Why are my Facebook reviews not showing up?

Facebook reviews are valuable to businesses. Customers value reviews from genuine patrons who can provide details about their experience, as it helps them build trust in your company.

An essential element of brand reputation management and online marketing, Facebook reviews are important to have on your business page. But if those reviews don’t show up, you’ll miss out on the benefits they could offer your business. Fortunately, there are several ways to fix that issue.

Does my business need Facebook reviews?

Free guide & checklist: how to respond to reviews.

If you have a Facebook Business Page , then encouraging your customers to review your business maximizes the value you get from that page and the return on the time you’ve invested in your social media marketing.

Customer reviews add authenticity to a business page and help potential customers make buying decisions. Positive reviews may prompt a Facebook user following your page to stop into your store or make their first purchase on your website, converting that lead into a paying customer.

Even responding to negative reviews allows you the chance to demonstrate that you value your customers and are invested in customer satisfaction.

Why aren’t my Facebook reviews showing up?

There are several reasons you may not see your Facebook reviews . The first is that Facebook has transitioned from reviews to recommendations. Facebook is no longer using the star ratings that customers relied on for years. Instead, when leaving a review, customers are asked whether they would or would not recommend a business.

While Facebook has done away with star ratings, the meat of the reviews — the comments — are still there. With Facebook recommendations, customers can continue to leave detailed feedback about your business. The star ratings you received are still used and factor into your business’s overall rating.

Keep in mind that there is a delay between when a customer leaves a review and when it posts on your business page. A customer might leave a review while still in your store, but it may not show up for several hours.

If you do not see any reviews or page ratings, and your customers can’t find a way to leave ratings for you, you may need to turn on your reviews. If your review section is hidden, it will be difficult for customers to figure out how to review your business.

How to fix missing Facebook reviews

If you do not see reviews because your Facebook reviews are off, you can fix the issue in just a few minutes.

Facebook gives businesses the option to turn their reviews off, which will hide your existing reviews and prevent followers from being able to leave new reviews. This can be helpful if you’re experiencing problems with spam or fake reviews, or if you’ll be away from your business temporarily and won’t have time to monitor reviews.

When you turn your reviews off, Facebook will save your existing reviews. You can enable reviews in the future, and your old reviews will be visible again.

To turn your business reviews on:

  • Log into your Facebook account and go to your business Facebook page.
  • Under your “Manage Page” section, click on the “Settings” button. You will see a menu on the left-hand side of the page and should click on the “Templates and Tabs” section.
  • Look for “Reviews” and toggle the option to “On.”

Your reviews tab will now be visible, and customers will be able to leave new reviews and see the previous page reviews.

How to get more Facebook reviews for your business

Once you’ve turned your Facebook reviews on, you will need to encourage customers to leave testimonials about your business. You can do that in several ways.

Share reviews on your website

Embedding some Facebook reviews on your website not only builds buyer confidence in your business, but also reminds them that they can leave a review. Include a call to action on your site, asking customers to take a few minutes to write a review. Provide the link to your business Facebook profile, so it’s easy for them to get to your page.

Encourage new customers to leave a review

If you engage with new customers in person at your store, thank them for their business and ask them to leave a review at the end of the checkout process. If you don’t see new customers in person, follow up with a thank-you email or SMS message and include a link to your Facebook page so they can quickly leave a review.

Reach out to your entire social network

Periodically post on your social media profiles and ask customers to leave a review. Explain how critical reviews are for small businesses, and remind them that it only takes a few minutes. Direct them to your Facebook profile with a link, and thank them for taking the time to support your business.

Manage your social media with Broadly

Facebook is critical for businesses , and online reviews are crucial to your small business’s digital marketing and reputation management. Broadly can help you gather more Facebook reviews and monitor what people say about your business online.

Why Your Facebook Business Reviews Tab is Missing

  • Rachel Solway
  • November 12, 2021

Facebook Reviews Tab Missing

Facebook has long been one of the best websites to use for a business, particularly when you’re a smaller or more local business looking to attract and engage a local audience. To that end, they’ve had a wealth of features you can use to attract, refine, target, and engage your local fans. One such tool is the Business Reviews section.

Thousands of small businesses have come to rely on these reviews, so it can be very concerning to find that they’ve suddenly disappeared. And yet, that’s precisely what happened to many Facebook pages over the last year.

What happened to reviews, and can you get them back?

Facebook Bugs and Glitches

The first reason why many Pages seem to have lost access to their Reviews tab is due to a Facebook bug. Every couple of years, it appears that Facebook encounters errors in their Reviews section and temporarily disables it. It happened back in 2017 , and it happened six months ago . It’s unclear whether or not this is the same issue and Facebook doesn’t care, or if it’s different issues.

Facebook Bugs Glitches

Sometimes, Reviews are disabled, either temporarily or permanently. It seems to happen entirely randomly, and the businesses affected by it don’t have much recourse. You can send in a support ticket, but we all know how Facebook is, with responding to customer feedback.

Unfortunately, it seems that many people who experience this issue, even if they get their Reviews tab back, lose some portion of their existing reviews and recommendations. It’s unclear whether or not that is due to individuals deleting their accounts, a bug losing the reviews, fake reviews being purged, or another issue. Facebook is not forthcoming with information about the subject.

Not all is lost, however. Many people do get their total count of reviews back after some indeterminate period of waiting. For example, many people in this Facebook support thread have their complete reviews list back by now.

Reviews into Recommendations

Digging into the problem, it seems that at least part of the issue stemmed from Facebook changing their Reviews system at the core level. Years ago, Reviews were tied to physical business attributes, and you needed to have your business location with map, address, and contact information available to enable reviews. This requirement was a way to cut down on the burden of hosting reviews for tiny web businesses and enforce reviews being visible for small businesses.

In the years since, Facebook has transitioned its Reviews tab to a stand-alone tab, and since then, it has converted it from Reviews into “Recommendations & Reviews.” The new, modern Recommendations still show up under a “Reviews” tab in the top bar. However, the transition from one system to the other temporarily disabled the tab for many businesses.

Facebook Business Recommendation

Today, it seems as though the issues are resolved. Virtually everyone we can find complaining that their reviews are missing now has their reviews back, such as this page and this page.

You’ll notice that, currently, the “Reviews” section is just an infobox. The star rating out of five is estimated “Based on how many people recommend or don’t recommend the Page, as well as any past ratings and reviews it may have.”

Today, individuals can no longer leave star-rated reviews for businesses on Facebook. Instead, the only option available is to either Recommend or Not Recommend a business. This recommendation, or lack thereof, is calculated into the star rating based on previous metrics.

Business owners may also notice something else on the Reviews tab: a box asking for feedback. It appears for people who have an admin account on the Page, and says this:

“Have Feedback About Your Business’ Reviews Experience? We’ve made changes to the Reviews tab and would love your feedback. What do you think of the new experience?”

Whether or not that feedback goes anywhere is another story, of course, but it does indicate that Facebook is aware of and acknowledges a change they made to the system.

That said, it’s also possible that many reviews are “missing” for one reason or another. You can count on many pages yourself; a page that claims to have 150 reviews may only show 70 or so of them. That seems to be Facebook hiding old reviews and only showing more recent recommendations, though some old reviews (the 1 and 5 stars, in particular) seem to have converted into recommendations.

