Whether you want to put your best foot forward applying for your dream job or you just need some writing help, we found the best resume writing services to get you that interview ASAP.

Some of what you'll need to include in your resume will depend on the industry you want to work in. While it can vary, employers will likely look at your education, work history and skills. We've combed through dozens of resume services looking at the most helpful features across a variety of needs. We looked especially closely at the number of custom templates, the amount of guidance the service offered, the ease of navigation and the robustness of the service's privacy policy. Resume star 2: pro cv designer.

Resume Star 2 isn't the most visually stunning resume design app for iOS, but it gets the job done. To use, tap each section of the resume, fill in your information and it will fill in a traditional template (you only get one layout). The app offers some example resumes you can start with and edit as needed, including job-specific ones for a: cashier, dental hygienist, receptionist, waitress, mechanic and senior manager.

You can add or delete any sections you like without needing to hit save every time you add information, and you can see your resume update as you go. The autosave feature makes it easy to toggle quickly between the different sections as well. At the end, you'll have a basic resume ready to go. The app's interface doesn't offer as much guidance about how to write your resume or what types of information to include. If you need extra help, tap the information icon in the bottom left and choose the Resume Writing Guide. This will open up a crash course on resume writing in your mobile browser. It also includes a job search feature.

The app collects payment via donations after you use the service. You don't have to pay if you don’t want to. The app connects to iCloud, and you can export your resume as a PDF to any location on your device(s). If you are happy with the service, you pay $25 for it. Resume Star 2 has a 4.8 out of 5 rating, and more than 1,800 ratings in the App Store . The first version, Resume Star: Pro CV Maker, which is the same except for the iCloud connection, had a 4.9-star rating and more than 16,000 reviews. The site does not collect personally identifiable information without user consent, which seems to make it one of the more secure options available.

Once you're finished, you can download your document for free as a PDF, which you can then save on your device or send via email or text.

On the downside, the app is ad-supported and ads for other resume creators do pop up, which can get confusing. The app also offers less guidance than some of the other services, which means it's not a great option if you're new to resumes. How we tested resume sites and services

When we evaluated the different resume templates and builders, we looked at how each site or app allowed you to create new resumes, browse templates or upload and edit existing resumes. We also looked at how easy or hard it would be to customize different templates and sections, how much guidance was available, how user-friendly it was to navigate, plus reading and understanding each company's privacy policies.

Some of our picks are free, some enlist the help of professional writers and some require a subscription or one-time payment. When it comes to premium or paid services, we evaluated how inclusive its packages were compared to basic or free versions. In many cases for the professional writing services, these paid tiers included more guidance and additional job search support like a cover letter and LinkedIn editing, suggested jobs to apply to and interview coaching.

Factors to consider when choosing a resume writing service

This was a key factor when compiling this list. Whether you're looking for a free service to boost your current resume or interested in professional editing services, there’s something for everyone’s price range.

Ease of use

When looking at each website, we looked at how easy it was to navigate, browse templates and add, edit or remove different sections. We also considered whether you can download and share your resume for free and in what format.

Customization options

Customization options were essential, as everyone's resume is going to look different. Having easy user control over your resume helps you create a resume that meets your industry's standards and showcases your professional experiences.

Privacy policies

Privacy policies were the final important factor to consider, as many of these are websites and apps that can collect and store your personal information. All of the services and websites included on this list have decent privacy settings, and we noted which ones have exceptionally clear use cases and account deletion policies.

The 6 Best Resume Review Services (plus which to AVOID)

man on laptop working on his resume

Are you looking for a professional to review your resume? We've created a shortlist of the best resume review services available online in 2024.

W hether you're looking for an expert resume coach to get you interviews at highly competitive companies, or you want more affordable resume help, you'll find what you need.

These are the best resume review services available right now:

#1 IGotAnOffer (Best if you're applying to highly competitive companies) #2 R/resume thread on Reddit (Best place for a free resume review) #3 TopResume (Best for including an ATS check) #4 The Muse (Best for new grads) #5 LinkedIn Resume Coaches (Best for accommodating broad range of industries) #6 MentorCruise (Best if you're looking for long-term mentoring)

We'll explain more about each one below, and we'll also reveal which resume services you should steer clear of.

