Stream It Or Skip It: ‘Still Time’ on Netflix, A Workaholic Fable Where Time Literally Flies
Where to stream:.
- Stream It Or Skip It
Stream It Or Skip It: ‘The Dead Don’t Die’ on Netflix, Jim Jarmusch’s Mega-Cast Lark of a Zombie Movie
Stream it or skip it: ‘anora’ on vod, sean baker’s wildly entertaining saga of a stripper trying to climb the socioeconomic strata, stream it or skip it: ‘ronny chieng: love to hate it’ on netflix, spreading aloha to the baby boomers, his parents included, stream it or skip it: ‘the simpsons: o c’mon all ye faithful’ on disney+, where a hypnotist comes to springfield, making homer think he’s santa.
How fitting that the protagonist of Still Time , a new Netflix original, be named Dante. For this character is about to experience his own personal inferno. For a calculating capitalist who sees time as money, hell is not other people. Hell is losing control of time.
STILL TIME : STREAM IT OR SKIP IT?
The Gist: Middle-aged Italian corporate drone Dante (Edoardo Leo) tends to tune out his family life and fast-forward mentally through the biggest moments of his life. But after one instance of particular negligence, some great cosmic force decides to humble him before the altar of time. Every few hours, Dante skips ahead a year. He hasn’t changed and isn’t aware of the time that has elapsed, but everyone else has gone on living as if Dante were just on autopilot. (So, basically, like he already is.) Each lurch forward brings him further from the people he loves … yet closer to the realization of what actually matters in life.
What Movies Will It Remind You Of?: It’s got vibes like Click , About Time , or Groundhog Day – any movie that features a male protagonist who comes to realize his lack of control over time and what it takes to make each moment really count.
Performance Worth Watching: Everything in Still Time is played pretty low-key and lifelike, so nothing really jumps out as capital-A “Acting.” Star Edoardo Leo as Dante deserves some flowers for having to pull off the tricky task of selling the magical realist gambit of the story with little more than his own incredulous reactions.
Memorable Dialogue: Late in the film, the meaning of the story clicks into place when Dante is finally spending some quality time with his daughter Galadriel (yes, named after the Lord of the Rings character – the movie gives good reason for the risible homage). “What is that I could do better?” he asks her, almost as if asking an employee for feedback. “More time, please,” Galadriel simply and devastatingly replies.
Sex and Skin: There’s a bit of frisky foreplay initiated by Alice (Barbara Ronchi) to get Dante in the mood, often featuring fun cultural references, but it never progresses to any frisky business.
Our Take: The Netflix logline for Still Time describes it as a “dramedy,” a sub-genre that usually implies a tonal balance that vacillates between belly laughs and belly-aches. Alessandro Aronadio’s film, co-written with Renato Sannio, mostly plods along without much strong mood or feeling beyond general situational tension and overall pleasantness. It’s a nice movie about nice people learning to get in touch with their inner niceness. Aronadio doesn’t do anything particularly novel with the time-bending concept nor the lessons it teaches the protagonist, but the film does not proclaim any grand ambitions beyond its resting state of gentle goodness. It’s the cinematic equivalent of chicken tenders – good enough because you know exactly what you’re getting, and that’s hard to mess up (or make a masterpiece of).
Our Call: STREAM IT! Still Time makes for a fine way to kill some time. It’s by no means a revolutionary take on the workaholic humbling tale, but it’s got a good heart and enough entertainment value to make for a worthwhile enough watch.