The Possible Removal of Recommendations

Another potential cause for concern is some hints we’ve seen that Facebook might be removing the Recommendations and Reviews feature altogether. At the start of 2021, someone having issues with the Recommendations feature posted about it , with information from their Facebook Support contact. They said:

“I have gotten word back from our team. It looks like this is happening to a bunch of Pages in preparation of removing the Recommendation system like I was mentioning. Our team is working on a replacement system but they do not have any time frame when that will be released. Expect the Recommendation and the ratings to section of the review tab to be completely remove in the near future. The reviews will stay but the Recommendation and the ratings will be removed.”

Since then, many businesses have had their Reviews removed or the data removed, but the tab is still visible, in a way that feels quite damaging to a Page. Unfortunately, there’s no known issue, so the best we can do is offer troubleshooting tips for as long as Facebook persists in half-measures and incomplete changes.

Troubleshooting a Missing Reviews Tab

There are generally a handful of reasons why you might be missing a Reviews tab, with varying levels of accessibility. You may or may not be able to solve the issue, and part of it depends on what Facebook is doing behind the scenes. Sadly, they don’t like talking about what they’re doing until they’ve finished, so we don’t have much more information than you do.

Your Reviews tab was disabled at some point.

Perhaps the most common reason that your Reviews tab is missing is that it was somehow disabled. Facebook allows you to customize which tabs are visible on your Page, and in which order. You only get a few spaces for tabs before the rest become hidden under a “More” drop-down, so turning off tabs your business doesn’t use is a good idea. Here’s how to troubleshoot this issue:

Log into your Facebook account and visit your Page.

Facebook Login Page

On the top bar, beneath the cover photo, click the More drop-down. Check for Reviews. If it’s there, you’ll need to move it to be more visible.

Facebook Checking for Reviews

If Reviews is missing, click on the Edit Tabs entry at the bottom of the More box. If the Edit Tabs entry isn’t there, you’re probably not logged into the correct account. Switch and try again.

Facebook Edit Tabs

In the Edit Tabs menu, look for Reviews. If it’s not there, skip to the next section of this troubleshooting list. If it is, make sure the radio button is blue (enabled) rather than gray (disabled).

Facebook Disabled Reviews

This menu is also where you can reorganize your tabs. The six dots to the left of the tabs are boxes you can click and drag to reorganize the order of the tabs. Note that there’s no “save” button; every change you make is reflected on your page immediately.

Reorganizing Facebook Tabs

It’s possible that your Reviews tab was disabled at some point in the past. We’ve seen a few different reasons why this might have happened.

  • Someone accidentally clicked the button and, not knowing it saves automatically, either refreshed or left the settings page.
  • Facebook bugged out or intentionally disabled Reviews for your Page for one reason or another . A lot can go wrong on a site of this size, and a lot can slip through the cracks.
  • You may have experienced an influx of negative reviews and, in an attempt to stem the tide, temporarily disabled the Reviews tab . If you did so and then forgot about it (or if a third-party reputation manager did so and didn’t change it back), it may still be hidden.

Unfortunately, there’s no real way to tell what the cause is unless you have internal documentation.

Your Page template changed to one without a Reviews tab.

Above, we mentioned that if your Tabs settings menu does not have a Reviews tab, skip to this section. What happened?

Facebook rolled out different “Page Templates” in the past, and every Page has been converted to one of those templates. The templates are Standard, Business, Venues, Nonprofit, Politicians, Services, Public Figures, Restaurants & Cafes, Shopping, and Video Page.

Facebook Page Templates

Depending on the nature of your Page, you may have chosen a template other than Standard or Business. That’s fine; doing so gives you access to a more customized and engineered experience for that specific kind of entity. It changes things like your available Call to Action buttons and, critically, the range of Tabs available to you.

You can see the complete list of templates and the tabs available to them here . To summarize, though, several Page Templates do not have the Reviews tab available; these primarily include the Videos and Politicians templates. If you’re set to one of these templates and don’t need to be, it can be beneficial to change from that template to one that gives you more options.

A third-party service has replaced your Reviews tab.

Another issue we’ve seen is that some third-party services replace the Reviews tab with their own custom tab and use their own data to host your reviews instead. Here’s an example .

It’s unclear whether or not this is still an issue. This issue was more common when a business needed to have a certain number of followers before using Reviews, which is no longer the case. Additionally, pages under 2000 likes cannot make custom tabs .

Facebook Page Tabs

While this is relatively unlikely to be the cause of your problem, if you’re using a third-party system that manages your reviews, this may be the cause. Additionally, if you used one in the past but canceled, they may have taken down their page and your reviews with it.

Your reviews are either too old or too new.

Facebook has rarely shown every review for a page unless that page only has a couple of reviews. If you have very old reviews or reviews that are under 30 days old, it’s possible that they just aren’t showing. There’s not much you can do to recover old reviews, and new reviews would presumably show up after a few weeks, so you can’t do anything other than wait.

Facebook Good Recommendation

Also, some reviews may get removed if the person who left the review deleted their account. It’s possible, that the total review count and score stay the same, but the review disappears. We haven’t verified if this is the case, but it’s plausible.

Getting More Reviews

If you’re a small business and rely on reviews to survive, Facebook getting rid of the Reviews tab could be devastating. You aren’t entirely out of luck, however. One excellent option is still available to you, and that’s Google Business Reviews. Google’s Business Profile ( formerly My Business ) allows you to aggregate reviews directly on Google.

If you’re mourning the loss of your Facebook reviews, and want to get your reviews back, consider reaching out to us. 15 Apr Why can’t I see all of my Facebook reviews?

Facebook has come a long way from the simple social site first launched back in 2004. What initially began as a website for college students fifteen years ago is now the largest social media platform in the world with over four billion users. It’s not surprising that forward-thinking companies quickly learned that Facebook could be used to promote their brand and connect directly with customers. Facebook soon realized that growth not only could come in the form of personal accounts, but also corporate, launching business pages in 2007.

Today, over 32% of Facebook users interact with brands on a regular basis [Sprout Social]. Once important facet of this interaction comes through the form of reviews. Business owners can choose to include a reviews section on their page, allowing customers to recommend a company that they support. Positive reviews are vital, and in a recent BrightLocal survey, it was discovered that 85% of people trust online reviews as much as their friends’ and families’ endorsements. Nearly 70% of customers are more likely to use a local business with positive reviews, and 40% of consumers said they would avoid local businesses that have negative reviews.

Assuming a company has reviews enabled on their page*, there should be no stopping customers from easily recommending and leaving comments about their favorite companies.  The overall number of reviews, both positive and negative determines a page’s rating. However, unless a review is left publicly, it will not show up on the company’s page. This can be a problem for service-based small businesses that rely heavily on reviews and word of mouth when trying to make a name for themselves in the local community.

facebook review not visible

Users should select “public” from the drop down box to ensure their review will be seen by both the business and other potential customers.

So what should a small business do when asking for testimonials on their Facebook page from loyal clients? When asking for a review, be sure to state that the review needs to be public. If not, the review will only be seen by the customer’s Facebook friends and any positive review that is made privately will not add to the page’s overall rating.