Okay, let's get into it.

Click here to get 1-to-1 expert feedback on your resume from an ex-recruiter or interviewer

1. What is a resume review?

A resume review service enables you to get your resume looked over by a resume professional. They will offer you detailed suggestions on how you can improve it and better tailor it to the jobs you're applying for.

A professional resume review will usually include the following:

  • Suggestions to help you quantify your achievements
  • Advice on what areas /skills/achievements to focus more /less on
  • Suggestions on how to optimize for your target role or company
  • Ideas on how you can stand out if you're in a very competitive field
  • Corrections on spelling or grammar mistakes
  • How to improve formatting, style, and tone.
  • Advice on making your resume the right length
  • Applicant tracking system (ATS) keyword and formatting compatibility

With some resume review services, you upload your resume to their site and then receive written feedback on your resume usually within a few hours. Many of these are free, as the hope is that you'll then buy a resume-writing package.

However, there are some resume review services where you get your resume feedback in person, as part of a 1-hour feedback session. This allows for a deeper, two-way conversation about what you want to achieve with the resume and how to do it.

1.1 Resume Review vs. Resume Writing

Many people don't understand the difference between these services, and a Google search for term each brings almost identical results. It shouldn't, because resume review services and resume writing services serve distinct needs:

Resume Review Services: These focus on evaluating and enhancing your existing resume. With a resume review service, you submit your self-crafted resume, and the experts provide detailed feedback, suggesting improvements to fine-tune your document for success.

Resume Writing Services:   You provide them with your career history, accomplishments, and any relevant information, and they create a resume from scratch for you. These services are for people who want a professional-looking resume without the hassle of doing it themselves. As you'd expect, this comes with a higher cost - for a quality result you'll need to pay upwards of $500. For more budget services, expect a more generic end result that is less accurately tailored to your needs.

You'll need to make your own decision, but we believe that a resume review is usually a better option, for the following reasons:

  • as you're also putting some work in, it's a less expensive route to a strong resume
  • you end up with a resume that is 100% unique
  • you actually learn how to create a strong resume, so next time you won't need help

If you're still set on a resume writing service, then our recommendation would be Executive Drafts , as they have a lot of positive reviews on Reddit and other platforms, and have reasonable pricing options (we have no affiliation).

2. How much do resume review services cost?

The price of resume services can vary significantly, depending on the type of service you choose and the level of expertise you're looking for. Here's a breakdown of the typical costs you can expect:

Resume Review Services: These services, which focus on evaluating and improving your existing resume, are often the more budget-friendly option. Prices range from $0 to  ~$550, as you'll see in the list below. The price generally reflects the expertise of the person reviewing your resume, the time they spend on it, and how much two-way feedback is offered.

Resume Writing Services: If you opt for a resume writing service, where professionals create a new resume from scratch, the cost tends to be higher. On average, you can expect to pay anywhere from $100 to $1000, depending on the complexity of your career history and the expertise of the writer.

Additional Services: Some resume service providers offer add-on services, such as cover letter writing, LinkedIn profile optimization , or job interview coaching. These extras can increase the overall cost but may provide valuable support in your job search.

For a more detailed look at resume service prices see " Resume service costs: price comparison table ".

Okay, let's take a look at the best resume review services around right now.

3. Six best resume review services in 2023

One surprising thing we discovered is that there aren't actually that many good resume review services available. The resume market seems to be completely dominated by resume writing services, which have their place but, as mentioned above, serve a different need.

To find good resume review services you'll have to sift through a lot of resume writing services, and it can be hard to get lost in the noise. That's why we created this list.

Let's take a look.

#1. IGotAnOffer (Best if you're applying to top companies or competitive roles)

Igotanoffer resume review service

Pricing : $149 for a 1-hour resume review session. Format: 1-to-1 video call Reviews: 5.0 on Google , 4.96 rating on own site. Reviewer expertise: All resume coaches have been recruiters/interviewers at top companies (Google, McKinsey, etc) Satisfaction guarantee: 100% refund if you're not satisfied.

On IGotAnOffer you can book a 1h resume review session with resume coaches who have worked as recruiters or interviewers at top companies. It specializes in Tech, Consulting, or Finance, so if you're targeting a role in one of these industries, it's exactly what you need.

