Certain hobbies such as photography are very expensive. Hobbies like gardening require hard physical work. Reading requires some serious intellectual exercise.

My hobby is stamp collecting. Every country in the modern world issues stamps off and on. Stamps are used to commemorate the birthday of renowned personalities of the nation, to mark some important events, and so on others occasions.

            Stamps are of different colors, sizes, and designs. They contain pictures of birds, persons, animals, plants, factories, etc. They mention their fiscal value and sometimes dates, months, and years.

            There are several philately societies concerned with the activity of stamp collecting. I’m a member of one such society known as the Indian Philately Society.

            I have about five thousand postage stamps. I have arranged them in albums according to the countries belonging to different continents. I have also made a list of stamps of different kinds such as scenery, birds, animals, people, scientific inventions, and discoveries, those relating to historical and geographical spheres, etc. I’m happy with my collection of stamps and very proud of them too.

 I believe that sports play an important role in the physical and mental development of an individual and everyone should participate in sports in order to be healthy and physically fit. I consider cycling as my favorite pastime and this sport is very important to me. I believe that cycling can be regarded as one of my qualities as I have participated in different competitions and in certain cases, I achieved a lot.

Cycling can be considered as my pastime, but I do cycling in order to be physically fit. Furthermore, I believe in the fact that cycling helps me a lot to overcome certain personal challenges that are associated with my life. Cycling energizes a lot and vitalizes the entire body and mind.

I believe that after cycling one can concentrate more on the studies and that is the reason why I have regarded cycling as one of the qualities. Lance Armstrong is my sporting hero and I have actually learned a lot from Lance Armstrong. This inspirational personality has actually developed my interest in cycling.

Just two hours of cycling can easily nourish your mind and it can have certain positive effects on your soul as well. Cycling can easily be related to my personal attributes and it gives a soothing effect to my entire personality and my overall outlook.

I know the danger so I can avoid it. Also, I do not have to go deep into the jungle to learn about the tiger. I can read all about it in a book. Books provide the readers with so much information and facts. They have certainly helped me in my daily life. I am better equipped to cope with living. Otherwise, I would go about ignorantly learning things the hard way. Reading helps me in many ways. My general knowledge has increased. I participated and won many quiz contests, science contests with the help of my hobby. It improves my grammar and vocabulary. My hobby helps me in my studies also. I always get distinctions in my subjects. So I continue to read. Besides being more informed about the world, I also spend my time profitably. It is indeed a good hobby.

A hobby is an interesting thing. It gives great joy. It makes life lively. It is something done in spare time. It is not done for money.

Kite-flying is my hobby. I like it very much. I have a good collection of kites. There are kites of many shapes and sizes. They are of many colors.

Kites are made of thin paper and bamboo strips, A special string is used in flying kites it is a popular hobby. Kite-flying matches are held at the sea beach.

On Sundays, I fly kites. I do it from the top roof of my house. It is very delightful to see kites flying in the clear, blue sky. It soothes our eyes.

Sometimes I go to the riverfront with my friends. There we enjoy kite-flying. Many elderly people also come there. They are skilled kite-fliers.

Gardening is my other hobby. There is a beautiful garden in my house. I have divided this garden into two parts.

In one part I grow flowers of different varieties. I look after the plants and water them daily.

I keep the spot neat and clean. I have four plants of tomatoes in any garden. Daily I pluck two or three tomatoes and eat them raw. They are very tasty.

My garden is very useful to me. I use my pocket money for hobbies.

I also like to sing and dance, but everyone can’t pursue the same hobby to the same extent. I cannot find so much pleasure out of singing and dancing as I do from gardening, photography, and other pastimes that I have already mentioned. Different tastes are the basis of all of them. My hobby is a very useful pursuit and it not only delights me, but it delights many others also.

