Apple's Keynote app is part of their iWork suite, the equivalent of Microsoft Office for Windows devices. Several iOS users and Mac users use Keynote to create presentations. However, when you step outside of the Apple ecosystem, you'll run into compatibility issues with Keynote files.

Unfortunately, Microsoft PowerPoint doesn't have native support for Keynote files, which means you need to convert them into a compatible file format before accessing your presentations on a Windows computer or Android device. Here, we'll cover the different ways to export your Keynote files as PowerPoint presentations.

How to Convert Keynote Files to PowerPoint Presentations on iPhone & iPad

Let's start with the Keynote app for the iPhone and iPad, since many people who own them use a Windows PC too. First, make sure you have the Keynote app installed on your device and then follow the steps below to convert them to PowerPoint files:

  • Open the Keynote app on your iPhone or iPad and select the presentation you want to convert.
  • Tap on the More button, which is indicated with a three-dot icon.
  • Next, select Export from the pop-up menu.
  • Now, choose PowerPoint for the exported file format.

The Keynote app will now prompt you to share the converted presentation. You can use the iOS share sheet that shows up on your screen to either share the converted file with your contacts or save it to the Files app.

The Keynote app on the Mac functions similarly to its iOS/iPadOS version. However, due to the differences in the operating system, the steps you need to follow slightly vary. So, here's what you need to do:

  • Launch the Keynote app on your Mac and open the presentation file you want to convert.
  • Click on File from the menu bar and then choose Export to > PowerPoint from the dropdown menu.
  • You'll have the option to add a password to your converted document. Click Next to continue.
  • Select your desired name and location for the converted file and click Export .

As you can see, the procedure is pretty simple. You can now open this file in Microsoft PowerPoint or Google Slides and continue making changes to the presentation. Additionally, you can also choose older file formats from Advanced Options during the export to ensure the converted file is compatible with older versions of PowerPoint.

  • Visit iCloud.com using your web browser and log in with your Apple account.
  • Choose Keynote from the list of apps displayed on the home page.
  • Find the file you want to convert and click on the three-dots icon that shows up when you hover the cursor over it.

You're not limited to a single method, even if you don't have access to an Apple device. Therefore, if someone accidentally sent you a Keynote file that is unsupported on your Windows computer, you can always use iCloud or CloudConvert for file conversion.

How to convert a Keynote document to a PowerPoint document

save keynote presentation on mac

All Mac and iOS devices such as iPhone and iPad come  with a suite of office applications pre-installed. This includes Keynote, a presentation software app very similar to PowerPoint, its Microsoft counterpart.

Keynote presentations can easily be viewed on any Apple hardware, but as an application exclusive to Apple platforms, there can be compatibility issues when wanting to share a Keynote document with a Windows user. To avoid these compatibility issues between Mac and Windows, one can save Keynote documents created on Mac as PowerPoint documents that will easily be viewable on Windows.

In this post, we will show you how to save or convert a Keynote document to a PowerPoint document and make sure your presentation can work across both Mac and Windows platforms.

How to convert a Keynote presentation to a PowerPoint presentation on Mac

If you’re working with a .key presentation on your Mac and want to turn it into a .pptx presentation, follow these simple instructions:

1) On your Mac, create a new presentation or open an existing one.

2) Go to File > Export To > PowerPoint…

Export Keynote to Powerpoint on Mac

3) In the window that appears on your screen, you can click on Advanced Options and choose between the .pptx and .ppt formats. If you are saving this presentation to use on a newer Windows computer, which is most likely, select .pptx which is the default option anyway. Click Next to continue.

Choose .ppt or .pptx export format

4) Enter a name of the exported document and select a location where you want to save it to, then click Export to finalize.

Once exported, you will be able to share your newly converted .ppt or .pptx file with any Windows user. Although some animations and fonts might not port over properly from your original Keynote document, the exported file should be mostly compatible with Windows computers.

How to save a Keynote file as a PowerPoint file on iPhone or iPad

The process described above for Mac is virtually the same on iOS, whether you are using an iPhone or iPad:

1) On your iPhone or iPad, open an existing Keynote presentation, or create a new one.

