Especially, I love to read books on real travel stories as well as adventures. My habit of reading books developed since I was a child. We had no television or mobile phone in our house but a lot of books. I used to read from them whatever I wanted to. Most of those I hardly understood. I still remember those days when my father used to buy me monthly child magazines like Anandamela and Suktara.

I still love reading comics from those magazines. My favorite comics are Tintin, Chacha Chowdhury as well as Nonte-Fonte. I have recently read a book named Aranyak written by Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay. It is all about the life experience of the author in a remote rural location of India. In this book, the description of nature is so vivid that any passionate reader will get lost in an amazing experience. All my teachers as well as my parents appreciate this hobby.

Every year, I go to the Kolkata International Book Fair with my parents. Moreover, After getting promoted to high school from primary, I got exclusive student access to my school library.

Nowadays, I borrow more books from the library than buying them. Not only the school library but my father has also helped me to get a membership of the district library Khardah.

I love reading all kinds of books. But especially I am passionate about reading historical fiction. For this reason, Bengali writer Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay is one of my most favorite writers. Besides these, I also love to read adventure fiction as well as mythologies.

At that age, I fond of those kinds of books. Later on, I came to know that those books are known as comics. I have read so many comics since my early childhood. When I get tremendously bored of my regular monotonous life, at that point my storybooks help me to travel in some dream location being a part of some exciting adventure of imagination. After going to high school, I got exclusive access to my school’s students’ library and a different world opened there for me. From then, I borrow books so many kinds of books from my school library and read them thoroughly.

Here, I would like to mention my school librarian sir Mr. Paresh Pathak who helps me to choose the proper book according to my age and reading tendency. From my school library, I have read many works of great authors like Guru Rabindranath Tagore, Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay, Satyajit Ray, and many more.

Recently, I have developed a special interest in magic realism. Very recently, I was reading a work of the great Nobel laureate Gabriel Garcia Marquez. The name of the book is very famous One Hundred Years of Solitude. It is an amazing work that led me to a different fantasy world along with the dark humorous touch of eternal truth.

I’ve also read some works of Franz Kafka. His famous work The Metamorphosis will be very close to my heart always. For these also all credit goes my school librarian sir. He first suggested me to read something unconventional out of the box.

I got the first book of Gabriel Garcia Marquez from him. Moreover, I learned about magic realism from him as well. I believe that no matter what happens with human beings, but books, stories, and realization are eternal. They will never abandon me in my entire life.

Through my hobby dancing, I was able to lose weight and my chubbiness was gone. The regular dancing that I have been doing has kept me fit. Sometimes I make money from dancing especially during the holidays. Dancing at events or festivals earns me money. At school, I have won awards because I participate in dance as an extracurricular activity. It is a great feeling to have dancing as my hobby because it is what I love and enjoy.

Then I was puzzled about the thread movement and how it miraculously turned torn pieces into masterpieces.

Subsequently, my curiosity became a source of entertainment. I would play around the machine and time would disappear while I do so. I would cut my old clothing and run it through the machine just to see it move. Slowly and surely, I became enchanted with sewing so much that it dominated my thought and became my hobby.

Now, I would not leave a single week without creating something adorable with the sewing machine. A few moments spent away from this intriguing environment feels like an eternity. What’s more, I have found that sewing has a therapeutic effect on me. It helps clear my thought and keeps me focused on a single task. Though there is financial gain in this endeavor I do it simply for the thrill.

Me and my hobby:

Sewing is my hobby and it is refreshing to me but over time I realized that by virtue of my love for this craft I became interested in related fields. First, I have to create a sketch of what to sew. This process is a purely creative one. As I draw, I can picture what I would do to the real fabric when I eventually get on the machine. I also visualize what the eventual dress would look like on me or whoever would eventually wear it.

Then, I cut pieces of the fabric as outlined in my drawings. The cutting stage is mainly about precision. The materials have to be systematically shaped in such a way that it fits the measurement taken. Any deviation from this would lead to undesired results.

Finally, the pieces are carefully held together by the automated needle of the machine. This is the most fulfilling part of the process. This is so because seeing the conceptualized idea come to bare serves as an icing on the cake. However, the feeling of excitement I experience after the cloth is made quickly evaporates. I am immediately left with the desire to start over again. Though the process might seem mechanical or even uninspiring to an onlooker, I wouldn’t trade my hobby of sewing for anything else in the world.

