different market within North America, EMEA, and LATAM. Invest populated Modeled Audiences within 48 hours of the segment being requested in the UI. It was also able to support modeling multiple seed audiences that were relevant to Azure’s campaign, further expanding their retargeting segments. By additionally using splits, Carat was able to execute on their more granular goals with more sophisticated targeting.

The results

The Modeled Audiences campaign results were outstanding. In some geographic areas, CPA was reduced by an astounding 85%. Moreover, the average delivery rate was 95%, with a remarkable 100x increase in reach when Carat modeled segments were compared to the seed segment.

Seamless Giving: How Greater Good Charities leverages Fundraise Up’s platform with PayPal Complete Payments

Greater Good Charities is a global nonprofit organization that works to amplify the good in the world. They work to help people, pets, and the planet by mobilizing in response to need. 1

We spoke with both Noah Horton, Chief Operating Officer of Greater Good Charities and Salvatore Salpietro, Chief Community Officer of Fundraise Up. We discussed the importance of their partnership and how PayPal’s Complete Payments (PPCP) contributes to their shared success.

The opportunity

The relationship between a charity and their technology platform is critical. Essential to a charity’s success is a seamless experience for donors.

Greater Good Charities wanted to offer their donors payment choice and simplify recurring donations. To accomplish this, they needed a technology company with expertise, flexibility, and integration capabilities for their existing platforms.

Fundraise Up helps nonprofits make their donation process as easy as possible. Their goal for Greater Good Charities was to help improve the donation experience and increase revenue. Fundraise Up incorporated PayPal as part of their tech stack from day one and more recently, integrated PPCP.

The solution

In June 2021, Greater Good Charities implemented Fundraise Up, after having tried several other vendors over the years. Horton commented that “We finally had the tools we dreamed of with Fundraise Up, and their team has been outstanding. From both a back-end user experience standpoint and a technical implementation standpoint, Fundraise Up makes it easy,” said Horton.

According to Salpietro, “Fundraise Up offered the first on-page modal donation flow on the market to help nonprofits unleash the generosity potential of donors. Every click in the checkout experience is an opportunity for error. We must be extra sensitive that it’s frictionless in the nonprofit space. PayPal Complete Payments helps us ensure that seamless experience for donors.”

Since selecting Fundraise Up, Greater Good Charities has seen their core KPIs improve to optimize the donor journey. Recurring donations are crucial for nonprofit organizations as they represent highly engaged donors and provide sustainable revenue. With Fundraise Up, Greater Good Charities experienced an increase in both the conversion of first-time donors into recurring donors, as well as the duration of recurring donations. “We’ve seen the average duration of recurring plans grow from around 10-11 months to about 17 months with Fundraise Up,” said Horton. “And for recurring donors who use PayPal rather than credit cards, there is less attrition,” explained Horton.

“We saw a significant uptake in PayPal usage after enabling it through Fundraise Up. 48% of our donors now choose PayPal, which speaks to its popularity.”

Salpietro added, “The first thing that comes to mind with PayPal is it’s reliable. It’s known by donors. It’s known by consumers. It’s known by companies.”
