This article reviews literature on positive thinking and its effect on the appraisal of stress, coping and health outcomes. Positive psychology is a new dimension that focuses on positive thinking, positive emotions and positive behavioral qualities that enhance human potential in various domains such as work, coping with stress and health. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of positive-thinking education on mental health and social function and emotional role Student of the University at Farhangian University (Iran). The research design was quasi experimental with pretest-posttest, two month follow up with control group. First, a total of 110 people in the Human Sciences completed the SF-36 Quality of Life Questionnaire and those who scored the lowest score in three levels of social function, emotional role, and mental health, 30 participants were selected and randomly replaced in experimental and control groups. The experimental group received eight weekly 90-minute sessions of positive-thinking education. At the end of the training, both groups were asked to complete the questionnaire again. In the next step, after two months of follow-up, a follow-up test was conducted to measure the training's durability. In addition to descriptive statistics, multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA) and one-way covariance analysis (ANCOVA) were used to analyze the data. The results of multivariate and one-variable covariance analysis showed that there was a significant difference between the two groups in the three scales in the post-test phase. The results showed that the training of positive thinking was effective in both in post-test and follow up stages. Finally, positive group education improves social function, emotional role, and mental health as the subscales of quality of life in the experimental group. Therefore, considering the effectiveness of positivethinking education on increasing mental health, social function, and emotional role of the student, it is recommended that the authorities apply positive education programs in educational programs.
Introduction: Nowadays, aging and its associated problems is a very important concern that has attracted the attention of different researchers with various scientific backgrounds to address this issue from various aspects. Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of positive thinking on psychological well-being and Quality of Life (QOL) in the elderly. Materials and Methods: This semi-experimental study was carried out with pretest-posttest design using a control group and a one-month follow-up. The statistical population consisted of 80 elderly living in nursing centers in Lahijan, Iran in 2018. In this study, 30 subjects were randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups (n=15). Both groups completed the Ryff’s psychological well-being inventory and the QOL questionnaire. The experimental group was also subjected to positive thinking training. Finally, the collected data were analyzed by SPSS V. 22 software using the multivariate analysis of covariance. Results: The result showed that positive thinking training increased the scores of psychological well-being (P<0.01). It also had a positive effect on the QOL of the experimental group compared with the control group (P<0.01), as it increased the QOL score of the experimental group, whereas the control group’s score did not change. Conclusion: According to the results of the current study, positive thinking training can increase psychological well-being and QOL in the elderly.

A B S T R A C T The aim of this study is the evaluation of relationship between optimism (positive thinking) and mental health. In this research, 363 female students of Azad university of Bandar Abbas were studied. Data were collected by Ingram and Visnicky (2002), Mental Health Questionnaire (GHQ) and demographic characteristics questionnaire. Pearson test and multivariate regression were used to analyze the data. The findings indicate that there is a positive and significant relationship between the five dimensions of positive thinking (life satisfaction, health, self-confidence, efficiency, and positive mood) with health. Also, the most promising variables are: life satisfaction, health and self-esteem respectively. Therefore Optimism increases the level of mental health due to the effect on the person's emotions.

Background: Under different circumstances, people are faced with different factors such as anxiety, stress, depression, etc. which are present in all age groups. It seems that positive thinking can be a proper solution to reducing anxiety. Aim: In this paper, the aim is to see the effectiveness of an innovative positive thinking educational protocol on the anxiety and optimism of university students. Method: This study was had a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test, post-test, and a control group. All bachelor and master students of psychology at the Islamic Azad University, Birjand Branch, were voluntarily given Beck Anxiety Inventory. Forty-six students with scores above 8 were selected and randomly assigned to 2 homogeneous case and control groups (with 23 students in each). Both groups took optimism-pessimism tests. The case group received seven 80-minute sessions of Positive Thinking -training program by the researcher, while the control group had no training. Findings: The data were analyzed in SPSS (version 17) using the parametric independent t-test. Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used to examine normality and Fi test was used to study equality of the two groups. Discussion and Conclusion: Teaching positive psychology, findings indicate, reduced students’ anxiety and increased their optimism significantly. Thus, this educational program can be suggested for consultation centers in order to decrease anxiety and increase optimism.