Then there are books written by stalwarts like Jiddu Krishnamurty, Sri Aurobindo, S. Radhakrishnan, etc. which have filled me with hope and pleasure. These great thinker-philosophers have been successfully redeeming my faith in mankind. I have the same feeling when I read about everyday incidents of communal harmony and religious tolerance I feel proud of my country when I read about young people who have achieved great heights in fields of science, management, arts, etc.

Reading besides providing emotional satisfaction, also gives valuable information about people, places, and objects. It is through books that I have visited many foreign countries, traveled in spaceships, had conversations,s and gained insight into the thoughts of the world leaders.

Indeed reading for me is more than a hobby. it is a passion, that I can never leave.

If I were to pick one favourite hobby of mine out of the many I have, I will definitely pick gardening. I developed a taste for dancing when I was very young. My Hobby- My Favourite Pass-time Activities

I have several hobbies, but the one that makes me the happiest and gives a lot of mental freshness is reading storybooks. I love to read adventure stories and stories on animals and science fiction. Some of my favourite storybooks are Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe, The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells, The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling, The Adventures of Robin Hood by Howard Pyle, and Man-Eaters of Kumaon by Jim Corbett. I am now looking forward to reading more books especially, Moby Dick by Herman Melville and fiction written by Ruskin Bond. Whenever I get some leisure time I read a book and that’s why exam breaks are my favourite. 

I have another hobby- making recycled toys and origami. I use old, broken toy parts to make miniature aeroplanes and cars and watch a lot of origami videos on Youtube to make my own paper toys and craft items. I also like to write about my toys and origami items on my blog that my mother helped me to create two years ago. I keep doing these two activities- reading storybooks and making craft items in my free times alternatively so that I never get bored. In fact, my hobbies give wings to my imagination!

My aim in life is to become a globetrotter. And in the pages of the storybooks, I already get to visualize many beautiful places. I wish to travel a lot someday and write down my experiences in a blog. For that, I think my hobby of reading storybooks is going to help me significantly. There is no end to the kinds of hobbies. Stamp collecting seems to be one of the most popular and universally practiced hobbies. Students derive great pleasure from it. Autograph collecting is another favorite. It provides opportunities to meet great people. It also helps people to cast off their shyness and approach great men. However, once when I approached a great dramatist to get this autograph, he wrote in my autograph book – getting autographs is a sign of adolescence. I felt so flushed, I have never again asked anyone for his autograph. Fishing is yet another on popular hobby. Nevertheless, it is a hobby essentially of the reflective or imaginative mind. One can sit for hours near a tank or a rivulet, with rod or line in hand, lost in the paradise of one’s own creation. Rambling in the countryside is a very refreshing pursuit. It helps to restore man’s ties with nature, which stand almost snapped. Besides, it can prove highly educational. Someone with well-developed creative faculties can make decorative pieces with the odd knick-knack available in the house. One of my friends has made the Minar-a-Pakistan purely from empty penicillin vials. Another one makes beautiful decorative wall plates with empty cigarette packets. Then there are gardening, horse-riding, reading favorite authors, photography, painting, music coin or insect collecting, hitch-hiking and so on. In fact, hobbies can be multiplied and infinitum.

Some of the hobbies can be quite ridiculous too. One of my friends has the hobby of collecting discarded tins and bus cartons, and empty bottles. Another one is interested in collecting the small confectionery wrappings. Still another one’s hobby is to collect a variety of cigars. Great men too have hobbies. They derive considerable personal pleasure from their pursuits but their hobbies are motivated by some other consideration too. A politician may turn to a science laboratory or a priest may take to dramatics purely for relaxation and still produce remarkable results.