2) Tap on the ” … ” ellipsis icon in the upper right corner of the screen.

Convert Keynote to PowerPoint on iPhone

3) Select Export .

4) Choose the PowerPoint format. Note that unlike the file conversion process on Mac, iOS doesn’t let you choose between the .ppt or .pptx file formats as it uses .pptx by default.

Choose PowerPoint format on iPhone

5) Finally, select how you want to share the converted document. You may share it by email or iMessage, but you can also save it to the Files app or any cloud-based storage service such as Dropbox.

As you can see, the conversion process is fairly quick and simple. The best thing is it doesn’t only work for Keynote. For example, you’d follow the same basic instructions if you wanted to  save a Pages document as a Word document .

How to convert an Apple Keynote presentation to a Microsoft PowerPoint file

  • When you convert Keynote files to PowerPoint, you can allow collaborators without Keynote to open presentations on non-Apple computers.
  • Mac users can convert files from Apple's presentation app Keynote to Microsoft Powerpoint through the exporting feature.
  • Visit Business Insider's Tech Reference library for more stories.

Mac users have access to several applications with similar functions to corresponding Microsoft programs. These include Pages (a word processor similar to Microsoft Word), Numbers (a spreadsheet application similar to Microsoft Excel), and Keynote (a presentation application similar to PowerPoint).

When sharing documents with non-Apple users and in general, converting your files to the more universal Microsoft applications helps to ensure that the recipient can open the file you send.

Converting your Keynote files to the corresponding Microsoft PowerPoint format takes just a few clicks. It saves Windows users the trouble of using a third-party app to open their Apple file .

After you've converted the Keynote file to a PowerPoint file, you can check that your presentation saved correctly when you attach it to an email. The file type at the end of your upload name should read ".pptx." It will read ".key" if it's still a Keynote file.

Add live video feeds to any slide.

Appear in a window, right on your slides, with a picture-in-picture display during remote presentations. Or include a live feed of your iPhone or iPad screen to show off apps.

Present with your team. Seamlessly.

For slideshows with multiple presenters, you can now take turns controlling a single deck — from anywhere — on Mac, iPad, and iPhone.

Play YouTube and Vimeo videos right in Keynote.

Embed a video from YouTube or Vimeo, then play them right in your presentations, without the need to download or open the video in a media player. *

Present over video conference. Like a pro.

Play a slideshow in its own window so you can access other apps while you present. You can view your presenter notes, upcoming slides, and navigation in a separate window as well.

Outline your presentation. Easier.

With outline view for iPhone and iPad, quickly jot down your thoughts, restructure ideas, and move concepts from slide to slide. Then switch to slide view and start designing.

Turn handwriting into text. Magically.

With Scribble for iPadOS and Apple Pencil, your handwritten words will automatically be converted to typed text. Take notes, edit a presentation, or annotate text quickly.

Present like never before. From anywhere.

With Keynote, presenting remotely can be just as seamless as presenting in person. Say goodbye to saying “Next slide, please” — now multiple people can present together, even remotely, with each person taking control of their section of the deck. Add a live video feed of yourself to any slide for a picture-in-picture experience. Or when presenting on your Mac, include a live feed of your iPhone or iPad screen to walk through your apps. You can even play a slideshow in its own window, so you can simultaneously access your notes and other apps.

Any presentation. Any device. Anytime.

You don’t work in one place on just one device. The same goes for Keynote. Work seamlessly across all your Apple devices. The slides you create using a Mac or iPad will look the same on an iPhone or web browser — and vice versa.

You can also work on presentations stored on iCloud or Box using a PC.

Start using Keynote at iCloud.com

Create and present together. Even when apart.

Work together in the same presentation, from across town or across the world. You can see your team’s edits as they make them — and they can watch as you make yours, too. When presenting as a team, you can also take turns controlling a single deck from anywhere.

Use Apple Pencil when inspiration strikes.

Add color, illustrations, and handwritten comments for more beautiful presentations with Apple Pencil on your iPad.

Plays well with Office.

Teaming up with someone who uses Microsoft PowerPoint? Keynote makes it a great working relationship. You can save Keynote documents as PowerPoint files. Or import and edit PowerPoint documents right in Keynote.