You can search by company, role, specialty, timezone, etc, and book a timeslot that suits you. There are well over 100 resume coaches on the platform, all vetted and highly qualified, so plenty to choose from.

Of course, $149 is still a significant investment so if you're going for a lower-paid or non-competitive role, you might prefer to try options 2 or 3 below.

#2. R/resume thread on Reddit (Best place for a free resume review)

Reddit resume page

Pricing : Free Format: online forum Reviews: not applicable Reviewer expertise: Varies Satisfaction guarantee: not applicable

It's technically not a resume "service". But if you want to get some different opinions on your resume without spending money, this resumes page on Reddit is a very useful place to go. Post it there (you may want to anonymize it first) and after a day or so you should have a few comments giving you ideas on how to improve it.

Of course, it's hard to tell if the people commenting really know what they're talking about, and sometimes the criticism could do with a bit more sugar-coating (!), but hey, it's free. Plus, you can gain a few tips and insights by browsing other people's resumes and the comments on those.

#3. TopResume (Best for including an ATS checker)

TopResume website

Pricing : Free Format: Emailed feedback Reviews: 4.1 on TrustPilot Reviewer expertise: Low Satisfaction guarantee: not applicable

As part of my research for this article, I tried some of the free resume review sites that seemed to be frequently recommended: ExecutiveDraft , TopResume , and Resume Worded .

While ResumeWorded uses 100% AI to give you an instant rating with feedback that is too generic to be very useful, I was impressed by both ExecutiveDraft and TopResume. Both came back within a few hours with some useful pointers that would have helped me take my resume from "weak" to "fair".

I've selected TopResume as the pick of the bunch because it gives the most detailed feedback breakdown and includes a ATS check which was interesting.

Is a free resume review from TopResume or anyone else going to help you generate a truly excellent resume? No, of course not. Nothing that valuable comes for free! But it's still a good option if you're on a budget and just looking for a few general pointers.

Click here to read our in-depth review on TopResume's paid resume writing service .

#4. The Muse (Best for new Grads)

Muse resume review service

Pricing : $139 (30 mins, 1 round of edits), $259 (45 mins, 2 rounds of edits),  $549 (60 mins, unlimited edits, top coach) Format: 1-to-1 video call Reviews: 4.1 on TrustPilot Reviewer expertise: Good quality, vetted resume coaches. Satisfaction guarantee: Yes, 80% or 50% refund depending on when you ask for it.

The Muse is a very well-established site offering a wide range of services including resume coaching. The Muse gets generally good reviews and we've included it as #2 on this list because its coaches are properly vetted and have real expertise. A browse of the resume coaches available reveals that many specialize in working with students or new graduates.

We also like that you can look through coaches' profiles and reviews, and choose the one that best matches your requirements. It's not super cheap, as you'd probably want to go for at least the $259 option to get enough talking time and 2 rounds of edits, but you can be pretty confident of a good outcome.

#5. LinkedIn Resume coaches (Best for accommodating a wide range of needs)

LinkedIn resume review coaches

Pricing : Huge variation, usually on request. Format: Usually 1-to-1 video call but can vary Reviews: Depends on which resume coach you choose Reviewer expertise: Varies Satisfaction guarantee: No

You probably don't think of LinkedIn as somewhere to go to when you're looking to buy a service. And in many ways, it's not very well set up for this. You have to message a coach rather than book them immediately, prices are often only available on request, etc. In other words, it's not a great user experience.

However, it's worth including in this list as a useful option due to the sheer range of recruiters, hiring managers, and resume coaches that you can get in touch with. Whatever industry, role, and location you're looking for, LinkedIn has pretty much got you covered.

(Tip: Add 'resume review' as a skill in the search bar to get people who will review your resume rather than offer to write it from scratch)

#6. MentorCruise (Best if you want a long-term resume /career mentor)

Mentor Cruise resume review

Pricing : Starts at $79 per 30 min session Format: 1-to-1 video call Reviews: 4.6 on TrustPilot Reviewer expertise: Good quality, vetted resume coaches. Satisfaction guarantee: No

There are some good resume coaches available on Mentor Cruise and at $79 for a 30-minute session, it's a good option if you're looking for some quick expert feedback without spending too much.

