TABLE OF CONTENTS

  • COVER PAGE.........................................................................................................
  • TABLE OF CONTENTS.........................................................................................
  • ASSIGNMENT 1: - THE POEM.............................................................................
  • THE QUESTIONS..................................................................
  • ACADEMIC HONESTY DECLARATION............................................................

Question 1:

1: The poet no longer loves the person he is speaking about, however the poet used to love this person when they were younger. In line 1 the poet says: "I do not love you anymore.” While in line 2 he says: "I used to, when we were young”. This indicates the poet's shift of emotions towards this person over time. The poet adds the detail that he loved this person when they were young, showing maybe it was ignorant or childish kind of love.

1: The use of the word but is used to show the shift in the time of the poem. The shift of the description of the time of the poem takes place in line 7 using the word but. The reader reads the less romanticized version of events of that of the first stanza.

1: In line 9 the speaker says: “The bliss and strain of parenting.” This experience has taught the speaker and their lover patience. It is not because of the patience that one must have with a child but patience for the lover as they spend much time together. This has taught the speaker and their lover that growth is a slow process. While being parents, they have to see how long it takes their child to grow up and they start to understand that growth can take a long time. This has taught them the duality of experiencing love as it can be a rewarding and painful process at the same time. Having a child has allowed them to self-reflect on their own actions.

Question 2:

2: In line 16 the poet uses the phrase “subtle-fingered” suggesting that the lady in question is a delicate person physically creating an image of a petit lady. The poet also uses the word humorous in the same line making the reader believe that the woman is lighthearted and of good nature. This is further emphasized by the poet saying that she is oblivious in line 18. This creates an image of an easy-go-lucky person. Looking closer at the character the poet creates, the reader can tell she is a painter as in line 17 she is said to be stepping away from an easel with a paint brush in her hand.

2: The plenteous horn that the poet refers to in line 24 draws the image of the cornucopia which represented abundance of luxury foods. Within the context of poem, the poet is referring to his beloved as an abundant supply of love, happiness, and support. The poet has found his lover with everything that he could wish for similarly how the cornucopia would fill with whatever one would wish for.

Question 3:

3: The poet creates imagery though the repeated use of the smell of the flowers. In line 4 he refers to the scent of jasmine in the street during spring and later in line 24 he refers to scent of jasmine again coming from his beloved. The use of the fresh flower smell calls upon our sense of smell and creates the impression of a blossoming love or fresh kind of love therefore showing new beginnings within their relationship. The speaker also uses stark colors in line 22 when referring to the appearance of the lady in question. The strong visual adjectives like mulberry- colored jacket and black beret cast vivid imagery in a reader's mind. This coupled with the information in stanza 3 helps create an image of this lady as an artist, a painter.

Question 4:

4: The speaker uses the sound device alliteration serval times throughout the poem. An alliteration occurs when the same letter or sound at the beginning of, adjacent or closely connected words is repeated. The most prominent use of the sound device is in line 4 and 5 where he says: “The scent of jasmine in the streets of spring, the press of starlight through a sky of leaves”. The use of the letter s creates a hissing sound and negative tone while also speeding up the poem to perhaps show how long ago the time was that he is speaking of. The poet also uses the s alliteration again in line 15 by writing: “than youth and starlight and scents of spring.” The poet uses the s alliteration again to bring the reader's attention back to the past that he speaks of in the first stanza where he used the same alliteration.

Question 5:

5: The tone in the first stanza is nostalgic. The poet reminisces over the past, the type of love he once had and the experiences that came with it. The tone of the last stanza is hopeful as he looks forward to new experiences and new kinds of love with his loved one. The change of tone through the poem is a slow one, as it could be an extended metaphor of his change of attitude towards love and the future. Stanzas 2 and 3 transform the tone of the poem though his realizations of love. The last shift towards hopeful from nostalgic is in the last line of stanza 3 where the poet realizes he cannot live without the lady of the poem.

Question 6:

6: The main theme of the poem is love. This is emphasized by the title of the poem: “Testimony.” This poem is a testimony of the poet's love for this lady who could possibly be his wife. The poem acts as a declaration of his love of the woman and the journey they have been though.