Troubleshooting, how to save a keynote .key as powerpoint .pptx presentations on mac.

Keynote file as PowerPoint file on Mac

Keynote presentations are saved as .key files by default, but because Keynote runs only on Apple system software and iCloud you can’t always open a .key presentation on PowerPoint. The simplest solution to this is to save a Keynote .key presentation as a PowerPoint .pptx presentation, which can then be opened in Microsoft Office, Google Slides Docs, Keynote, OpenOffice, or just about any other presentation app regardless of the platform it runs on, whether it’s Windows, Linux, another Mac, or even iPad.

What we’re going to do is save the Keynote presentation file as a Powerpoint presentation file using the apps Export ability. Essentially this converts the Keynote .key file to a Powerpoint .pptx file. You can do this with a new presentation or an existing Keynote presentation file, it does not matter. For best results you’ll want to update Keynote to the latest version available to your Mac.

Note that if the Keynote file is password protected you would want to unlock the file before saving as a Powerpoint file.

How to Export Keynote Files (.key) as PowerPoint (.pptx) on Mac

  • Create a new presentation or open an existing Keynote presentation on the Mac with Keynote app

Saving a keynote file as Powerpoint on Mac

  • Go to the “File” menu and choose “Export To” and choose “PowerPoint”

Export Keynote as Powerpoint to convert the file

  • At the Export screen, be sure you’re at the “PowerPoint” tab and then choose under Advanced options the Format: “.pptx” and click the Next button

Save a Keynote file as Powerpoint on Mac

  • Select the file name and destination where to save the Keynote file as a Powerpoint presentation

Saving the Keynote file as Powerpoint

The .pptx presentation file format is generally more compatible with a broader set of apps and operating systems compared to the native Keynote .key file format, so this can be helpful if you’re working across platforms or there is some compatibility issue with a Keynote presentation. The PowerPoint file format is also generally recognized by most other presentation apps, including Google Slides, Microsoft Office, other versions of Keynote on the Mac, OpenOffice, and even Preview in Mac OS. Similarly, you may find it useful to save Pages files as Word .docx format too , especially if you’re in an environment where you’re on a Mac but other users are on various Windows PC with Office suite.

The saved .pptx file will be fully compatible with Microsoft Office and Microsoft Powerpoint, and it can then be opened in those apps on a Windows PC or Mac.

You can also choose .ppt format if you are trying to make the Keynote .key file compatible with a much older version of Microsoft Office and Powerpoint.

Remember, the preview versions of Microsoft Office 2016 suite for Mac is a free download , and the Microsoft Office apps for iOS are free to download too , so if you’re on the fence about getting those apps and working with the native Office file formats directly rather than iWork suite you can try them out on your Apple devices first without any particular commitment.

I have tried and searched! I need to convert .key to .pptx but have the severe quality loss on images (it’s very unprofessional)

whats the best conversion way without losing image resolution???

How do you save “pptx” or “docx” or “xlsx” files on iPhone or Mac? Simply use powerpoint, excel and word app (on iPhone free, on Mac… not huge amount). In this case, you can enjoy the ms world benefits.

While need to know, pages, keynote and numbers specifications aren’t compatible ms apps exactly, thus some features in keynote, pages, numbers will not appear in ms apps correctly.

…but… as you want :)

and viceversa: some features from msoffice will be lost or not appear correctly when converted for opening in pages, numbers or keynote.

How do I find out what critical files on my ox Mac desk top are missing, and why do I keep getting errors when I run my word program. If I could get some answers I’d Approbate it.

is your word correctly installed, or does it hacked?

my suggestion, use “appcleaner” app to completely remove ms applications (all components of it), then install them again. be sure, all components of ms apps are checked while using appcleaner app. empty the trash, restart your mac, then start to install again ms apps.

i think so, it will help you.

In Step 4 of the example, the exported file’s suffix is .key, for some reason. When PowerPoint files are exported, the resulting file name suffix is .pptx .