Any activity which one does for pleasure is called as a hobby. It can anything ranging from reading books, spending time with your pets, travelling around, talking to new people, just anything which gives immense pleasure to a person and relieves a person of the tensions of daily life. I too have a hobby which is quite common in the world as so many people do it.

My Hobby, My Pleasure:

My hobby is reading anything knowledgeable be it the newspapers, magazines, short story books or the novel series. I just love to read. In fact, I have this good collection of books at home which I feel is the biggest treasure I have.

How it all started:

When I was in school we were asked to read the newspaper every day and come up with three national, three international and three sports news in the class. This was a sort of regular activity for us. It is from here that I gathered interest in reading newspapers. Slowly as we all grew up this hobby of reading newspapers in the morning developed into a full-time activity of reading which came around.

Overall these years, I have the pleasure of reading the Harry Potter series, which still remain the best, The Shiva Trilogy from Amish Tripathi, books from good authors both from India and abroad.

Books, Our best friends:

Life isn’t anything but difficult to live without friends. With regards to Books, they can be our closest friends ever. Great Books advances our brain with great contemplations and information simply like a decent friend. We can’t feel alone in the vicinity of books. We can learn numerous beneficial things while perusing a decent book. Books composed by well-known and experienced authors causes us to improve as a person and furthermore show us how to serve the general public in the most ideal way. When we are separated from everyone else, we can generally get a book and begin perusing to feel unwind.

Books are our closest companions since they rouse us to do incredible things throughout everyday life and conquer our disappointments. Books can be great or terrible, however, it is our duty to pick them wisely. Kinship with Good books makes you Good individual and companionship with Bad books make you a terrible individual. Books will dependably be there for you in your terrible occasions. Books motivate us to have dreams. Moreover, books convey a positive incentive to our life and make us a better human being.

Advantages of Having a Hobby:

Having a hobby is really basic for a solid character and body. In addition to the fact that they are fun, a hobby can revive one completely, help with remaining solid, dynamic and cheerful. Spending time doing the things that we appreciate can help postpone maturing and prompt positive emotions that assistance battle against specific diseases. A hobby makes you more joyful and more substance as a human being. In addition to the fact that this is useful for your general wellbeing and prosperity, it likewise expands your fulfilment with life and brings you harmony, joy and energy. What’s more, makes you simpler to live with! Having a hobby is a very good thing that can be developed at a point in one’s life from childhood all the way to adulthood but it is sometimes best to have a hobby from childhood. We all participate in some kind of activity in line with our interests that we derive joy and happiness from; this activity is our hobby. We all have different hobbies based on our interests, dislikes and likes.

Types of Hobbies:

There are a lot of different types of hobbies that we can show interest in and develop, examples of hobbies are singing, dancing, playing outdoor or indoor games, drawing, collecting antiques, bird watching, writing, photography, reading, eating, playing, sports, music, gardening, cooking, watching TV, talking and any other activity you can think of. Our different hobbies that become a source of earning money and a means of livelihood and we can build a very successful career out of our hobbies. A hobby is meant to be enjoyed in our leisure time but it can become a lot more than that.

My Hobbies:

One popular misconception is that we can have only one hobby; this is totally not true. As a child growing up, I loved and enjoyed cooking and I would spend hours watching cooking programmes and watching my parents cook. Sooner rather than later, I also started trying out different recipes and dishes I had seen on TV and sometimes even tweaked a few things and made delicacies of my own. Cooking gave my childhood so much joy and bliss which made it one of my hobbies, I could cook all day and I get just happy at the thought of trying out a new recipe. Another hobby of mine is soccer which is kind of an accidental hobby (if there is anything like that). I had always loved watching football (or soccer) and was pretty good at analysis and understanding of the game but I never really tried playing the sport because of my first hobby that is cooking which meant I was more of the indoor person. Fate would have it that one of my close friends was on the varsity soccer team and all the goalkeepers got injured so he told me about an open audition for the position of goalkeeper and I just decided to try out. I was wonderful at the try outs and got a spot on the varsity soccer team, I became a pretty brilliant goalkeeper and I look forward to every opportunity to get on the field of play. There is this feeling of fulfilment and satisfaction I get anytime I am on the field of play. It is very possible to have more than one hobby so open yourself to the possibilities of all the different activities and interesting things around us.