A few basic principles ought to be observed in the selection of hobbies. A hobby should of course be an absorbing source of pleasure. But it should be pursued as a hobby only. It should not be allowed to become a passion or an obsession. Nor should it be allowed to interfere in one’s professional life. Secondly, it should be within one’s means. It should not be expensive that it starts draining one’s financial resources. Photography and record – collecting have become luxuries. If one can afford them. They are highly satisfying. But there can be equally satisfying inexpensive hobbies to-reading, writing or painting, for example. Painting or writing can even be made a source of income. Thirdly, hobbies should not be absurd, idle pursuits. They should serve some useful purpose. There is palmistry, a fascinating and educational study. There is gardening to provide physical exercise as well as fresh vegetables and colourful flowers. Finally, hobbies are purely personal affairs. They should not be allowed to distract one from one’s domestic and social obligations.

Hobbies are very popular in the west. It is a common saying that Every Englishman rides a hobbyhorse. But Pakistanis do not fully realise the importance and advantage of such a pursuit. Our most popular hobby seems to be gossiping. Ladies, in particular, hold coffee-cum-mud flinging sessions in the afternoon. How light and relaxed they feel after a two-hour long character dissection of their neighbours. One who is strained in his professional life feels the need of relaxation. Since many of us do not take their jobs seriously, they are mostly in a state of idle relaxation.

A hobby is work which a person does with much satisfaction and amusement. It is a kind of recreation, a shadow from the scorching beam of the sun and also getting fruit from it. I have been interested in gardening since my childhood. I like to see the green velvety grass, different colours of flowers and beautiful plants. So, I have selected a piece of land in my house and planted different kinds of flowers. I have planted a red rose, yellow and black rose plants and have arranged them one after another. The flowers of -Night Queen”, “Jasmine” and “King of the day” have filled the atmosphere with attractive fragrance. In the evening my family spend their time in the garden. I have also planted Guava and Neem trees, which give shade from the scorching beam and also get fruit from it. Routine work makes us monotonous. To break it we often look for interesting and exciting things to do. Hobbies are the best way to divert attention side by side with work. Once I feel that I have begun to sing perfectly I tape my own voice. When I listen to the recording I listen objectively and try to locate my faults in singing. This helps me to improve on my singing and I find that also helps me to use my talent to my advantage.

Whenever I go to a party, my friends persuade me to sing. Once I begin, the party livens up, people join in and the place is filled with the sound of music. I feel proud of myself and my friends also praise me because they feel that I become the life of the party. I play the guitar and sing when we go on a picnic or when I have a free period in school.

My hobby makes me happy and also brings joy to all my relatives and friends. It is necessary that everybody must have some hobby. It educates man, gives him pleasure, and helps him to utilize his free time fruitfully. If a person has no hobby, his spare time will turn him into a useless, irritated and restless person. “An idle mind is a devil’s workshop”. 5. My Hobby Essay – Playing Guitar (300 words)

Whenever people ask me regarding my hobby, I always pause and think for a moment. Even though I like playing all the instruments, my hobby is playing guitar.

When I was 6 years old I suddenly developed a liking for music. I started creating tunes and melodies by beating my desks which sounded like I was playing bongos. I was pretty good at it too. Whenever guests used to come at our place they would request me to play some melody on my dining table as they thought I was very good at it. Of course, in childhood I would get annoyed because playing music was something I wanted to keep to myself.

As I grew up, my hobby developed into playing guitars after my aunt came from Florida and got me a guitar. Now all my time was devoted to learning guitar strings and playing screeching music that would make your ears bleed. But soon, after a lot of practice and perseverance I was able to get hands on learning of guitar strings.   Playing guitar has taught me many things, but the most important thing it has taught me is that the more you play it, the better you become at it. I have hurt my finger with guitar chords many times. Practicing made me learn different notes and now I can play chords such as AM, C, D, G, AM7, CMAJ7 and many more.

Playing guitar gives me the refuge from thinking too much about outside world. It helps me stay calm in the world of chaos. The best thing about it is that I can recreate any tune I want to, which makes me feel very creative and happy that my hobby has developed into a worthwhile talent. i hope that soon I am able to learn other musical instruments as well.