It’s also possible to save a keynote as powerpoint .pptx on iPad/iPhone. Just open the keynote for iOS app and tap on the sharing button (a square with an arrow pointing upwards). Then tap on ‘send a copy’, choose the keynote to be converted, and tap on ‘powerpoint’ when prompted to select a format. A powerpoint .pptx file will then be created ready to be shared with anybody or exported to any compatible app. This procedure can also be used in pages and numbers for iOS to convert to MS Word .docx and MS Excel .xlsx respectively.

The alternate method to convert to powerpoint from iOS is to open the keynote app (or pages or numbers for word and excel files), select the desired document and then, with the document open, tap on the ellipsis (three dots, …) on the top right and then on ‘send a copy’.

Apple keynote: how to make an interactive presentation..

Although we have all heard of Powerpoint as a powerful tool for presentations, I believe that after using the Apple keynote, I have also learned that it can be used to create impressive and engaging presentations.

In this story I’m going to show you how we can create and Deliver a Killer Keynote Presentation using Keynote

Set it up correctly :

Start Keynote, then choose a Theme . Choosing an appropriate theme can save you time and effort in redefining styles, backgrounds, and image formatting.

Planning your content :

The Slide is the core component of Keynote, so it’s best to view your interactive piece as a series of small, slide-sized chunks. If you want to tell an interactive narrative, you’ll want to write it one slide at a time in words, images, video, or short animations.

Create your content :

The first page will be a title slide , so write a good welcome text ,Also use simplify charts and graphs to present your data,Always try to put points in further interactive way so that viewer can understand and grasp the slides veritably and fluently. it'll also helps to make the bystander always stick with the slide.

Short animations :

  • On the slide, click to select the object you want to animate.
  • In the Animate sidebar, click the Animate tab.
  • Click Add an Effect, then select an animation.
  • To set animation options such as the duration and direction of the animation, use the controls that appear.(Start Transition,Delay)

A Good Animation can help make a PowerPoint presentation more dynamic, and help make information more memorable. The most common types of animation effects include entrances and exits. You can also add sound to increase the intensity of your animation effects.

Presentation experts recommend using animations and sound effects sparingly. Animation can be useful in making a presentation more dynamic, and help to emphasize points, but too much animation can be distracting. Do not let animation and sound take the focus away from what you are saying.

Present it! :

Go ahead — press Play and test out your presentation. Everything should work as you’d expect, and you can press Escape to exit. Save your Presentation to iCloud, then open it on your iPad, and everything will work just the same there.

How to extract files or objects from a Keynote presentation

By Sudz Kar 15 comments Last updated December 29, 2022

If you’re in school or give a lot of presentations for your job, then you’ve probably experienced a time when someone sent you a Keynote file. But then you need or want to get a picture, graph, movie, or another type of content out of that file to save it as a separate file .  But how???

Keynote presentations usually contain a lot of media files and objects such as videos, photos, images, sounds or documents – pdfs- or other embedded objects. And sometimes it’s easy to get things out by showing packaged content–it all depends on your macOS or Mac OS X version. However, no matter your operating system, you can easily extract these files or objects from a Keynote presentation by converting the presentation to a “zipped” file folder.

These tips work for Apple’s entire iWork Suite, not just Keynote. That includes Pages and Numbers.

Note: You can use this method to extract files from PowerPoint files too.

Look For Packaged Content

1-locate the keynote presentation (or powerpoint), 2-make a copy of the presentation file, 3-now you will have the duplicate, 4-now click use .zip if you see the following message, 5-to unzip this file, double-click it, 6-included are videos, sound files or documents are found in the data folder, want another way.

Before you go the manual route, try looking for it within the Keynote file. Right click on a Keynote document and look for the option called Show Package Contents. That opens up a folder with all the documents in that Keynote file. If you don’t see an option for Show Package Contents, follow need the manual steps below.

How to extract files or objects from a Keynote presentation

Old Versions Of Keynote

In older versions of Keynote, the Keynote file is not a single file but rather a directory. It contains many files and directories and the data content is encrypted. When you right click the old version of pages document, it shows Show Package Contents. Accessing this file content gives you all your Keynote file directory and files. Most files like images, graphs, and other content is stored in the Data folder.

New Version Of Pages Document File Format

In the newer version of Keynote, the Keynote file is a single file AND NOT  a directory. So when you right click it, you don’t see the Show Package Contents menu option. So if you’re running a newer version of Keynote, follow the directions below to access your Keynote file content.