You can find coaches or "mentors" from a large range of top companies - Amazon, Zalando, DoorDash, to name a few - though bear in mind that the more prestigious the companies they've worked for, the more your mentor is likely to charge.

MentorCruise is set up as a longer-term, mentoring service. The idea is that you pay monthly for the right to a number of calls and communications with your coach/mentor. If that's what you're looking for, it's a solid option.

If you're just looking for a one-off resume review, you can still do that too but the UX is a bit clunky and it can be hard to find exactly what you're looking for.

4. Which resume services you should AVOID

As mentioned above, there is a lot of variation in the resume service market: there are some good services, but there are plenty of poor ones too.

A lot of people ask whether the Indeed resume review service is worth using, due to its relatively low price. We would NOT recommend Indeed if you're hoping for a considered, detailed evaluation, as we've seen reports from its reviewers that they get very little time to spend on your resume.

In general, be sure to avoid resume services that show any of these red flags:

Lack of Transparency: Avoid services that are not transparent about their pricing, processes, or the qualifications of their reviewers or writers. You should know exactly what you're paying for and who will be handling your resume. If not, you risk paying for a resume that's been written by someone completely unqualified.

Price is too low. Top-quality individual resume writers usually charge around $500 per resume or more. So if a site is charging you $150, you should know that your writer will not be a real expert. Likewise, you can find well-reviewed writers on sites like UpWork for $35 but don't expect the expertise that would help you get interviews at top companies.

Cookie-Cutter Templates: Steer clear of services that rely heavily on generic resume templates. Your resume should be tailored to your unique skills and experiences, not a one-size-fits-all solution.

Guaranteed Job Offers: Be cautious of services that promise guaranteed job offers or unrealistic outcomes. Job success depends on various factors, and no service can guarantee employment.

Inadequate Customer Support: Avoid services that provide poor or nonexistent customer support. Good communication and responsiveness are crucial, especially if you have questions or concerns.

No Revisions: A resume service that doesn't offer revisions or edits is one to avoid. Revisions are essential to fine-tune your resume to perfection. It's extremely unlikely that someone else can nail your resume at first time around without at least one opportunity for feedback.

Lack of Samples or Examples: Reputable services should have samples or examples of their work available for you to review. If they can't provide these, it's a red flag.

Overly High Prices: While quality comes at a price, avoid services that charge exorbitant fees without clear justifications. Don't assume that a high price is a guarantee of quality.

No Satisfaction Guarantee: Services that don't offer any form of satisfaction guarantee should be approached with caution. A guarantee demonstrates the service's confidence in its quality.

Unverified Reviews: Be wary of services with no or unverifiable customer reviews. Check sites like TrustPilot or Sitejabber to see real, independent customer reviews.

Hidden Fees: Ensure there are no hidden fees or additional charges that might surprise you after you've committed to the service.

5. Resume review FAQs

Hopefully, you've now got a pretty good idea of how you should go about getting help on your resume, but in case you've still got questions, let's answer a few more here.

5.1 How long does it take to receive feedback from a resume review service?

That really depends. Turnaround times vary a lot by service. Basic reviews might provide feedback within a few days, while more comprehensive reviews can take a week or longer. If you pay more you can usually get quicker results. On IGotAnOffer, you can usually book a resume review session for the next day.

5.2 Are online resume review services as effective as in-person services?

In our experience, yes. Online services provide access to experienced professionals who can offer valuable insights and feedback remotely. In-person services work for some people, particularly older candidates, but it naturally is more time-consuming for everyone involved and you end up paying for other costs such as room rental, transport time, etc.

5.3 Do resume review services guarantee job placement or interviews?

No resume review services can truly guarantee job offers or interviews. While they can enhance your resume's quality, job success depends on various factors, such as your skills, experience, and the job market. Be cautious of services that make unrealistic guarantees.

That said, using a good resume review service should result in a lot more interview invitations. To properly take advantage of this, you might want to consider interview coaching: see our list of the best interview coaching services across different categories. If you're considering doing mock interviews, take a look at our deep dive, "What is a Mock Interview" and our list of the best mock interview sites if you're looking for options.