*Enable or disable a business page’s reviews in page settings under the “Templates and Tabs” button.

Facebook reviews not showing up

  • Post author: Andy Bate

Recently, I’ve had many business clients contact me asking, ‘Becs, where have my Facebook reviews gone?’ or ‘why can’t I see Facebook reviews’, and tell me, ‘I think Facebook removed reviews’.

Facebook reviews are so important, aren’t they? I bet the last time you considered paying for a service or product online you headed straight to the reviews and took a moment to read through the Facebook recommendations, to make sure that you were investing in something worthwhile.

I’m the same – Facebook reviews (recommendations) are social proof, helping us determine if a company is reliable or not and it helps us make the right decision when parting with our money!

Therefore missing Facebook reviews are a big concern as we know that all potential customers will be on the lookout for them.

There are 3 reasons why your reviews may not be appearing on your Facebook business page:

 1. You’ve not enabled Facebook Reviews Tab:

  • If you’ve not enabled the Review tab, then it won’t appear on your Facebook page. This means that no one can leave you a review or see any of the lovely reviews that you’ve been given.

This is a Facebook problem that’s very easy to rectify. And don’t worry if this feature has been accidentally switched off – your reviews won’t have gone anywhere.

  • Head to your Facebook business page.
  • Click on ‘Settings’ on the left-hand side of the screen.
  • Find ‘Templates and Tabs’
  • Make sure it is switched on – this shows as blue.

facebook review not visible

(If you have recently switched to the new Facebook experience your layout will be slightly different.)

And there you go; your Review tab will automatically appear again, and all your past reviews will be on show for all to see. And your happy customers can once again start leaving you amazing reviews!

2. The reviewee can see their review, but you can’t:

If ever you’ve had a customer say, ‘hey, did you get my review?’ and it just isn’t showing under your Review tab it’s highly likely that your customer hasn’t set their review to Public.

To write a review for a company you need to check that the ‘world’ icon appears next to it – this means that everyone can see it and it will appear on the company’s Facebook business page.

Here’s how to leave a review:

  • Open up the company’s business page.
  • Click on the Reviews tab.
  • You’ll be asked to click to confirm that you recommend them.
  • Write in your review when prompted.
  • Under the ‘Sharing to’ drop down menu, make sure it says ‘public’.
  • Your review will appear straight away.

facebook review not visible

Pass this information on to your customers to make sure that the reviews that they have written are public and not just available for their friends to see. If Facebook reviews are not set to public they do NOT count towards your review rating, therefore make sure to check with customers they are public.

If they’ve made a mistake and the review was set to “friends” only, don’t worry, it’s easy to edit. They just need to go on their profile click more, go to reviews and change the privacy setting of the review.

facebook review not visible

If they see the icon of two people next to the review – as shown in image below – then they need to click on the icon and change it to the Public (the world icon). The Facebook recommendation will then appear on your Facebook page and count towards your review rating.

3. There’s a glitch – Facebook reviews not working 2022

There will always be an instance where things just go wrong and your Facebook reviews disappear. Unfortunately, this is par for the course with Facebook, it is constantly changing and when a big change happens like the layout this is when Facebook glitches and errors often happen.

For example, a common glitch to affect Facebook recommendations when updating to a new layout is that your reviews will be there for all to see, but Facebook will state that you have 0 recommendations. What a contradiction!

For this example, let’s look at Paula from Taylor’s page. She’s got lots of amazing Facebook reviews, but as you can see, at first glance you might think that she doesn’t have any. It clearly says, ‘No recommendations yet’, but just look to the right of that message and there they are!

facebook review not visible

One piece of advice I would give is to always take a screenshot of your reviews just in case they do simply disappear into a black hole. If people delete their Facebook profile, those reviews will also disappear.

Reporting scam Facebook reviews

This next bit goes off on a slightly different tangent from the ‘Facebook reviews disappeared’ theme but it is a serious issue to keep a watchful eye on.

My Facebook page gets visited by many people wanting to pick up valuable social media tips, and my reviews get read a lot too. This is great news for me, but other people can take advantage of this and use this space to promote their own company – how very rude!

While you can’t remove these spam reviews, you can report them.

Facebook recommendations not showing 2022: How to report problems

Always report things that have gone wrong on your Facebook page or some activity on your page from another Facebook user that doesn’t seem right or fair.

The more people that report an issue, the more likely this social media giant is going to do something about it.

  • Head to the drop-down box in your personal account.
  • Click ‘Help and Support’ at the top right-hand corner of the screen
  • Follow the prompts to report a problem.

Why my Facebook business page is not showing Ratings?

I have created my Facebook page a month ago, My clients want to give me reviews but they are not able to access the feature of ratings. So they all left me with recommendations. I received couple of recommendations but My page is still not showing any ratings at all to public. I can still see recommendations when I clicked in the review tab but General public still sees as 0 ratings.

It says you have not received enough recommendations to count your ratings. I have seen many pages that have only 1 recommendations but still showing ratings? But my page still says 0/5 ratings and 0 recommendations. I have double checked tons of times, All the reviews options and tabs from the settings are On and visible to public.

Why my followers are not able to see my ratings?

I am not able to contact Facebook admins as they have no such criteria. I have reported this as a problem many times but got no response.

how to turn on facebook reviews

  • October 22, 2020

Facebook continues to be one of the most critical social media platforms for small businesses to tap into. Over 90 million small businesses using Facebook and 7 million leverage the platform for advertising. With these stats in mind, it doesn’t come as a surprise that companies continue to incorporate Facebook into their online reputation management efforts.

One of the most popular features that a Facebook Business page offers is the option to enable and showcase customer reviews. This is especially critical as it is a factor consumers keep in mind before choosing to engage with a business. In fact, Facebook has an advantage over other social networks in this regard, with the platform influencing buying decisions 7 times more than its competitors.

Because of the visibility and exposure that Facebook can provide for small and growing enterprises , if you haven’t already turned on your Facebook Business page’s review functionality, you certainly should now!

After all, your customers trust online reviews just as much as they would a recommendation from a friend or family member.

How To Enable Reviews On Your Facebook Business Page

Enabling reviews on Facebook can help build your businesses SEO strategy, brand presence, and boost your profitability in the long run.

Believe it or not, the process is a lot simpler than it sounds too! With five easy steps, you can turn on Facebook reviews. Here’s everything you need to know:

Step #1: Log in to your Facebook Business page

  • Step #2: Click on the “Settings” tab

Step #3: Navigate to “Templates and Tabs”

  • Step #4: Enable Reviews through the slider

Now, this step may seem pretty obvious but is required for you to access your Facebook Business page or utilize any of the functionalities Facebook offers you for businesses.

You want to make sure you log in through the associated administrator account for your Facebook Business page. If you’re already logged into your personal Facebook account, it’s also easy to switch over to your Facebook page.

Resources To Get More Facebook Reviews

You’ve turned on Facebook reviews for your business page, and customers can finally start dropping in those star ratings and positive reviews you deserve!

But, as with most online marketing tactics, it doesn’t stop there.

Turning on Facebook reviews is just the first step in a long journey to growing your reviews and reputation on Facebook.