My Favourite Hobby:

My favourite hobby is gardening. I spend most of my leisure time when I am not cooking or playing soccer in gardening. Gardening has been a huge source of knowledge, education, delight and entertainment to me. I have had the opportunity to learn a lot of new things on flowers, plants, vegetables, butterflies and even birds from gardening. My parents have a little plot of land where I pursue and practice this hobby. I have different varieties of vegetables, flowers and a few fruit trees in my garden. Some of the vegetables I grow are carrots, tomatoes, cauliflower, cabbage, spinach, radish, chillies, bitter gourd, etc. I also grow flowers like jasmine, roses, lilies, merry gold, carnation, poppies, flux and forget-me-not. These flowers make the garden a delight to behold and give the garden a soothing fragrance.

There are a few fruit-trees in the garden including banana, mango, guava and pomegranate. The garden is visited often by quite a number of birds and there are even some birds are live permanently on the fruit trees. The chirping sound made by the birds and their sweet music gives the garden the perfect condition and makes it the ideal place to be.

Gardening has also helped my other hobby (soccer) by keeping me mentally alert, physically fit and very fresh. The ambience of the garden is highly invigorating, fresh and soothing; there is calmness to the atmosphere of the garden. The processes and activities involved in gardening include weeding, digging, grafting, cutting, maturing, watering and the tilling of the soil. All of these activities get me the needed physical exercise I need to make my body fit and keep me sharp mentally.

A lot of family members and friends appreciate my hobby gardening. Over the years, I have been able to develop skills needed in gardening, sometimes; my father also helps me maintain the garden. I have a worthy and wonderful collection of magazines and books on vegetables, flowers, fruit trees and also gardening overall. It is quite a wonderful experience to watch plants grow, develop and blossom.

I am not full of knowledge in gardening; sometimes, I get advice and help from a professional gardener so as to know the right thing to do. I spend a large chunk of my money purchasing manure, seeds, fertilisers, books on gardening and gardening tools and implements. I try to catch all the programmes on television about gardening, I visit plant and flower shows and also fruit and vegetable exhibition. I try my possible best to balance all my hobbies, studies and other engagements without hurting any one of them for the others.

Gardening motivates me and gives me a sense of purpose about what I can achieve with my life. Once I am gardening, I forget about all of my worries, troubles and problems of the world. I am my happiest when I am working in the garden or when I get to give my friends and my family members fruits from the garden.

I am a growing kid who studies in Class 7th. A habit of reading will make a positive impact on my growing personality.

A good habit can be formed at any age. So start early and establish good reading habits today. You can achieve anything in life you desire, so start now.

Reading is a skill that requires time and patience. I was a slow reader until I created a schedule for myself. If you spend 10 minutes per day, you will be able to read three books per month.

Books are my best friend. I love to read a good book, and I do not feel alone. Reading provides the highest source of knowledge and experience and gives us an idea of things in the world.

Young people are the future. And the end needs to be rich in knowledge. So teach them to read!

Reading books is an essential activity for both your educational and mental growth. It is not only a form of entertainment or a hobby to keep you pleased. Reading stimulates your brain by increasing the flow of ideas, making you more effective in whatever you do.

Reading good books is an excellent way to keep stress at bay. Good books help us stay engaged and entertained while promoting a healthy mind at the same time. In addition, they allow us to decompress from the daily commotion and share with others what we’ve learned.

In a world where everyone is suffering from anxiety and depression, books can cure-all.

Books that get to you and my hand, there and everywhere like the Internet, almost infinite, but if you do not contribute to choosing what to read as a reference, then all these books have no practical purpose!

Knowledge is the foundation of all good things in life. Without it, our world would be much more imperfect. Only critical reading skills will help us live life to its fullest.

I am an avid reader. I read every day, and my bookshelf is filled with fiction and non-fiction books. They have opened up my mind to countless ideas and concepts, and billions of people have read these books before. I want to pass the same benefit onto you.

Here are some advantages of reading books as a hobby:

1. Reading Reduces Screentime

Reading can be considered as an indirect screen time detox , since you will lessen your screen time by reading physical books.

Even if you choose to read using an e-reader like kindle , it is not as harsh on the eyes compared to your laptop or phone.

An easy way to reduce your screen time is by following a tip by one of my favourite productivity Youtubers, Ali Abdaal .