What's the Story?
In STILL TIME, a hapless man named Dante (Edoardo Leo) is a successful, upwardly mobile insurance man who never has time for Alice (Barbara Ronchi), his loving girlfriend, later wife and mother of his child. He wakes up on what he thinks is the day after his 40th birthday party to find that an entire year has passed and he remembers none of it. In the style of Groundhog Day , this continues to happen for years. There's no pattern as to when he will jump to the next year. Sometimes it's at wake-up time, sometimes he's tossing a ball for a puppy and the puppy comes back full-grown to indicate the year has passed. Sometimes he's looking in the mirror and when he takes a second glance he has a full-grown mustache. Each time, he seems surprised and someone fills him in on what a jerk he's been the entire year before. He learns that he ignored Alice, had a child whose name he doesn't know, neglected the child, divorced, got a promotion, had an affair, all of which he knows nothing about. Can he figure out how to stop this time jumping and realize what's important?
Is It Any Good?
Still Time offers many lovely moments that emphasize the importance of family, but it's a frustrating and at times tedious journey to get to the good stuff. Somehow, the only day in which Dante seems cognizant of his actions is on his birthday and that is the day on which he regrets all the mistakes he's told he made throughout the rest of the year and judges them as unacceptable. In other words, he's only a nice guy one day a year, which raises the question: Why is he such a bad guy 364 days of the year, oblivious, dismissive, and sneaky to the degree that his once-a-year nice self is embarrassed and rueful? Has this fate befallen him simply because he works too many hours at his job? That premise is hard to swallow.
And once he understands and accepts the routine he's been doomed to, why is he still shocked each birthday to see his daughter has grown bigger? Why doesn't he explain to his confused wife what he's going through, why he seems so perplexed every birthday, how he doesn't remember anything from the previous year? Why is he a nice, caring, decent guy only one day of the year? The movie offers no good answers, presenting an implausible turnaround that cures the problem.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about the depiction of magical situations in movies. Does this film do a good job of creating and maintaining an unrealistic premise? Does it pay off with a satisfying message?
Why do you think some people work too much? Do you think Dante wanted a big house, a fancy car, and wealth for his family, or for himself?
The movie suggests that Dante is a nice guy only one day a year, ignoring and abusing people in his life all the other days. How does this support or contradict the movie's final message?

Still Time Review – a funny reminder to appreciate life
Directed by Alessandro Aronadio, we review the 2023 Netflix film Still Time, which does not contain spoilers.
Still Time is a Netflix original film starring Edoardo Leo and Barbara Ronchi . The Italian comedy-drama follows a workaholic who never wants to take time off. When he starts time traveling to the next year every few hours, he misses crucial moments with his loved ones and realizes he should slow down and enjoy life.
Still Time Review and Plot Summary
The movie opens at a party where Dante meets his future girlfriend, Alice, when he confuses her with his current fiancée. The film cuts to Dante rushing through his day and fulfilling so many tasks that he is late for his surprise birthday party.
Dante conveys that he is constantly stressed and doesn’t notice how fast days are passing by. He wants to work a lot in the present to buy more time later. However, he wakes up the following day and discovers it is his next birthday. He also finds that his wife is pregnant. Later, he unknowingly travels through time again to find that his daughter is now a few months old.
READ: Best Netflix Movies of All Time
As Dante uncontrollably skips through years of his life, he realizes he’s missing out on life’s greatest moments. These include the growth of his daughter and his job promotion. He also learns about his deteriorating relationship with Alice. Dante must rush to repair what he broke, prove his love to Alice, and find satisfaction with life again.
Is the 2023 movie Still Time good?
Still Time lets viewers experience the shock and confusion with Dante as he keeps waking up in a new year. He is a hilarious, lovable character who reacts to these bizarre changes as anyone would. He gets confused by Alice’s pregnancy, thinking she has a swollen stomach, and gets scared when he feels the baby moving.
Dante’s comical moments continue when he jumps forward to find that he has a daughter, who he keeps confusing for a son. Since he keeps jumping through time, he has no idea what to do with his growing daughter. He even forgets she exists sometimes, which would be terrible in any other scenario. But in this film, his utter confusion is hysterical.
As funny as the film is, it also sends us a compelling message to take a step back. The feeling Dante has of time passing by exists because he never stops or takes a break. Despite some of his confusion being funny, there are emotional aspects that work well too. Dante forgets that he and Alice are in couples therapy. Alice resents him for never being with his daughter and preferring work over his family. We see the pain and frustration Dante feels because he doesn’t remember these mistakes.
Still Time is both heartfelt and heartbreaking, teaching us that life is short, so we must appreciate what we have.

Still Time is an Italian film directed by Alessandro Aronadio starring Edoardo Leo, Barbara Ronchi and Mario Sgueglia. An Italian film that starts out as a “romantic comedy”, and that threatens to dive into middle-aged drama and ends up turning it into Groundhog Day with a man trapped in a time he… can no longer remember.