There are several strategies and resources you can equip yourself with to get more Facebook reviews over time.

These include the following:

Embed Facebook reviews widgets on your website

Positive Facebook reviews can also be showcased on your website or other social media platforms through widgets. Showing potential customers the star reviews you’ve gained is a method of social proof.

Other customers who have shopped with you may also be more encouraged to drop in reviews if they see reviews. This is especially beneficial for small and local businesses, where mutual friends and family may be using the same service.

Enabling the use of widgets will also make it easy for customers on other platforms to be redirected to your business profile on Facebook directly without having to do a manual Google search for your business name.

Share Google reviews on Facebook

Suppose you already have an established business profile with several reviews on Google, but you’re just getting started on Facebook. In that case, you can “borrow” your Google My Business success and share it on Facebook’s platform.

Pro-tip : tagging customers directly on Facebook, who have left positive reviews on your Google business listing, is also an innovative way to engage with them directly . They may even share the post on their profile, allowing your business to gain more visibility through their extended Facebook networks and linking back to your Google page as well, which provides further detail on how to reach you (ex: your phone number.)

Make Review Request Email & Social Media Campaigns

As mentioned in the previous point, email marketing and social media campaigns are a smart way to boost your brand image to both an existing pool of customers as well as new customers simultaneously. It’s crucial to engage with customers throughout their customer journey, and even more so after a sale or service is complete.

You want to ensure your customers are happy and content with the level of service you’ve provided, and if so, give feedback online.

Pro-tip: create Facebook review email/social templates that you can keep handy. This will save time, allowing you to easily shoot out review requests without getting hung up on the structure or the way you frame it.

Of course, it’s best to customize the requests to write a review depending on your business’s nature and the customers you deal with, but it’s better to be prepared with a bag of tricks than to stress when the opportunity comes!

Facebook provides a multitude of value offerings for businesses that are willing to give it a try. Nothing should hold small business owners and business managers back from wanting to grow their business, especially when there are so many useful tools and platforms to leverage in today’s digital marketing platform.

So, what are you waiting for?

Set up that Facebook Business page and get those business reviews flowing !

Why can't I see my Facebook reviews?

Pexels marcus aurelius 4064080 why cant see facebook reviews

Well, in part, because Facebook reviews are now recommendations If you’ve noticed that your business’s page reviews haven’t been visible lately, you aren’t alone. This can be an alarming problem for small businesses that rely on reviews to bring customers in. Facebook accounts for 19% of all customer reviews online, putting it right up there with Google as a review amplifier.

In a 2018 update, Facebook decided to begin changing its review system to recommendations. The aim was to allow business pages to appear when users would post asking for recommendations. While their intention of better serving users seemed like a noble one, it hasn’t exactly been a smooth transition for business owners.

So, if you’ve returned to your Facebook business page after a break, you may find things have changed. There are no more stars — customers simply answer the yes or no question “would you recommend this business?”

Is this thing on?

One of the most common Facebook FAQs ‘Why aren’t my reviews showing?’ The most common answer? Because they aren’t switched on! So, before getting started, you should make sure that you have your recommendations turned on. Just because you didn’t switch them off, doesn’t mean that it hasn’t happened. You will also need to make sure your business has claimed its Facebook page. All you have to do is to navigate to your Facebook business page. From here you will click on Page Settings> Templates and Tabs> and click to the right of the ‘Reviews’ tab, to toggle it on. Check out Facebook’s Help Centre for full instructions .

Claim it and name it

Claiming your Page for your business is done using the Facebook Business Manager , which allows you to either add an existing page to your business manager account or ask to access a page owned by another person. Your business must claim your Facebook page because this allows you to enable reviews.

  • Go to the homepage and click on the gear icon to open the business manager’s settings.

Click ‘Accounts’, then ‘Pages’ and then ‘Add’. This is where you will be asked if you wish to choose between adding an existing page or claiming somebody else’s page. Either way, you will have to enter the page name or URL.

With your business page claimed and reviews turned on, you will be able to reap the rewards of one of the biggest review banks on the web.

The benefits of recommendations for small, locally-based businesses

In the world of modern business, the review is now king. Seeing as one in three Facebook users use the platform to ask for recommendations, it is important to make sure that you are on top of your review game. As a small to mid-sized and locally-based business, you are privy to some preferential treatment when it comes to Facebook’s review system. That’s right people, for once, things are geared up to suit local, brick-and-mortar businesses. Hurrah!

Between the ‘Nearby Places’ feature on the mobile app, the ability to see reviews from Facebook friends, brick and mortar businesses that rely on local customers stand to benefit hugely from getting good Facebook reviews.

The best strategy for getting reviews

With a good review strategy, businesses can gain more clout online, driving growth and brand awareness — but how do you encourage customers to give you reviews? The best way it turns out is to just ask them . How you do that is up to you. As it turns out, people love to give their opinion about services they have experienced. Asking a customer to leave a review as part of your company’s customer experience is not only valuable to you, it makes the customer feel acknowledged and appreciated. Don’t be afraid of a negative review either – it is an opportunity to learn, provide excellent customer service and show Facebook users (all 2.7 billion of them) what your business is about.

Making sure that your business is asking for and acknowledging feedback is the industry standard for local businesses in the modern world – especially on a platform like Facebook. Listening to what your customers have to say will bring you more customers.

Epic guide to Facebook Reviews

Facebook reviews, or recommendations, are a vital part of a business’s online reputation.

After all, they provide the best type of social proof you can get, increase the visibility of your business, and help you convert visitors into dedicated customers.

Moreover, the impact customer reviews have on your business cannot be underestimated. The vast majority of U.S. adults (82%) say they check online reviews before a purchase. Also, over 18% of U.S. adults say they had bought something through Facebook.

So keep on reading as we tell you all about Facebook reviews, how to add them to your page, and how they help your business succeed in today’s day and age.

About Facebook recommendations former Facebook reviews

Facebook Recommendations are a feature on Facebook that allows users to provide feedback about their experiences with businesses, services, or products.

Unlike traditional star-rated reviews, Recommendations enable users to simply recommend or not recommend a business to their friends and network. These Recommendations can include written feedback, photos, and tags, creating a more comprehensive and social form of review. This feature integrates directly into a business’s Facebook Page, making it easier for potential customers to see authentic opinions and experiences shared by real users.

Note: Facebook’s ‘Recommendations’ feature is the evolution of the older ‘Reviews’ system, and you can still find it under the ‘Reviews’ tab of Facebook pages. However, instead of using the old star rating system, buyers recommend (or not) a product or a business, share a written opinion, and leave tags and images (should they choose to).

Example of Facebook page reviews tab

Note: Once you activate the ‘Reviews’ tab and start getting feedback, you won’t be able to delete Facebook reviews yourself. You will have to flag innacurate reviews and Facebook’s team will deal with them if they violate Facebook’s Community Standards.

How to get your Facebook Reviews page link?

Google My Business has made getting a  Google review link  easy, but getting a Facebook review link will be a bit different. No worries, we’ll show you two easy ways to do it!