Here is how to extract files or objects from a Keynote presentation

Simply right click on the file and select duplicate.

duplicate the file

In our example here, it is the appletoolbox copy file. Now select this new file by clicking on it and press enter to change the file extension. Change the file extension to .zip by typing .zip after the file name . So in our example, the file is now called  appletoolbox copy.zip , as shown below:

appletoolbox zip file

This creates a new folder, which includes all the content files.

zipped file keynote

Now copy any files and objects to any other locations.  This method is identical to the macOS Show Package Contents.

zipped keynote

Starting with Keynote 6.5.3, all iWork applications, including Keynote, have a method to convert a single-file document into a package file format. So if the two tips above didn’t work for you, give this one a try.

Go to Keynote’s File menu and choose Advanced > Change File Type > Select Package Instead of Single File. Then Save.

For some reasons it did not work for me, the computer does not generate this data folder, it only creates another zip file. Not sure why. Any suggestions?

Hi Isabelle,

Try the following: Go to Keynote’s File menu and choose Advanced > Change File Type > Select Package Instead of Single File. Then Save.

Right click on that new Keynote document and look for the option called Show Package Contents. That opens up a folder with all the documents in that Keynote file. Hopefully, you find what you need extracted from the presentation there.

Microsoft Office vs. Google Docs, Sheets, Slides: Which Is Best?

Why is "system data" taking up so much space on your mac, google photos opens early signups for ask photos.

If someone sends you a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation, but you’d rather use Apple’s presentation software, Keynote, you're in luck! Apple's done all the hard work for you. Here's how to convert a PowerPoint presentation to Keynote.

Apple created Keynote knowing that nearly everyone using it would be coming from PowerPoint. This is no surprise, as PowerPoint has 16 years on Keynote and basically owned the presentation software market before Keynote came along.

Related: How to Convert Google Slides to PowerPoint

Knowing this, Apple made it incredibly simple to move from PowerPoint to Keynote by allowing you to open PPTX files directly in Keynote.

To do so, just open Keynote on your Mac, and then click "File" in the taskbar.

File tab

In the drop-down menu, click "Open."

Open button in Keynote menu

In Finder, navigate to the PowerPoint presentation you want to open, select it, and then click "Open."

Select and open powerpoint file

The PowerPoint file will open in Keynote, with some caveats. Unless you’re unusually lucky, you’ll likely see a warning appear. In our example, the source files for some fonts Keynote doesn’t support are missing. We click "Show" to get more information.

Show issues in Keynote

A dialog box appears that will allow you to resolve any issue(s).

Box showing unresolved issues

In our example, the fonts that have a Warning icon next to them need to be replaced. We click the arrows to the right of each font to select a replacement.

Open menu and choose font replacement

When you’re satisfied with your selections, click "Replace Fonts."

Replace Fonts button

Note that this could change some formatting within the presentation, so it’s best to give it a quick once-over after you replace any fonts.

To convert a PPTX file to a KEY file, save it, click "File" in the taskbar, and then click "Save."

Save button in menu

Give your presentation a name, choose where you want to save it, and then click "Save."

Name the presentation and save it

Your PPTX file is now a KEY file.

How to open, edit and save .key Keynote files on PowerPoint on a Windows PC

Martyn Casserly

Is there an easy way to open Keynote files on a Windows PC? My colleagues all use Macs.

Keynote may well be the best presentation software package you can buy – or get for free with any new Mac – but if truth be told it isn’t the most widely used. That honour still belongs to PowerPoint, and while it’s possible to open that program’s files in Keynote, the reverse is a little more complicated. Fret not, though, because in this tutorial we show you how to edit .key files in Windows.

Related: Apple Keynote Review |  10 Apple Keynote Tips | Alternative to Apple’s Keynote or PowerPoint for Mac

What is a .key file?

When you create a new presentation in Keynote the file is automatically saved in the .key format. This is different from, say, PowerPoint, which uses the .pptx format, or Microsoft Word, which uses the .docx variety . Essentially they all do the same thing, but not all applications can open each type of file.

