  1. International Axion Observatory

The Letter of Intent for International Axion Observatory was submitted to the CERN in August 2013. [5] IAXO formally founded in July 2017 and received an advanced grant from the European Research Council in October 2018. [6] The near-term goal of the collaboration is to build a precursor version of the experiment, called BabyIAXO, which will be located at DESY, Germany.

  2. The International Axion Observatory

The International Axion Observatory (IAXO) is a proposed fourth-generation axion helioscope. It aims at a sensitivity much improved with respect to past and current axion searches, with real discovery potential. The conceptual design of the experiment has been finished and a Letter of Intent submitted to CERN.

  3. IAXO: the International Axion Observatory

The aim of the proposed International Axion Observatory (IAXO) is to search for axions with a signal-to-noise ratio some 10 5 better than the pioneering CERN Axion Solar Telescope (CAST). Such an improvement is possible only by building a large magnet, together with optics and detectors that optimize the experiment's capabilities. The central ...

The International Axion Observatory (IAXO) is a next-generation axion helio-scope that will search for solar axions with unprecedented sensitivity. IAXO has a unique position in the international landscape of axion experiments, with sensitivity to a region of the axion parameter space that no other experiment can access.

  5. IAXO: the International Axion Observatory

The growing IAXO collaboration has recently finished the conceptual design of the experiment, and last year a Letter of Intent was submitted to the SPS and PS Experiments Committee of CERN. The committee acknowledged the physics goals of IAXO and recommended proceeding with the next stage - the creation of the Technical Design Report.

  6. IAXO: Search for Axions

IAXO. With a magnet length of 20 m and 8 possible measurement sites, IAXO is the largest helioscope experiment planned so far in the search for axions and ALPs (Axion Like Particles). Each of these measuring stations can be equipped with different telescopes and detectors, which should cover a wide range of axion parameters.

The main difference is that the intermediate-stage experiment BabyIAXO will feature two 60 70 cm diameter bores of a 10 m long magnet, while IAXO will have 8 coils of 20 m length with the same cross-sectional area. While a strong magnet is a key component, sensitivity can be

Crucial factors in improving the sensitivity for IAXO are the increase of the ...

  10. Physics

IAXO would have sensitivity to detect axions in the much larger mass range than CAST and thus would explore an important area of parametric space which is also inaccessible by other techniques. In addition, IAXO's magnet could also host other kind of axion experiments, so IAXO could become a sort of a generic infrastructure for axion research.

  11. Iaxo

Inside the sun there are the best conditions for the generation of axions. In contrast to the ALPS II experiment, experiments such as International Axion Observatory IAXO concentrate on the retransformation of solar axions into detectable photons by using a so-called axion helioscope. It is currently planned to build the prototype BabyIAXO at ...

This article describes BabyIAXO, an intermediate experimental stage of the International Axion Observatory (IAXO), proposed to be sited at DESY. IAXO is a large-scale axion helioscope that will look for axions and axion-like particles (ALPs), produced in the Sun, with unprecedented sensitivity. BabyIAXO is conceived to test all IAXO subsystems (magnet, optics and detectors) at a relevant scale ...

  13. DESY News: A solar telescope in search of dark matter

The experiment is called BabyIAXO and is two things at once: a telescope in search of dark-matter particles emitted by the Sun, and a prototype for an even larger and more powerful experiment called IAXO, which is short for International Axion Observatory. The international research team that designs and builds the prototype plans to take it ...

  20. Physics potential of the International Axion Observatory (IAXO)

We review the physics potential of a next generation search for solar axions: the International Axion Observatory (IAXO). Endowed with a sensitivity to discover axion-like particles (ALPs) with a coupling to photons as small as gaγ ∼ 10−12 GeV −1, or to electrons gae ∼ 10 −13, IAXO has the potential to find the QCD axion in the 1 meV ...

  21. RADES in the BabyIAXO experiment: Detection of cosmic axions

So far, RADES has been a detector in the CAST experiment at CERN, whose successor IAXO is currently being planned. CAST and IAXO specialize in detecting axions that originate from the Sun. However, these are not necessarily dark matter. With the RADES component, the discovery of cosmic axions is additionally possible.

  22. Axion dark matter: How to see it?

The projected sensitivity of Baby-IAXO is shown in Fig. 5, as well as the possible limits with the full-size IAXO and its updated version. For the experiment to become sensitive in a wider axion mass range, the vacuum chamber needs to be filled with a gas to match the axion mass with the gas plasma frequency ( 88 ).