6. My Hobby Essay – Cooking (300 words)

My hobbies have always changed over the time. At one point in my life, I used to paint in my free time. As I grew up, I started cooking as a hobby. I still remember the recipes that I used to download from the internet and work on them with patience. However, I always ended up with burnt pies or undercooked pizza doughs. It was hilarious for my family to see me trying and failing miserably. However, one day I decided to follow my mother’s cooking recipe. I was able to create the dish perfectly then. The happiness I got was priceless so I decided that from that day onwards, I will cook whenever I have free time in my schedule.

From there on, I cook different recipes every day. From lasagna to baked broccoli— I have successfully tried all the recipes. I have realized over the time that cooking is a stress buster and an energy booster. It feels so good after a long hard day at kitchen to finally serve food to your family or guests. Of course, I don’t do it professionally, it is merely a hobby for me. But the joy I receive when I create food from new recipes or invent my own kind of cuisine by mixing up 2 or 3 recipes is beyond price.

One of the best things I like about cooking is that I can experiment on food. I don’t enjoy cooking as a daily chore, but it’s something that I do as a hobby. I love the sound of patties in hot oil, sizzling as they are being fried. I enjoy cutting the colorfully exotic vegetables. The smell of spices and different flavor oozing from my kitchen excite me and make me feel like I am doing something worthwhile. I love cooking as a hobby and it makes me happy that I have learnt it so early in my age.

7. My Hobby Essay – Writing (300 words)

People think a hobby is something you do that you are really good at, but for me it’s different. My hobby is writing and I have been doing it since the age of 5. After coming home from school I would sit at some corner of the house and write about my day. Of course, I did not realize it at that time that I love and enjoy writing. I merely thought that I was penning down my thoughts.

Now just to be clear, I was not good at it. I couldn’t find the words to explain my day. There were a lot of spelling and grammar mistakes and the list goes on. I quickly gained a lot of audience as even though I didn’t write well, I included funny tidbits of my daily life in my blogs.

Soon I realized that there are some things that you cannot post online, so I diverted back to writing a diary every day. However, after doing this as a hobby for a very long time I have now become a very good writer. I can create my own poems and literature pieces. Over my lifetime, I have read over 2000 books. I don’t focus on a particular genre; I just care about the words written inside that book. One of the best things about reading as a hobby is the smell of new books. I feel like I am addicted to the smell of pages and the sound of a crisp page turning as I get access to the new chapter of the book.

There are many reasons why I enjoy reading books so much. One of the top reasons is that I love travelling, and since I don’t afford travelling so often, I can travel from the Mediterranean islands to the beaches of Florida, from the 16 th Century to the 18 th Century, all through my books. I can live the lives of lords and ladies, and even see the world through the eyes of prince and princesses. A book seems like the most private thing and I feel like a whole new being after reading a book.

Another reason why I love reading so much is that my mind feels fresh after I read the books. I get a lot of information that others are unaware of, which makes me ready to face any challenges of life.

My father realized my passion in an early age and got me a membership to my city’s library. I now visit the library every week, sometimes even twice a week to borrow my favorite books and read, read and read! I know that hobbies are only considered a way of passing time, but I can safely say that my hobby has actually become my passion.

10. My Hobby Essay – Painting and Drawing (500 words)

There comes a time in everybody’s life when they are feeling at a loss for words. There are moments when people want to communicate their feelings but can’t find the words to explain those feelings. At those times, painting or drawing is the perfect way to communicate your feelings to the world. My hobby is drawing and painting. There is nothing more in the world that I enjoy more than drawing, painting and filling colors in the sky that I drew up myself.

I developed this hobby a few years ago after we were assigned to paint a picture book for our summer vacation holidays. Naturally, I thought I am not good at painting but as the days passed I practiced and became better at it. Colors, lines and the strokes of paint brushes made me feel like I am doing something great. I started exploring painting and drawing more and creating paintings on different things such as cards, mugs, and even my keychains. It makes me feel relaxed and anxiety-free.

Soon, I started enjoying painting so much that I bought oil paints and started painting cartoon characters on the wall of our backyard.