The main issue for Keynote users is that PowerPoint is unable to read .key formats and therefore makes it a bit awkward to easily move presentations between the platforms. It can be done, though, as we’ll explain below.

Exporting a Keynote presentation in a PowerPoint format

If you’re the creator of the Keynote presentation then it’s actually very easy to convert it into a PowerPoint format that your Windows friends can open.

The first thing you need to do is find the file in question, open it, then go to the menu bar at the top and click File > Export To > PowerPoint.

How to edit Keynote files on Windows: Exporting a Keynote presentation in a PowerPoint format

This will open a new window that asks you to confirm that you want to Export to PowerPoint. Exporting creates a duplicate version of your Keynote presentation, so be assured that your original remains intact. The new one is simply in a format that can be opened on a Windows PC.

Before you create the new file try clicking on the grey arrow next to Advanced Options .

how to edit keynote files on windows

This reveals a dropdown menu where you can select the exact format you want. Usually the .pptx is the one you’d choose, but if the person to whom you’re sending the file is using an older version of PowerPoint (circa 1997-2003) then you can opt for .ppt instead.

Click Next , name the file and where you want to store it, then click Export . A copy of the presentation should now be found in the folder you selected, replete with a .pptx extension at the end. This means you can now send it to your Windows chums and they’ll be able to open it just like any other PowerPoint file.

Using iCloud to edit Keynote on a Windows PC

If the Keynote file wasn’t created by you, or you don’t have access to a Mac, then it takes a little more effort to open a .key presentation.

The easiest way is to use iCloud, Apple’s online portal, which includes web versions of Pages, Numbers and Keynote. If you’re not an existing iCloud user then you can quickly set up a free account. Just visit the iCloud site and click on the Don’t have an Apple ID? option at the bottom of the screen. Follow the instructions and you’ll be good to go in a couple of minutes.

Related: How to use iCloud Drive

With you account set up, you now have access to the online version of Keynote. Just log into iCloud with your Apple ID and you’ll be presented with a selection of icons for all the different Apple services. Click on the blue Keynote icon to launch the application.

how to edit keynote files on windows

In the Keynote app you’ll see a Settings icon (a gear cog) at the top of the page. Click on this and a dropdown menu will appear, with the option Upload Presentation at the top.

how to edit keynote files on windows

Select this, navigate to your .key file, click Open, and your presentation will appear in the Keynote app.

how to edit keynote files on windows

From here you can either edit the presentation and then save it as a normal .key file again, or if you want to use PowerPoint then you can download a copy in the .pptx format. To do this click on the Wrench/spanner icon in the upper right area of the screen and select Download a Copy from the menu that appears.

how to edit keynote files on windows

Now all that’s left to do is choose the PowerPoint format from the windows that appears and you will have a .pptx file that can be opened on your Windows PC.

how to edit keynote files on windows

While many of the features, fonts and formats will be shared across different applications, you might come across a few things that don’t quite match up. In these cases it’s best to let the software replace them with the ones it recommends. Hopefully most things will go smoothly, and before long both you and your Windows counterparts will be creating beautiful and informative presentations in a harmonious fashion.

How to Watch Apple's iPhone 16 Launch Event, and What to Expect

Glowing lights in the shape of apples with the words Apple Event below

If tech news is feeling a little repetitive —with new phones and gadgets arriving in a seemingly endless stream over the past few weeks—know that it’s not Groundhog Day. It is, however, almost time for yet another Apple event where new hardware will show up.

At an event at its company headquarters next week, Apple will unveil the iPhone 16, as well as the next Apple Watch and (most likely) some AirPods . But like most tech events these days, much of the presentation is likely to revolve around artificial intelligence .

The promotional image for next Monday’s event is an Apple logo wrapped in a colorful glow with all the shades commonly used for Siri, Apple’s digital assistant. (Tagline: “It’s Glowtime.”) This may be a hint that Siri is getting yet another (ahem) glow-up or, more likely, that Apple will delve deeper into the Apple Intelligence features it showed off at WWDC this summer. With Apple just now getting into its AI era, Siri and Apple Intelligence are likely to be a huge part of the event.