5.4. Are there any good free resources available I can use to write my resume?

Yes, lots. If you're still at the writing stage, use our resume guides for tips, templates, and plenty of examples of what you should aim for.

  • How to write a tech resume
  • How to write a consulting resume

  • Teal’s Resume Builder offers an analysis score and suggestions to optimize your resume based on best practices and gaps.

What are resume review services?

A review service offers feedback on your current resume’s format and content. The best ones offer personalized, actionable advice on achieving a polished resume for today’s competitive job market.

As artificial intelligence advances, some review services have started to incorporate AI. These give faster results, though sometimes less personal. Artificial intelligence may be more helpful in crafting your resume, enabling you to generate content with data gleaned from a data set. Additionally, many companies use applicant tracking systems (ATS) to screen resumes, so it's crucial to ensure your resume is keyword-optimized and ATS-ready to improve your chances of passing through the modern hiring world's screening process.

To understand how AI can help create, review, and optimize a resume, check out this post on the best AI resume builders .

How resume review services work

Online resume services prompt you to upload your resume, wait for feedback, and adjust your resume on your own. If you haven’t brushed off your resume in the past six months, it is time! Once your resume is up-to-date, pick the best resume review service for your budget, timeline, career goals, and personal preferences.

Pros of resume review

The biggest benefit to a resume review service is insight to improving your resume. Your resume will show how resumes should look and perform for today’s online job search. You’ll get advice that can guide a self-directed resume revamp . With helpful feedback, you can make an informed choice about improving your resume on your own or paying for help. Remember, it's crucial you're satisfied with the final resume. After all, it's a reflection of you. You can typically ask for revisions if needed.

Cons of resume reviews

Resume reviews require you to pay for each resume version you want reviewed. However, best practice is to tailor each resume to a specific job. So, you're still on your own for that tailoring process unless you use a resume builder that can provide keyword recommendations based on the job description, like Teal.

While general resume feedback is still valuable, proceed with caution before signing up for every free resume review. Resume writing services often use free reviews to gather your information and upsell you on a pricier package.

What makes the best resume review service?

The best software and service reviews are written by people who know the industry and have used the tools themselves. As a certified resume writer who has worked in the SaaS resume builder space, Caitlin Proctor met Teal's SaaS review criteria. Teal approached her to create this comprehensive review of the best options to receive a resume review.  Free versions of each of the tools listed have been tested by Caitlin. Here's what she had to say about her experience testing resume review services and tools:

Because “best” is subjective, I considered these factors for my list below:

  • Who is reviewing your resume? What are their qualifications?
  • How long do you have to wait for results?
  • How much does it cost?
  • Do people find the feedback valuable?
  • What action do the reviews recommend?

In my experience, people are looking for useful information as soon as possible for as little money as possible. This article discusses online services that offer resume reviews, but there are two actions you should take before exploring these options:

  • Your resume needs to be up-to-date with your most recent job experience. Your resume review won’t be accurate otherwise.
  • Consult your personal and professional network for introductions to recruiters, hiring managers, or professional resume writers. This is your best option for valuable feedback, as a personal referral is most likely to spend more time reviewing your resume. Individual professionals can be hard to find, as they don’t have the advertising and marketing budgets that the best resume writing services do. Ask your network for resume review recommendations.

Now that you better understand your options for improving your resume, here is my list of the best resume review options:

6 best resume review services

ZipJob website homepage

ZipJob offers a professional resume writing service which provides job seekers with a professionally written resume with tailored industry-specific content and expertise in hiring trends. To promote that service, they also offer a free resume review.

After uploading my resume to ZipJob, the resume writing service company sent me a link to my resume review within 24 hours. My report from “Certified Resume Expert” Judy Klein at ZipJob included these sections:

  • Design, Structure, and Formatting
  • Language and Writing
  • Resume Scanning Software Test
  • Recommendation

The recommendation, as expected, was to buy a resume writing package from ZipJob to improve my resume. The other sections detailed how I could tackle updating my resume on my own. There were specific examples relevant to my resume submission, although the advice did not pull from my resume’s bullet points.

Ladders is a job search engine geared toward executive-level candidates. Ladders offers various resume services, including an automated review in a matter of minutes.