He says to put a kindle by your bedside and leave your phone in a different room before bed time so you read more instead of staring at a screen before bed.

2. Reading Sharpens Your Wit

Reading is hobby that stimulates the mind. The mind will sharpen from all the plots we’ve read, characters we engage with and words we’ve learned.

The mind is like a sponge. The more we read, the more we absorb and the more knowledgeable we become.

Besides interesting plots and characters, books have the capability to widen horizons, enabling you to explore different cultures from around the world.

The world is at your fingertips, one book at a time.

Moreover, non fiction books will ensure that you are well equipped with the knowledge of theories, literature and other global events and occurrences that will gain a great deal of knowledge. 

For example, I recently read Atomic Habits and it had taught me so much about breaking bad habits and forming good ones with tiny actionable steps.

3. Enhances Imagination

Reading (especially if you read genres like fantasy, thriller and mystery) can help you have a more creative imagination.

Being creative can help you in many areas of life that require problem solving such as being in school or at work.

Besides just helping you solve life issues, an enhanced imagination is an added advantage if you want to become a published author one day.

There are many careers besides writing that need a creative mind – such as, being an artist, film director, song producer and more. Reading inspires you to look at things differently, hence the imagination skills.

4. Reading Can Be Relaxing

Although this point applies to everyone, it is especially true for adults with busy schedules.

Adults who are busy and are constantly trying to chase something forget to be present in the moment. Reading is a mindful activity with many mental health benefits .

Besides that, insomniacs and people who are constantly struggling to fall asleep, reading before bed time can help calm the mind.

Every individual is different, but there’s no harm in trying to add reading to your night-time routine by leaving a book by your bedside instead of reaching for your phone and scrolling through TikTok.

5. Reading Allows You To Travel Through Books

Although fun, travelling is an expensive, energy-driven and time-consuming hobby. One of the best reasons why reading is a great hobby is because it allows us to travel without getting off the couch.

We get to explore different countries, cities and cultures. Besides, if you do plan to travel to a certain location, you can always read books set in the location or books about the destination.

Besides finding friends who read online, you can also always find them at a book cafe, library or book fair!

7. Reading Is Not An Expensive Hobby

I know what you’re thinking – books are getting expensive these days.

But how many books do you purchase and actually end up reading? In reality, you read way less than the books you buy. Reading and buying books are two separate hobbies!

Reading is a simple hobby – you only need a book and a comfortable place to read. You don’t even need to purchase books, you can always read for free at a library or a book cafe.

8. Reading Can Help You Stay Motivated

If you’re in need of motivation when studying or working on a project – reading self-help books can help you stay motivated.

Sometimes, these books aren’t just about motivation but they can help you with your challenges that stop you from staying motivated for long periods

10. Reading Can Be Done Anytime Or Anywhere

Honestly, you can read anytime and anywhere.

Reading is so accesible because of apps like the kindle apps that allows you to read your kindle books on phone.

Plus, don’t lie – you’ve probably read a book before on your phone in the toilet or even on the treadmill when you hit the gym.

11. Reading Can Help Increase Empathy

Reading fiction gives you insight on different plot points and characters which allows you to empathise with different people in real life.

Besides, there are many self-help and non-fiction books that helps us learn more about ourselves and the human race so we can better empathise with people.

12. Reading Helps With Family Bonding

This is something i’ve personally noticed growing up.

I’ve had uncles and aunties who love reading and soon their children also takes interest in the hobby. Together, they go out for coffee and read as a family.

Reading is mostly a good habit, especially when done moderately. It helps you improve your general knowledge and writing skills. It can also act as a great down time for a night routine or be part of a refreshing morning routine.

Can Reading Become Addicting?

Yes, reading can become an addiction. The term Bibliomania is best described for this condition. Human nature is such that whatever we seek pleasure in, we tend to get hooked to it.

Final Thoughts: Why is Reading a Good Hobby?

Reading as a hobby is great because of the many benefits it brings to me (ok fine, it’s not always about getting smarter or improving your mental health but it also helps me escape reality).

At the end of day, reading is supposed to be a fun hobby. If you feel pressured to read a certain book or feel like you should be reading as much as some book influencers are on social media, know that you are not alone.

How reading became my favorite hobby and saved my grades

In the age of the internet, most college students would likely say their free time is taken up by scrolling through social media or streaming TV shows. While I understand the appeal of limitless content at the tips of your fingers, I believe that you’ve never really been immersed in a story until you’ve read one.