The announcement will stream live on Monday September 9 at 10 am PDT, 1 pm ET, and 6 pm BST. Watch it right here on this page, or on Apple’s website or YouTube page , or by launching Apple TV+ on an Apple TV. (You don't need to be a subscriber to watch the video on Apple TV+.)

Here’s what to expect from Apple, based on rumors, leaked information, and what we know from covering every iPhone launch since the first.

iPhones Galore

Like every Apple event this time of year, the main thing to expect is new iPhones. In this case, these will be the iPhones 16. According to leaks around the blogosphere (mostly thanks to Bloomberg’s Apple leaker supreme, Mark Gurman) the new iPhones are expected to be largely the same as the devices in the recent past. Expect a base model, along with the more expensive and feature-rich iPhones 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max.

The biggest new feature, according to the rumors, appears to be a new type of photo button on the Pro models that acts like the shutter button on a dedicated digital camera. Press the button down slightly to focus on your subject, then press all the way to take the photo.

All the new iPhone 16 models should also have the action button, a feature that lets you easily access shortcuts to apps like the camera, flashlight, music playback, and other apps you can set the button to activate. Currently, the action button is only available on the iPhone 15 Pro models.

ReMarkable Brings a Color Screen to Its Focus-Friendly Tablet Lineup

To go with those new iPhones, we’ll probably also see some new headphones. There has been some indication in the rumor mill that new AirPods models will make their debut next week.

Lil’ Watch, Lil’ Mac

Apple may also be showing off some revamps of its Apple Watch, including a cheaper version made out of plastic—or at least some material less expensive than the Apple Watch’s typical aluminum—that may primarily be aimed at kids.

Apple is also likely to release an even dinkier version of its desktop computer, the Mac Mini, which will likely come with Apple’s new M4 chip . There may be some teases for the next round of MacBooks as well, but we typically see new MacBooks later in the year

AI, Obviously

It wouldn’t be a product announcement in 2024 without a bunch of eyebrow-raising AI demos onstage.

Apple has long been known for taking its time introducing new features and product categories after other device manufacturers have thrown themselves into whatever the new thing is; the company prefers a strategy of quality over immediacy. That is certainly the case with Apple’s AI offerings, which the company touted at its WWDC event in June—well after rivals like Google, Samsung, and Microsoft had been stuffing their devices with generative AI features.

Apple is positioning its Apple Intelligence tech as more of a feature than a product itself, in an effort to appeal to customers who just want AI features that work rather than trying out a bunch of different chatbots. These AI features work on iPad and Mac computers, but on the iPhone they’re limited to the 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max models. It is expected that Apple Intelligence will be available across the iPhone 16 lineup. Still, while Apple Intelligence is out in iOS 18 as a beta release now, all the new AI features won't be fully rolled out until 2025. That won't stop the company from hyping up all the features it plans to bring to iOS though.

Since 2020, Apple’s event have had been prerecorded keynote announcements, so unless there’s some technical snafu with the projector screen, there likely won’t be many moments where AI demonstrations go awry, like during Google’s Pixel launch less than a month ago when a live demo of the company’s Gemini assistant didn’t understand some prompts.

No matter what Apple announces, its event will likely be a slick, seamless presentation. Maybe in a perfect world, Apple’s AI features will turn out to run just as smoothly.

Physical presentation clicker that works with keynote on iPad?

I like to run slides from my iPad using the Keynote app. I've never regularly used a presentation clicker, but I'd like to switch to using one.

I purchased a physical clicker that stated that it works with iPads (the DinoFire for Bluetooth Presentation Remote). I've connected the clicker to my iPad via Bluetooth, and the clicker works to adjust the volume on my iPad and it works fine with the PowerPoint app on my iPad. But it is not working with the Keynote app! When I click the advance buttons, nothing happens in Keynote (again the clicker works fine on my PowerPoint iPad app).

I've tried googling for more information about using a clicker on Keynote. But all I'm finding is information about using my watch or phone as a clicker. I don't want to do that--I want to use a clicker with physical buttons.

Does anyone know if it is possible to use a clicker with physical buttons to advance slides on Keynote on an iPad? (If so, is the problem that the specific device I bought is not compatible and I need a different clicker? Or, is it a settings issue?) Any information would be very much appreciated!