My Ladders review provided resume feedback for two categories:

  • Style and Formatting

The report I received was fairly accurate, although it did flag “images and elements” as problematic when my submission did not include anything more complex than a bullet point.

It gave checkmarks to many elements of strong executive resumes, including length, professional headline, punctuation consistency, avoiding first person language, and using reverse-chronological resume order for my experience.

3. Resumeble

Resumeble homepage

Resumeble is a resume writing company with writers across more than 80 industries to review and rewrite resumes. They offer a free 48-hour resume review to help promote their resume writing services. The company employs professional writers to review and rewrite resumes, ensuring each document is tailored to the client's needs and optimized for keyword placement.

My free resumeble resume review report hit my inbox within one business day. The report included an overall score as well as scores for brevity, impact, and depth. There were notes on “industries that suit you best,” my file size, and my contact information pulled directly from my resume.

The analysis included these sections:

  • Visual presentation
  • Organization and branding

The report suggested I simplify my writing, make my career summary more like a sales pitch, and avoid unused white spaces on my document. This is good, if generic, advice. Writing can always be simplified and summaries can always be more like a sales pitch. Joan, “Resume Analyst,” recommended I buy a professional resume rewrite

4. TopResume

TopResume homepage

TopResume offers a professional resume writing service, which can provide a professionally written resume with tailored industry-specific content and expertise in hiring trends. TopResume's resume analysis was similar to the other resume critiques above.

The review included these sections:

  • What the tracking system thinks of your resume
  • Visual presentation and organization
  • Resume writing
  • Digital readiness
  • Recommendation and next steps

I got my TopResume review within 24 hours of uploading my resume. “TopResume Resume Expert” Deborah Campbell accurately described my resume as “not polished,” and suggested I cut down on my use of bullet points.

The review pulled examples from my resume to call out “doer” versus “achiever” language, which is common advice associated with reviews of the brand online. Interestingly, this was the only service that guessed I had zero years of experience from my resume detailing five years of experience. This is either a huge oversight or a glitch in the automated review process. Unsurprisingly, TopResume recommended buying a professionally written resume from its service.

  • Using “achiever” language is good advice for resumes

5. ChatGPT for resume feedback

I used the prompt: “You are an expert resume reviewer. You are familiar with the job of a professional writer and know what a resume needs to include to land a new job in the writing industry. Based on the resume below, what are three actionable tips for me to improve my resume to help me land more interviews?”

I got a detailed response, but here are the three actionable tips:

  • Quantify achievements with specific metrics
  • Tailor your skills Section to the job description
  • Enhance the presentation of your work experience

ChatGPT can also provide insights into various resume services, highlighting the benefits of hiring professional resume services to ensure your resume stands out to recruiters and passes resume screening software.

While true, my example resume did a good job quantifying the achievements. I did not provide a job description. As ChatGPT knows, my skills are tailored to a specific role already.

The third tip was both accurate and actionable; my resume was a plain text document with no more formatting than an essay. ChatGPT recommended adding an introductory statement, also known as a professional summary or resume summary , and adding key achievements. My resume submission did include these elements, so this advice was confusing. There were no tips on how to improve the layout of my resume.

ChatGPT benefits

  • Quickest response time
  • Conversational with the option to ask for more details or clarification
  • Generally good advice

Instant feedback

Includes a free plan. Paid subscriptions start at $20 per month.

6. Reddit for resume feedback

Reddit is an online forum with subsections for various topics. The “r/resumes” subreddit has more than a million members.

There is a regular flow of people posting their resumes and people offering feedback. Reddit users can also provide feedback on various resume services. If you post your resume here, you can crowdsource your review for free, and you may get responses from people who have solved similar resume challenges or work in your field.

However, you may also get no or low-quality responses and risk not knowing who is offering feedback, making it difficult to evaluate the usefulness. This option is less discrete than other options, as someone may be able to identify you from your information. If you go this route, I recommend posting a version of your resume that omits your identifying information.

Reddit resume feedback benefits

  • Advice from real people
  • Feedback within minutes or hours
  • Addresses specific concerns with your resume

Positive r/Resumes review

In my opinion, these options are all imperfect. You will have to compromise on time, budget, or the quality of the feedback. You will be marketed to, possibly relentlessly, whether or not your resume warrants that action. The advice might be irrelevant or too broad for you. You still have to learn how to incorporate it effectively.