Option 1: Copy the reviews page URL

To get your Facebook Reviews link, you have to follow two simple steps:

  • Log in to your Facebook page —start by logging into your Facebook account and navigating to your official business page;
  • Add ‘/review’ to your page URL —find the browser address bar, click at the end of it, and then simply type ‘/review’ after your page URL;
  • Copy the URL to share it —simply copy the entire string you see in the address bar for future use. For instance, https://www.facebook.com/embedreviews/reviews is EmbedSocial’s Facebook Reviews page link – as shown below:

facebook reviews url

Congratulations, you have it!

Now, share the Reviews link of your Facebook business page across the internet, such as on your website, in emails, in your newsletters, or on your social media platforms, i.e., anywhere you see a chance to invite your customers to review you.

Note: When sending the link, also add a brief explanation on  how your customers can leave you a Facebook review for your product and services.

Option 2: Build your own direct Facebook review link

What if your customers are not logged into their personal or business accounts? If you send them the above link, they’ll be asked to log into Facebook first, which may discourage them from reviewing your business. No worries, here’s a solution to that:

  • Utilize the Facebook login URL ->  www.facebook.com/login/
  • Put a redirect to your reviews page by adding “next” ->  www.facebook.com/login/?next=
  • Convert your page URL into the corresponding equivalent in HTML and add it after the “next” component ->  https://www.facebook.com/login/?next=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fembedreviews%2Freviews%2F

As you can see, it’s not complicated at all! Just replace the colon (:) with %3A and the slash (/) with %2F. That way, whenever the customer logs in to their account, they’ll be redirected to your reviews page. Works like a charm every time!

How can your customers leave you Facebook reviews?

Since the introduction of the ‘Recommendations’ review system, your clients will no longer have to select a number of stars to describe your products and/or services. They only have to navigate to your page’s ‘Reviews’ tab or follow the above ‘Reviews’ link.

write facebook review

Once there, they only have to tap ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ under the ‘Do you recommend [your business name]’ message. Then, the ‘Recommendation’ box will open and prompt users to share their thoughts about your business. They’ll have to write at least 25 characters.

As users leave you new reviews, they will start appearing at the top of the ‘Reviews’ tab feed of your Facebook business page.

How to respond to your Facebook reviews?

You must respond to all (or most of) your Facebook reviews, both positive and negative. That’s the best way to maintain a strong online presence and build trust with your customers.

To respond to Facebook reviews, you will typically get a notification on Facebook or via email , and when you click on it, it will take you directly to that review, so you can check out the review, and provide your reply—it’s as easy as writing a comment on a Facebook post.

Here are some practical  review reply templates  for review responses:

Positive reviews response example:

Hello [Reviewer’s Name], Thank you so much for your kind review! We’re thrilled to hear that you had a great customer experience with our [product/service]. Our team works hard to provide excellent customer service, and we’re glad to see that it’s making a difference. We appreciate your support and would love for you to share your experience with your friends and family. If you have any other feedback or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We look forward to serving you again soon! Warm regards, [Your Name] [Business Name]

Negative reviews response example

Hello [Reviewer’s Name], We apologize for the less than satisfactory experience you had with our [product/service]. It’s essential for us to maintain high standards, and we’re sorry that we did not meet your expectations this time. We’d like to learn more about your experience and find a way to make things right. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience caused, and we appreciate your feedback as it helps us improve and provide better service in the future. Sincerely, [Your Name] [Business Name]

How to report a Facebook review?

Sometimes you may receive fake negative reviews that affect your online reputation. Naturally, you have to deal with negative reviews as soon as possible. But, since you cannot outright delete them, you’ll have to report them for violating Facebook’s Community Standards :

  • Find the negative review in your ‘Reviews’ tab ;

report facebook review

  • Choose to receive notifications about the report and click ‘Submit’ ;

Here’s a brief video covering the entire process:

How to get new reviews for your Facebook business pages?

The fun part starts here: finding cool new ways to motivate your customers to leave you positive Facebook recommendations.

These are some of the strategies you can try out include:

  • Adding a physical ‘Review’ sign at your place of business— you can edit and place the official ‘ Facebook Review Us ‘ stickers anywhere from your counter to your tables, walls, shopping windows, or any other prominent sections of your premises;
  • Use the Facebook Wi-Fi feature— set up Facebook Wi-Fi in your business location to get more customer reviews, which will allow your visitors to hook up to your guest Wi-Fi for free once they check in to your Facebook business page and leave you a review;
  • Embed a digital ‘Review us on Facebook’ button— you can place this button anywhere from your homepage to your blog and social media sites;
  • Create a Facebook contest —you can always stage a discount contest for your customers, who will be able to participate if they leave you a Facebook review;
  • Asking your regular customers— you can always ask for a review outright, especially your regular visitors, which will be included to help you out. You can either ask them in person or send them an email such as this one, along with the promise of a discount:
“Thanks for stopping by again [customer name]”.  “Do you use Facebook? The reason I ask is that we have a Facebook Reviews section that we use to collect our customer’s comments. Would you be interested in posting one?”   Here is our link (link to Facebook reviews section) Thank you so much. [Your Name] [Your Company Name]

1. They increase your organic reach

Positive reviews and recommendations can help your business gain more visibility on Facebook, as they may appear in the Facebook Feeds of the reviewer’s friends or when someone asks for recommendations. This increased exposure can attract more potential customers.

How? When a customer recommends your bakery on Facebook, their friends might see the recommendation in their Feed, thus sparking interest in your products and driving more foot traffic to your bakery.

2. They boost your brand credibility

A collection of positive reviews and recommendations serves as  social proof , demonstrating that your business is reliable, trustworthy, and offers great experiences, which can influence potential customers to choose your products or services over your competitors.

FAQs about Facebook reviews

Yes, Facebook reviews still exist, but they have evolved into a new format called ‘ Facebook Recommendations ‘, which no longer uses the previous star-based system. Users now recommend (or not) a certain business or product and leave a text-based review. They also have the option to add various tags and relevant images. This new format allows for more context and encourages users to provide more valuable feedback for potential customers.

To see the reviews of your or other businesses, you will have to navigate to the official page and click on the ‘Reviews’ tab underneath the profile image. If the tab is not there, the ‘Reviews’ feature has to be activated through the page’s ‘Privacy’ section.

No, Facebook reviews are not private. When a user leaves a review on a business Page, it is publicly visible to anyone visiting said Page. This allows potential customers to read about the experiences of others, which can influence their decision to engage with the business.

As a business owner, you cannot directly delete Facebook Reviews left by users. However, you can report a review if it violates Facebook’s Community Standards or contains spam. Then, if Facebook determines the review is inappropriate, they may remove it. Alternatively, you can disable the ‘Reviews’ tab on your business Page, which will hide all reviews from your Page, but this will make it harder for potential customers to learn more about your business.

While you cannot directly remove a bad review on Facebook, you can take steps to address it. First, respond to the review professionally and empathetically, offering to address the issue and rectify the situation. If that doesn’t work and you believe the review is from a fake account, spam, or violates Facebook’s Community Standards, you can report it to Facebook for review.

How to write a review or recommendation on any Facebook business page

  • You can write a review on Facebook to help others make an informed decision about a business.
  • To leave a review on Facebook, you can either recommend or not recommend a business.
  • You can leave this recommendation directly on a Facebook business page.