Now, most people immediately dismiss the idea. Why read “boring” books when you could throw on the latest Netflix series and text your friends at the same time? A lot of us need to have constant stimulation in the form of each new TikTok in order to stay focused. I found that reading really helped me increase my attention span. When you read, you can’t multitask without missing the story, so you must be fully focused on what you’re reading. Spending my free time completely focused on only reading made it easier to replicate that focus in the rest of my life. Suddenly I was able to study with less energy and much faster. Once I got focused, I stopped wanting to pick up my phone all the time. This newfound ability allowed me to do my school work better throughout high school and into college.

More importantly, reading is fun. Since people have been writing stories for centuries, there is something for everyone. Not only are there books in every genre imaginable, each genre contains novellas, lengthy series, standalones, and everything in between. Once you realize that not every book is like the ones you were forced to read in high school, a whole new world of entertainment is opened up to you. My favorite to read are mystery novels, especially those by Agatha Christie and Holly Jackson, but you can choose from action, romance, fantasy, historical fiction, and so many more.

Now that I’ve found my niche, after each long day of class or studying, I can wind down with a story I’m invested in, escaping into a world of my choosing. Of course I still use social media to talk to my friends or stay updated on trends, but by making the switch to reading most of the time, I’ve become much happier. I know it can be hard to get over the initial difficulty of extending your attention span, but by becoming invested in longer stories over the course of days or weeks, rather than 30-second online skits, I greatly improved the quality of both my free time and my schoolwork.

My Special Hobby 

My favourite hobby is watching TV. Whenever I have free time, I love watching Television. It never obstructs my studies. Hobbies help us to expand our knowledge, and it teaches us several things. First, I like to finish all my school homework and then start watching TV. This lightens my mood and sparks up the excitement inside me, as it increases my curiosity about the world. Watching different useful stuff on TV enhances my knowledge horizons and gives me lots of joy. 

Benefit of My Hobby

It is a good habit because watching TV escorts a lot of knowledge in various fields. There are several channels on TV, which represent worldwide affairs. I watch the news and I like channels, such as animal planet, discovery channel or another informative channel. These channels increase my curiosity and encourage me to learn about different aspects of life.

I interestingly watch a cartoon network that provides me with creative and new ideas to make cartoons and arts. Some of my favourite comics are Mr Bean, Tom and Jerry, Scooby-Doo and many more. Many art-themed cartoons, like The Pink Panther and SpongeBob, inspire me to draw them. Primarily, the artworks of comics attract me and inspire me to decorate my scrapbooks with their figures. 

Parents Find Hobbies Useful

My parents praise my hobby, and they are also happy when they see me watching national and international news and several events on the TV. Moreover, they feel proud when they listen to the news update from me. 

Now, I study in class with two and eight years old girls. Creating jokes, sitting idle and spending time roaming around is unproductive, according to my parents. My parents made sure that I developed my hobbies from childhood. Therefore, they encouraged me to create some good habits. 

Watching TV in a proper way gives you so many important roles. It helps us to make something creative. It provides us with knowledge about different places, their cultures, climatic conditions and especially their history. Furthermore, it widens our imagination by showing imaginary characters from the marvellous Disney World and Jungle Book. 

Importance of Hobby

Getting the latest updates and gaining knowledge about today’s incident is so important. It provides us with a lot of benefits, which help us in developing our knowledge and thoughts. It also enhances our minds of thoughts, ideas, and experiences. Hobbies are all about interest and can only be done in our leisure time. These activities help us in keeping our mind and body in a relaxed and refreshed state.  

Moreover, hobbies also increase our productivity and improve our overall health. It protects us from the risk of dementia and also protects us from sadness in our life. It also helps in our overall development and ignites our hidden talents and passions. So it is essential to have hobbies in our lives.

Several Aspects of Watching TV as an Hobby

Watching TV is not only about fun and joy; it also introduces us to new characters and stories to analyse. Every show comes with a new set of characters and stories that tickles our brains. As a hobby, you can compare these different storylines and their characters with one another. 

There are different types of programs on TV that are so crucial to enhancing our awareness about worldwide matters. TV channels also telecast different types of educational programs to improve our knowledge of history, science, economics, math, culture, and geography etc. In such programs, you get to analyse the different acting styles, writing and overall good and bad behaviours of various communities, their thoughts and cultures. 