How to use a resume builder to review and update your resume

There is an alternative to getting feedback and working with a resume writing service: choose from one of the best resume apps . AI resume builders have become a useful option for optimizing not only one resume, but dozens of resume versions to tailor to each job. Here's a breakdown of how I used Teal:

Using Teal’s AI Resume Builder, I was able to get a free analysis of my resume and much more. This tool combines real-time review with an AI Match Score to provide valuable insights into improving your resume.

Teal Matching Mode finds relevant keywords in the job description

It works by parsing your resume and instantly identifying if you have all the information you need on a resume. Additionally, it ensures your resume is keyword-optimized and ATS-ready, which is crucial for passing through applicant tracking systems used by employers to screen resumes.

As a reviewer and builder in one resume app, I could adjust my resume’s format quickly. Just by uploading my text document, the information looked ten times better on the screen. I already knew my resume’s format needed to change; this was the only option on my list that actually took that action for me.

Before Teal:

Resume before using Teal

After Teal:

Resume after using Teal

After uploading my resume, Teal’s AI Resume Builder analyzed my resume and suggested how to make it more appealing to hiring managers with a resume score.

My initial score was 71%. As I incorporated the first suggestion to add in a location, my score updated to 75%—instant gratification! While some review services offer a score, you often cannot update your resume directly within the platform to see if your score improves.

Teal Match Score recommends resume updates

After implementing the suggestions from the resume analysis, I used Teal’s matching mode to compare my resume to a job description. I could drop a link to a job posting and Teal immediately gave me a “Match Score” based on how closely my resume aligned with the job description.

I got a low score, which makes sense as I compared my writer’s resume to a marketing manager job description. Teal provided a breakdown of which hard and soft skills were missing from my resume, that aligned most with the job description.

How does Teal’s resume builder compare?

As a standalone analysis, Teal’s resume checker is similar to the reports I got from ChatGPT, Ladders, ZipJob, and Resumeble. However, the ability to review and improve a resume simultaneously is a feature no other service offers.

Apart from Teal, ChatGPT was the only review that called out the need to tailor my resume to a job posting. However, Teal’s resume builder addresses that with their resume Matching Mode feature.

Choose the right resume review service

Picking the right service to review your resume is tricky, but knowing what each one offers can help you decide. Some services give quick but broad feedback, while others take more time but start updating your resume for you. Understand what you are looking for in a resume review service before buying.

Some people want a quick confidence boost. Others are looking to update their outdated resume before starting a job search. Lastly, many job seekers need to tailor their resume to a few different jobs.

Teal’s free resume review tool stands out because it uses AI to give real-time tips and helps you improve your resume right away. Having reviewed and written many resumes, I find Teal's tool very helpful. Ultimately, the best resume review service depends on your needs and budget.

Why do you need an ATS resume?

Most companies today use Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) to filter resumes quickly. If your resume isn’t optimized for the ATS, it might not get noticed by recruiters, even if you’re highly qualified.

Just like a website needs to be optimized for Google, your resume needs to be optimized for the ATS.

An optimized resume focuses on the skills, experience, and qualifications that are most relevant to the job you’re applying to. It’s also formatted correctly so the ATS can read it.

Use Jobscan’s resume review tool to create an ATS-friendly resume that will impress hiring managers and get more job interviews!

Applicant tracking systems handle different file types in unique ways (.doc, .pdf, etc.). Discover if your resume’s file format is optimized for ATS compatibility.

Not all fonts are ATS-friendly, which could lead to your resume being overlooked when a hiring manager conducts an ATS search.

ATS relies on clear section headings to categorize your information. Unconventional headings could cause critical errors.

Proper date formatting ensures the ATS accurately calculates your work experience, which is vital for hiring decisions.

An ATS may miss parts of your resume if improperly formatted. We’ll confirm that everything is fully readable.

We’ll identify weak or ambiguous language and suggest stronger, more effective word choice for a clear and impactful message.

ATS can’t read images. Our scanner ensures all your content is in text form for accurate parsing.

Some table formats can confuse ATS software. We check your resume to avoid such issues.