If you've just been to a really great — or not so great — business, you probably want to tell someone about it. You could just post about it on social media, but that only goes to your friends. It would probably be more useful to let people who actually want the information know.

There are many ways to do that, but one way is to post on a business' Facebook page, if it has one. You don't have to leave a generic post on the page, and it's not the traditional star rating like you're used to either.

Facebook has changed their reviews to recommendations, which can include photos and tags in addition to text. Now, star ratings for a business are calculated by a combination of past reviews and customer recommendations.

Here's everything you need to know about Facebook recommendations.

How are Facebook recommendations different from reviews?

While they serve a similar purpose, there are a few key differences between recommendations and reviews.

First, Facebook reviews are visible to anyone on Facebook, while recommendations can be limited to just friends. Facebook reviews also have a star rating whilst recommendations do not.

What are the benefits of using Facebook recommendations?

When recommending a business, you can add photos to accompany your text and select tags to highlight key features about a business (like child-friendly or cozy atmosphere).

Additionally, if one of your Facebook friends recommends a business, it will appear first on that Facebook page as well as on your friend's timeline.

How to write a review on Facebook

1. Go to the Facebook page of the business you want to review.

2. Click the Reviews tab.

3. Underneath Do you recommend [Business Name]? click Yes or No .

4. Write your review about the business. Reviews must be at least 25 characters long.

5. In the Sharing section , select who will be able to see your review. You can choose just friends, or set it to public so that anyone can see it. When you're finished, click Post .

What are Facebook Reviews / Recommendations?

For years, Facebook business Pages featured traditional online reviews and ratings. This changed in 2018, when the social network rolled out a series of visual changes and features that included “Facebook Recommendations.”

With the update, Facebook followed the trends set by Netflix and YouTube by ditching the 5-star rating system in favor of Yes/No options. Now, a query field appears on a business Page’s “Recommendations and Reviews” section with the question: “Do you recommend (business name)?”

Users can answer by pressing the “Yes” or “No” button and can add further context to their recommendations with tags, photos, and more text.

As a local business Page owner, you will no longer see any star-based reviews coming into your Page. Customers will rate your business simply by choosing whether or not they recommend it.

How Do I See Facebook Reviews and Recommendations?

If you’re wondering how to see reviews on your Facebook business Page, simply go to your Page and click the Recommendations or Reviews tab found under your profile picture. (If you’re using Facebook Business Manager , you can follow the same procedures for Pages to which you have access.)

If you previously enabled online reviews on your Page, Recommendations have been automatically turned on. To make it easier to find specific Recommendations, you can apply a “most helpful” or “most recent” filter to sort all your Recommendations and ratings.

Are Facebook Recommendations Public?

All Facebook reviews and Recommendations are publicly displayed on your Page’s Reviews or Recommendations tab. They cannot be set to private.

What Happened to My Ratings?

If your business managed to compile a fair amount of Facebook reviews with high rating scores before Recommendations were rolled out, don’t worry: your ratings did not go away.

They are still taken into account for your overall rating, which is also still displayed on your Page. As for how Facebook calculates this, it’s a mixture of reviews based on the past 5-star rating system and the current Yes / No Recommendations.

How to Set Up Facebook Reviews

By default, Facebook reviews are activated when you create a Page. If, for some reason, it isn’t available when the Page is created, you can turn it on manually via the Manage Page section on the left side of the screen. To turn on Facebook reviews:

  • Go to your brand page.
  • Click on the “Settings” button on the Manage Page section.
  • A new window should appear. Click on the “Templates and Tabs” section.
  • Toggle the “Reviews” option to ON.

To make it easier for people to leave unsolicited feedback , you should make sure that people see the Reviews section on your page. You can change the order of the sections in this area through the “Templates and Tabs” section in the Page’s settings. Drag the dotted icon next to the section name to change the order.

a screenshot of the review page on the ReviewTrackers Facebook page

How Do I Respond to Facebook Reviews?

Facebook reviews and Recommendations appear like traditional posts in the Reviews section. This means you can respond to any review on a Page by commenting on it. You can also “like” or “love” a Recommendation.

An example of a Recommendation on Facebook and the business Page's response

Before you do so, make sure you’re responding using your brand’s Facebook account and not your personal profile.

Before typing a response, it’s important to learn how to respond to negative reviews as well as positive feedback.

According to research, 44.6% of consumers are more likely to visit a business if it responds to negative reviews. But don’t wait too long before typing out a response: 53.3% expect a response from a company within seven days.

The way your brand handles criticism or praise goes a long way towards brand success. Choosing the right words and taking feedback to heart can put your brand above the competition.

Can I Delete Facebook Reviews?

Currently, you can’t delete individual Facebook reviews and Recommendations from your page. If you don’t want reviews, the only option is to disable the entire feature. To do so:

  • Go to the “Settings” section of the Manage Pages tab.
  • Click on the “Templates and Tabs” button.
  • Next to the “Reviews” section, toggle the switch from On to Off.

Turning this off might not be the best idea because it removes all reviews, including the positive reviews your brand might have accumulated throughout the years. In many ways, a page with reviews is better off than one without any reviews at all. That feedback serves as valuable social proof for consumers, and they’ll be quick to dismiss a brand if it doesn’t contain any consumer feedback.

If you believe a Facebook review contains spammy content or doesn’t meet the terms of use and content guidelines, you can send a report to Facebook .

What Companies Should Know About Facebook Recommendations

Recommendations and reviews are geared towards making your brand more discoverable and trustworthy on Facebook.

According to the social network, having great Recommendations “may make your Page easier to find in Facebook search” — similar to how Google reviews can impact your local SEO performance.

Recommendations are also useful for understanding the customer experience. The updated interface encourages your customers to provide richer, more detailed feedback about their experiences.

After users make the choice of recommending your business or not, they will be asked to provide additional details using tags, text, and photos. Selecting a tag will allow common themes to emerge, making it easier for potential customers to see your business’s highlights.

How To Get Facebook Reviews

Asking for reviews for your Facebook Page doesn’t have to be difficult (or awkward).

If you have your customers’ contact information, you can send personalized SMS messages or emails asking for their feedback. (Make sure you get their permission to send messages to them before doing so).

For those physically visiting your locations, you can give them physical reminders like cards or use stickers and posters in high-traffic areas to make customers aware of your Facebook page.

Screenshot of SMS Ask Tool template

Based on our own research, the best time to start asking for reviews is around 2-3 p.m. or 6-7 p.m.

Regardless of when you ask for feedback, the important thing is to keep it short, sweet, and uncomplicated. Quickly tell people why you want their feedback and provide a short link that doesn’t require people to jump through multiple hoops before they can leave a Facebook review.

The Importance of Facebook Reviews

Facebook reviews, along with reviews on other business review sites , are important marketing assets for any brand. 92.4% of consumers use these reviews to guide their purchasing decisions. People need social proof to know if a product or service is worth the time, and more importantly, the investment.

On a popular site such as Facebook, reviews carry plenty of weight, and you need to use it to your advantage to improve the experience, attract more customers, and beat the competition.