When my father found out, he acted like he is very furious about it. But later in the day he went out and brought more colors and canvases for me so I can create better paintings and polish this hobby as much as I want to. Then I used to draw on canvases and paint them and hang them around in our house. All the guests used to praise my art and drawings a lot and this gave me a confidence boost to know that I am good at something.

I don’t call myself artist, as painting and drawing don’t come naturally to me. It is rather something that I have perfected over the years as I liked doing it. If I have to study painting and drawing I would have never enjoyed it as I don’t like to put boundaries on my art. I like the fact that I am not doing this for a living and that I am not studying it in college. This means that I don’t have to be perfect at it, but enjoy it as I create paintings that are messy and creative. I believe hobbies should never be tied into a profession or education, but they are something that a person should keep for their own happiness.

I have painted over 100 portraits till now. Painting and drawing is something that makes me feel calm and creative. Now that I have developed this talent of writing, I like painting for myself so it makes me happy. Painting and Drawing are a hobby that have become inseparable from me now. It has become not only my favorite pastime but also one of widely appreciated talents.

I was amazing in the try out and got a place in the varsity football team, became a very good goalkeeper and looked forward to every opportunity to get on the pitch. There is this feeling of satisfaction and satisfaction that I get whenever I am on the playground. My Favorite Hobby 

My favorite thing is the garden. Most of my leisure time is on cooking or playing soccer in the garden. The garden has been a great source of information, education, pleasure and entertainment for me. I had the opportunity to learn many new things about flowers, plants, vegetables, butterflies and even birds from the garden. My parents have a small place for me to pursue and pursue this hobby.

Many family members and friends appreciate my garden of amusement. Over the years, I have been able to develop the necessary skills in the garden, sometimes; and my father helps me take care of the garden. I have a wonderful and amazing collection of magazines and books on vegetables, flowers, fruit trees and the whole garden. It is a wonderful feeling to see plants grow, grow and flourish.

I am not full of knowledge in the garden; sometimes, I get advice and help from a gardener to know what to do. I spend a lot of my money buying compost, seeds, fertilizer, garden tools and garden tools and tools also try to host all the programs on television about the garden, visiting plant and flower shows and fruit and vegetable shows. In this book, the description of nature is so vivid that any passionate reader will get lost in an amazing experience. All my teachers as well as my parents appreciate this hobby.

At the very beginning, I want to say that I literally admire my hobby, and one of my playschool teachers inspired me to fall in love with reading books when I was at my very early age. At that age, I fond of those kinds of books. Later on, I came to know that those books are known as comics. I have read so many comics since my early childhood. Tintin, Phantom, Dennis the Menace, Hada Bhoda, Nonte-Phonte is a few among them. My parents always appreciate my hobby of reading books. For me, reading any book is the way of my utmost relaxation.

After going to high school, I got exclusive access to my school’s students’ library and a different world opened there for me. From then, I borrow books so many kinds of books from my school library and read them thoroughly.

Here, I would like to mention my school librarian sir Mr. Paresh Pathak who helps me to choose the proper book according to my age and reading tendency. From my school library, I have read many works of great authors like Guru Rabindranath Tagore, Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay, Satyajit Ray, and many more.

Recently, I have developed a special interest in magic realism. Very recently, I was reading a work of the great Nobel laureate Gabriel Garcia Marquez. The name of the book is very famous One Hundred Years of Solitude. It is an amazing work that led me to a different fantasy world along with the dark humorous touch of eternal truth.

I’ve also read some works of Franz Kafka. His famous work The Metamorphosis will be very close to my heart always. For these also all credit goes my school librarian sir. He first suggested me to read something unconventional out of the box.

I got the first book of Gabriel Garcia Marquez from him. Moreover, I learned about magic realism from him as well. I believe that no matter what happens with human beings, but books, stories, and realization are eternal. They will never abandon me in my entire life.