Different Genres on TV  

Each TV show has different types of content or genres. These TV genres are sci-fi, dramas, adventurous shows, action, animations and reality shows. While Watching TV, it is not necessary to stick to any one genre and thus, you get to explore various other genres. 

And this is the most valuable part of my hobby. Television brings together numerous elements of imagination and ideas from different genres and allows me to explore them. 

Some Other Hobbies

You can have more than one hobby, as they are not restricted to any particular limit. All the things that you have an interest in can be regarded as a hobby. A person can have multiple areas of interest and have more than one activity as a hobby. 

I, too, have more than one hobby. Other than watching TV, I like to listen to music. This helps me keep myself calm after doing lots of work and gives my ears and heart a soothing effect. 

Besides these, I also have hobbies, such as reading comic books, painting, writing narrative stories, and maintaining a scrapbook. These activities make me happy and enhance my hidden qualities. Writing and reading boost my imagination. Along with these activities, I participate in gardening in my leisure time because I love to plant new and colourful flowers. 

Moreover, I like dancing and singing. These are the activities I often do whenever I find time after completing my studies and homework. I do participate in singing and dancing competitions as well because I like to sing and dance. My teachers and parents always appreciate and encourage me to pursue my hobbies.

Every human being on this Earth is unique. Not only in terms of appearance but also for inherent characteristics. All the people work, think, talk, interpret, act, etc. , in countless ways. These are all the things which express me. One needs to have a good command of themselves before going to write something about their life. Reading changes my life all the time.

It’s a way for me to see the world differently and to communicate differently and to kick my feet up and breathe and breathe and breathe all at the same time. Reading takes time. We’ve got to fill ours somehow. This relaxing, enriching, and productive hobby might just change your life too, if you let it.

It doesn’t matter if you haven’t done it much lately or you never really have. All that matters is that you start and you keep going. If you develop a reading habit , you’ll see that the benefits of reading are plentiful.

Here are 11 benefits of reading that you’ll reap immediately and in the future .

• Reading makes you smarter

“Smarter” might seem like a vague umbrella term–and it kind of is–but only when you overcomplicate it.

At a basic level, becoming smarter than your previous self means that you learn something you didn’t previously know. By reading and then continuing to read, you do this over and over. Some things will stick. Some will not. Over time, you’ll rake in new practical information (may I recommend some mushroom books ?!) and use it to communicate better and analyze better in real life. Even if you stick strictly to fantasy books , you’re going to get smarter. But of course, if smarter is your goal, nonfiction books are about as practical as they come.

Don’t get frustrated if you can’t hop into reading and make your brain grow Jimmy Neutron-style right away. Reading and learning takes patience and resilience, but if you build the habit, it will come.

• Reading is a form of guided meditation

You may experience this benefit immediately.

Something is happening in your body and mind. You are circulating. You are sitting still and breathing and engaging the parts of your brain that require focus and retention. If it feels difficult to read or stay in the same mental space, that’s because it is. Like meditation, it takes practice. Once achieved, it can feel like a continuation of breaths of fresh air.

Some people will tell you that reading reduces stress, but stress sucks and I can’t put pressure on the task of reading like that. But I can confirm that sitting quietly and breathing is a very good thing.

There are so many ways to entertain yourself at home in the year 2023. Some are outside, some are inside, some are on screens, and yet…

We still get bored.

(Or most of us do).

When you read fiction and narrative nonfiction, you are watching a story unfold on the television screen of your imagination. The images are a combination of the things you know and the things the author is conveying to you, and it appears this way in this exact form only to you.

The benefits of reading stories are endless. Get lost in one; you’ll never know what you’ll find until you do.

Wait! How is a hobby that puts you to sleep anything but boring?

Hear me out…

Sometimes, you want to sleep.

You’re lying in bed and getting stuck in Youtube time-warps until it’s later than you wanted it to be and you have to get up in the morning. Even if you do put the phone down and surrender yourself to the act, it can be hard for your brain to slow down; the blue light from the phone can affect your sleep-wake cycle .

Any 10th grader in an 8 AM English will tell you: Reading can make you sleepy. Regardless of how good a book is, the act of scanning the text and processing what you’re reading is a natural way for your eyelids to start fluttering.