How to Get Reviews on Facebook: The Ultimate Guide to Earning Facebook Reviews

Best Places to Work in PA logo

Reviews play a fundamental role in building trust with your audience and can ultimately influence their decision to buy. Since many people rely on Facebook for recommendations and reviews, you want to take advantage of this opportunity and help your business drive more leads to choose your company.

On this page, we’ll discuss how Facebook reviews impact businesses, how to enable reviews on your page, and how to get more reviews on your Facebook profile. If you need help managing your reviews, call us today at  888-601-5359  to speak with a strategist about our  review management services .

How Facebook reviews impact business

Facebook reviews impact your audience’s perception of your business.

The better the reviews you have, the more authentic and unbiased the perception people will have of your business.

And since people want to buy from companies they can trust, they use the opinions and experiences of others to help them determine who to buy from. Because of this, reviews have a lot of influence on purchasing behaviors.

If you want to make a positive impression on your audience, you must invest in obtaining and maintaining reviews on your profile.

Facebook reviews  matter to your business  because:

  • 12x more is the amount customers trust online reviews over product descriptions
  • 92% of consumers read online reviews to learn more about a business
  • 80% of consumers say online reviews have changed their minds about purchase

And since Facebook has recommendation mechanics built into their platform, you’ll be getting both social mentions and authority every time someone makes a mention.

Why ratings became recommendations on Facebook

A major reason why Facebook implemented this change is the hope that the new format will encourage users on the social network to write about their experiences with more detail.

Customers can be more honest in their recommendations since they don’t have to worry about giving the “correct” rating for a company. You’ll get less spammy recommendations as well since people can’t leave a one-star rating out of malice.

Recommendations are better than star ratings because they have a wider range of word-of-mouth travel on social media than traditional star ratings.

Extensive reviews provide users with more authentic and meaningful information and provide businesses with higher chances of gaining more customers and building online trust.

Recommendation ratings are based on how many people recommend or don’t recommend a business’s page. Facebook also takes pasting ratings into account when deciding on your score.

ratings how to get reviews on facebook

Unfortunately, Facebook doesn’t provide any more additional information on what the actual formula for the rating is other than that  only public recommendations  count towards the score.

Tags and audience settings

When a person selects yes or no for a recommendation, they have the option of commenting on what they would recommend about the company for yes, or what the company could improve on for no.

They also have the option of choosing their audience: “Public,” “Friends,” “Friends of Friends,” “Only me,” or “Custom,” which lets you select lists and tag users as well as choose anyone to exclude.

Often, recommendations also allow the user to select tags that they can use to mark their experience with your business.

Negative recommendation:

Positive recommendation:

Facebook implemented this change in hopes that the new format will encourage users on the social network to write about their experiences with more detail.

More extensive reviews provide users with more authentic and meaningful information and helps businesses address issues better and build trust with their customers.

How to get the reviews tabs to show up on Facebook business pages

Your reviews tab should be on by default for most page templates, but if your Facebook review page is not showing, here’s what you can do:

  • Go to your business page’s on Facebook
  • Click on “Settings” in the top right corner of your page
  • Go to the “Templates and Tabs” option in the left-hand column

From here, you can do two things:

Slide “Use default tabs” in the right-hand column to “On” Default tabs will make it so that your reviews tab is showing since your reviews are one of your default tabs.

You may not want to do that if you’ve made any changes to your tabs (such as switching a tab off or moving it around) since any changes you make to your tabs will automatically turn default tabs off.

If that’s the case, you can instead head down to your reviews tab and turn it on from there.

reviews tab settings how to get reviews on facebook

If the reviews tab doesn’t show at all in the right-hand column under the “Templates and Tabs” option, you may need to scroll to the bottom of the list and select “Add a Tab.” From there, find “Review” and select “Add Tab.”

How to monitor your Facebook reviews

Checking your Facebook reviews is a simple task, but an important one. It’s critical that you regularly monitor and respond to reviews, so your customers know that you actively listen to what they say about your business.

Once you have your reviews tab set up, you can check out the reviews you have from your company’s Facebook page by clicking on the “Reviews” tab in the left-hand navigation menu.

The reviews tab is where you can check your reviews and your recommendation rating. It’s also where users can head to make recommendations and respond to others.

How to report spammy or fake reviews on Facebook

Facebook lets you report false or spam recommendations that you may receive.

When you report a recommendation, you select a tag based on which  Facebook Community Standard  the review violates. Here are a few common reasons to review a review:

  • REcommendation not relevant

report recommendation how to get reviews on facebook

If you need to report a recommendation, follow these steps:

  • Head to the “Reviews” tab on your Facebook Business page
  • Find the recommendation post you want to report
  • Click the three dots in the top right corner of the post
  • Select “Find Support or Report Recommendation”
  • Choose the tag the unfair recommendation best fits
  • Hit “Send”

5 ways to encourage more reviews on Facebook

Once you have your recommendations enabled on Facebook, you’ll want to start encouraging more reviews from your customers.

To get authentic reviews, follow the guidelines you’re subject to with your business, whether it’s local guidelines or Facebook’s guidelines. You want people to give their honest opinion of their experience with your business, so your approach to obtaining reviews is critical.

Here are six ways to encourage more reviews on Facebook:

1. Make the Facebook recommendation process simple

Also, make sure that the process to make reviews is as simple as possible. The easier it is for your customers to make reviews, the more likely they are to finish the process.

Any time you encourage reviews like with email follow-ups or handouts, be sure to include links to your Facebook reviews tab (which can be found in the same section you enabled reviews). Don’t forget to include directions that explain how to leave recommendations.

2. Use email follow-ups

Email follow-ups  are one of the best ways to ask your customers for recommendations on Facebook.

Whenever someone makes a purchase or uses your services, you can send them a follow-up email asking them how their experience went.

If you’re a service business, you want your customer’s experience to be fresh in their minds, so send the email as soon as possible.

With ecommerce businesses, you want to give people a chance to try out your products and see if they like them, so wait a few days before sending your email so they have the chance to try them out.

Don’t forget to provide a link to your company’s Facebook review tab so your customers have easy access to writing their testimonials.

3. Use clear CTAs

Don’t be afraid to ask for recommendations.

Your customers will understand that you want to know how their experience went and what you can do to make it better, so you can ask for reviews.

The best way to ask is by using recommendation specific  calls to action (CTAs)  in your content.

When businesses ask for reviews, they should be direct and honest about what they expect from their audience, so when creating content for the purpose of reviews, tell your customers that you’d appreciate a review.

You can use a CTA like “Share your experience with us!” to encourage people to review their experience.

Don’t forget to include a link to your Facebook page on your website. Your customers will have an easy way to provide meaningful feedback about how their experience went with your company.

Customers will be more likely to share their experience if they can find previous recommendations easily.

Additionally, there may be instances where your customers will leave feedback about their experience with your business in comments instead of reviews. These comments offer you a good opportunity to thank your customers and ask them to provide that information in a review for future customers’ reference.

4. Encourage check-ins

With the Facebook app, users can go to a brick-and-mortar store’s Facebook page and check-in when they visit in person.

