In our view, comprehensive research differs from interdisciplinary research in that it considers the interactions of important biophysical and human processes across all relevant spatial and temporal scales. Geography would therefore seem an appropriate home for comprehensive research to flourish (Douglas 1986; Skole 2004; Marston 2006).