What is an assignment cover page, key elements for a comprehensive front page.

  • Institution Details: Begin by prominently featuring the name of your school, college, or institute. This establishes credibility and provides context for your assignment.
  • Personal Information: Include your own name to indicate authorship and ownership of the assignment. This adds a personal touch and facilitates easy identification.
  • Assignment Title: Clearly state the title of your assignment, conveying its purpose and focus. A concise and informative title sets the tone for your work.
  • Course Information: Specify the relevant course title or code to indicate the academic context in which your assignment was completed. This assists in proper categorization and organization.
  • Instructor’s Name: Acknowledge the teacher or professor who will be evaluating your assignment by including their name. This demonstrates respect and professionalism.
  • Due Date: Clearly indicate the deadline or due date for the assignment submission. This ensures timely assessment and helps you stay organized.

What are the basic tips?

  • Font style : It is always in the best interest to use bold, simple, and clear text instead of using fancy text fonts and styles. This helps the reader understand things in a better way.  Moreover, the usage of pictures behind texts must be avoided as it creates poor visibility for the reader when reading the text printed on it.
  • Presentation: Presentation plays an important role in expressing what you need to convey to someone and how you need to communicate it. Presenting the title page in the most effective manner is essential as this leaves an impression on the teacher reading the assignment. It also acts as a decisive tool for the teacher whether or not he/ she interestingly goes through the whole document.
  • Spell Check: Before handing over the assignment, one should take a brief review of all the spelling and also look for any grammatical errors.
  • Avoid plagiarism: A student must always be honest in what he writes. He should avoid copying material or texts from anywhere.
  • Personal detail: One should never forget to mention his/her name. The font size used for writing the name must be bigger so that it makes the name visible to the teacher.

Advantages of an Impressive Assignment Cover Page

  • Showcasing Professionalism: By meticulously designing your cover page, you demonstrate a strong commitment to professionalism. This attention to detail reflects positively on your work ethic and sets you apart as a dedicated student.
  • Creating a Positive Impression: A well-crafted front page sets the tone for your assignment, capturing the attention of your teacher or professor. It establishes a positive first impression, arousing their interest and encouraging them to delve further into your work.
  • Enhancing Visual Appeal: A visually appealing cover page enhances the overall presentation of your assignment. With carefully chosen fonts, colors, and layouts, you create an engaging and aesthetically pleasing introduction that captivates the reader’s attention.
  • Communicating Pertinent Information: It provides a concise summary of essential details, such as the assignment title, your name, and the due date. This ensures clarity and facilitates seamless identification and organization of your work.
  • Reflecting a Professional Attitude: By dedicating time and effort to creating an impressive cover page, you exemplify a professional attitude towards your academic pursuits. This level of dedication and care leaves a lasting impression on your teacher or professor.

Maintain consistency with your assignment’s overall design and avoid using too many colors that may distract from the main message.
  • Opt for Legible Fonts: Use clear and readable fonts to enhance the accessibility and professionalism of your cover page. Avoid overly decorative or complex fonts that may hinder readability. Opt for fonts that align with your assignment’s tone and maintain consistency throughout the document.
  • Incorporate Relevant Graphics: Graphics can enhance the visual appeal of your cover page and reinforce the assignment’s subject matter. Choose images or icons that are directly related to the topic or convey the assignment’s main concept. Ensure that the graphics are high-quality and appropriately sized to maintain clarity.
  • Organize Information Effectively: Arrange the information in a logical and visually appealing manner. Use headings, subheadings, and bullet points to break down content and make it easier to read. Highlight key details such as the assignment title, your name, course information, and submission date.
  • Maintain Simplicity: While it’s important to make it visually appealing, avoid cluttering it with excessive elements. Keep the design clean and uncluttered, allowing the key information to stand out. Remember, simplicity often has a greater impact than complexity.
  • Preview and Proofread: Before finalizing, preview it to ensure that all elements are properly aligned and visually balanced. Proofread the content to eliminate any spelling or grammatical errors. A polished and error-free cover demonstrates your attention to detail and professionalism.