If your business has a physical location, enabling check-ins on your Facebook page can help you gather reviews, so encourage visitors to check-in and post a photo of themselves at your location.

check in how to get reviews on facebook

To enable check-ins:

  • Click on “Edit Page Info” on the top-right side of your Page (next to “Settings”)
  • Scroll down to the “Locations” section on the right-hand column
  • Check the box that says “Has an Address”
  • Type in the address of where you would like people to check-in
  • Scroll below the map that shows up after typing in your location
  • Check the box that says “Customers visit my business at my street address”

This last box enables both the map and your check-ins.

map check in how to get reviews on facebook

Here are some ways you can ask people to check-in when they visit your location:

  • Place a sign near your door encouraging users to check in to show others their experiences in-store
  • Add another sign near your register that also encourages check-ins
  • Include a CTA to your receipts asking for a review of their experience with a check-in
  • Place check-in CTAs on product labels and signs
  • Run ads with in-store only coupons
  • Install wall art or large art pieces that visitors want to take selfies with

These strategies encourage more people to check-in so they can review your business later.

5. Say thank you

Respond promptly to any reviews you get with a “thank you!” Responding to the recommendations you gather is one of the best methods in generating more reviews.

When you respond individually to recommendations, you have a conversation with your customers. You show that their experience matters to you and that you’re grateful for their recommendation. You’ll build relationships with your customers and show how much you value them as individuals.

When visitors to your Facebook page see these interactions, they’ll be encouraged to form relationships with your business and leave recommendations of their own.

Even when you get negative recommendations, thank the person for their input and apologize for anything that went wrong. Think about how you can implement their concerns and suggestions, and tell them what you plan to do to improve or resolve the situation.

Napoleon: The Director’s Cut Review

Ridley Scott’s extended vision of his historical epic starring Joaquin Phoenix adds almost an hour of footage but not much improvement.

facebook review not visible

Plot : “Napoleon: The Director’s Cut” stars Joaquin Phoenix as the French emperor and military leader. The film is a fresh and personal look at Napoleon’s origins and his swift, ruthless climb to emperor, viewed through the prism of his addictive and often volatile relationship with his wife and one true love, Josephine, played by Vanessa Kirby. The director’s cut delves deeper into Josephine’s origin story and features more extravagant costumes, new larger-than-life sets, and the previously unreleased Battle of Marengo scene. The audience is also given more details about Napoleon’s demise, from his attempted assassination to his failed invasion of Russia.

Review : When Ridley Scott’s Napoleon debuted in 2023, it received a less than enthusiastic welcome. While our own Chris Bumbray gave the film a positive score, he was the exception to the rule. The majority of critics and audiences found the film to be ambitious. Solid performances led by Joaquin Phoenix and Vanessa Kirby. Still, the running time and a lack of anything distinguishing the film from countless other historical biopics left Napoleon exiled when awards season came around. Ridley Scott consistently stated that he had a significantly longer cut of the film that would see the light of day on AppleTV+, but we heard nothing until now. AppleTV+ surprised everyone with the release of Napoleon: The Director’s Cut this week, complete with almost an hour of additional footage. Having seen the extended cut, I can say that while it makes some improvements with added focus on Vanessa Kirby’s Josephine, the rest of the added footage does little to alter the original reception the film received.

Ridley Scott is no stranger to director’s cuts with the new version of Napoleon , his eighth revision of one of his films, three of which were on Blade Runner alone. While his extended cut of Kingdom of Heaven has been proclaimed one of the definitive director’s cuts of all time, his cut of Napoleon does not fundamentally change the movie’s path, tone, or narrative. Most of Napoleon ‘s budget was spent on the vast battle sequences, which remained unchanged. The footage added predominantly includes quieter moments. Few of the changes are entirely new scenes, but a minute or two here and there, which continue scenes in the theatrical cut. Watching the film, I had the theatrical cut running simultaneously to spot the changes, and almost none of them represented wholly new sequences we had not seen before. This gives the perception that the cuts were made to help with the pacing rather than their relevance to the overall narrative of Napoleon .

The biggest change over the first hour and a half of the film is an earlier introduction for Josephine, showing how the death of her first husband and subsequent imprisonment lead to her willingness to be courted by Napoleon. These added moments are intercut with Napoleon’s rise to prominence and offer a better glimpse at how Josephine’s fall allowed her to cross paths with the future Emperor. The official synopsis calls out the addition of the Battle of Marengo, which amounts to thirty seconds, but it is a pretty brutal thirty seconds. Multiple scenes expand upon the Russians and their perception of the French emperor, additional time spent with Napoleon marching back from Moscow in freezing conditions, and the shocking losses he experiences on that journey, directly leading to his first exile. The film’s final act remains relatively intact, with only a few minutes of added footage from Napoleon’s conversation with Wellesley (Rupert Everett) and some moments in his second exile.

facebook review not visible

Looking at the two cuts of Napoleon , the Director’s Cut proves Vanessa Kirby’s talents as an actress. By giving additional insight into Josephine’s personality, her control over Napoleon makes more sense. Kirby explains that Ridley Scott should have centered the film on her character and made Napoleon a supporting player in his own story. As good of an actor as Joaquin Phoenix is, his portrayal of Napoleon has an aloof and boring quality that does not work in this film. One additional scene shows Napoleon grieving the death of Josephine by crawling into her bed and covering himself with her blanket. This quiet moment shows the depths of Napoleon’s love for Josephine. But this scene feels offset by an added moment of the Emperor using the toilet and finding it full of blood. One scene feels pertinent to the character’s pathos, while the other is unnecessary. A more perfect analysis of this film may not be possible

David Scarpa, who began researching Napoleon with a cursory knowledge of the man he was writing about, aimed to emulate Ridley Scott’s feature film debut, The Duellists, and Milos Forman’s Oscar-winning Amadeus . There are certainly parallels between the brash and childish Mozart performance from Tom Hulce and Joaquin Phoenix’s spoiled brat take on Napoleon. Still, where Mozart’s portrayal fits in the tone of Amadeus , Phoenix feels incongruous in this film. Ridley Scott is a master filmmaker, and the epic battle sequences in Napoleon remain as striking as his work in Kingdom of Heaven and Gladiator . Both films have a distinctiveness that makes them memorable films on their own, while Napoleon feels no different than countless movies that came before it. I had hoped there was excised footage from the battles to energize this film and give Ridley Scott a reason to justify turning this into a four-hour movie, but I am disappointed. There is no doubt about the quality of the production values or the cinematic scale of Napoleon , but that is no different than all of Ridley Scott’s aforementioned films.

While Ridley Scott initially said his director’s cut would run 250 minutes, the version released to AppleTV+ clocks in at 206 minutes. Whether that means there is another version of the film that could see the light of day or if this is the acclaimed filmmaker’s definitive vision, it is clear that Napoleon struggles with a weak screenplay that no amount of additional footage can rectify. My original take on the theatrical cut was a 6 out of 10, and this new cut bumps that score up just a single point thanks to the added layers to Vanessa Kirby’s performance. It does not redeem Joaquin Phoenix’s borderline-comedic performance or Ridley Scott’s overall lack of distinct vision for this film. Napoleon is a film that should have been a triumph thanks to the talent involved, but it is far too formulaic to make any lasting impression, something forty-eight additional minutes cannot alter.