My favorite way to do this is reading nonfiction books (because I can stop midway!) with my Kindle and the bedroom light off. That way, I don’t need to do anything except lower my hand and eyes and I’m off to dreamland.

• You can listen to books while doing chores & other mindless tasks

I do so many dishes. I live in the kitchen sink. While I’m doing them, I wear headphones. But I’m not always in the same mood. Sometimes it’s music, sometimes it’s basketball podcasts, and sometimes it’s audiobooks.

Ever since starting my Audible free trial , I’ve been hooked on audiobooks. I’ve read biographies while brushing baby bottles, bird books while scrubbing too-large pots. Instead of listening to the 24-hour news cycle concerning how the Sixers will let me down this year, I’m learning and giving myself a fun new hobby of looking in the sky in real life to try to figure out what that bird is.

Quick note: I’ve been listening to audiobooks for a couple years now, and I haven’t read a single fiction book! Nonfiction gives me opportunities to miss out on a paragraph or two while I get spacey, and yet I can still understand what in the world is going on. My recommendation is to dive into nonfiction audiobooks as an option for when you’re cleaning and don’t look back.

You can definitely learn from both Google and social media, but the best way to see the complete picture is by reading a book about it. Turn to experts for your information; read more books .

• Reading is time-consuming and inexpensive (or it can be!)

Our lives are made up of time. We have to fill it somehow.

If you find yourself bored with your regular routine, inject 30 minutes of reading time into it, and you could feel productive and rested by the end of it. When you’re retired or on summer break, reading can fill those long empty days with excitement, enrichment, and meditation.

You can definitely spend a lot of money on books, but you can also get around that pretty easily. The library can be a generous best friend, and your local thrift store or used bookstore can supply you with hours of entertainment for actual quarters. Why I like it: My favorite hobby is gardening because it refreshes my body and mind and I can concentrate more on my studies. It is helpful for my health. Exercise is done by physical exertion in the garden and the fresh air of the garden keeps the body and mind strong and cheerful.

I have put a fence around my garden. I feel a great joy to see the flowers in full bloom. The flowers are like my friends. They take me closer to nature. Usefulness: I get many benefits from my garden. Gardening is a good exercise. Before I made this garden, I was a sickly boy. I lost my hunger and became weak. But when I started this garden, my health improved. Sometimes my neighbors take flowers from my garden to decorate their homes on festive occasions. All these fill my mind with joy and pride.

Some of us like gardening, some like to listen to music, some like to draw, some like to raise birds, some like to go fishing, some of us like to collect coins or stamps from different countries. In this way, a person chooses his favorite hobby according to his own choice. Like everyone else, I have a favorite hobby, and that is gardening.

One would wonder why I spend time and energy on such an unproductive task. One would think that this is just a waste of time and energy. I don’t feel or think it so. The one or two hours that I spend daily in my garden are not useless. It strengthens my body and refreshes my mind. Every day in the morning I feel great pleasure when I visit my garden. My heart leaps for joy as the flowers sway in the gentle breeze. At night when the sweet smell of flowers comes into my room, it makes me happy and fills my mind with heavenly peace. That is why I choose gardening as my hobby.

My garden is in front of our house. Every day in the afternoon I go to my garden and work there for about two hours. I usually dig the soil and make it suitable for planting new plants. I uproot weeds and grass from the garden. I water the plants regularly and take care of them. I have almost all kinds of flowers in my garden, such as the rose, the Chameli, the Shefali, the sunflower, the Daliya, the Beli, the Shiuli, etc.

A hobby gives pleasure and joy. It makes a man active and strong. A person who has a hobby does not spend his leisure time lazily. I have benefited immensely from being a member of Bishwa Sahitya Kendra, every week thousands of books-loaded cars come to my house and hand over my favorite books.

  Read books for pure joy! Don’t think of reading as a chore. Rather make it enjoyable. If I talk about my experience, I have not found anywhere else what I got in my life by reading books. That is why reading books is my favorite hobby.

My Favourite Hobby

If I were to pick one favourite hobby of mine out of the many I have, I will definitely pick gardening. I developed a taste for dancing when I was very young. My hobby is reading books. Whenever I get free time, I read books and I enjoy it. My teacher always tells us that reading is very important for children as we gain a lot of knowledge through it. My parents also buy books for me and now there is a small library in my home.
